Eleven-year-old whiz, Oliver Kidd, had no trouble using his genius IQ to skip grades and zoom through the accelerated college program. But after landing a job as the world’s first kid principal back at his old elementary school, Oliver faces sabotage from the jealous vice principal, Mr. Dagger, along with challenges of a kid in charge of the teachers, parents, and students. Good thing his trusty sidekick and school mascot, Chelsea the chicken, is on his side. Principal Kidd scores points with the students with his new rules, until the town health inspector shows up and threatens to shut the doors on Eggshell Elementary. Join in on the giggles and mayhem as Oliver Kidd and his friends since kindergarten try to save Eggshell Elementary. (Just watch your step, you may encounter chicken poop!)
This was a awesome book! I would definitely get this book for my young nieces and nephews. The author is a new author to me and I really enjoyed her work. She told a story that kids could learn from and also enjoy. How would you handle being a kid and the principle of the school you went to? Yes, the principle! Oliver Kidd went to school here and over the summer he went to college and got his degree and was hired as principle. The kids at the school wasn't sure how to react to this, but the vice-principle didn't like it one bit. He was going to get ride of Oliver any way he could and take his place. Oliver had a hard time being a kid and an adult at the same time. He learned how hard it is to be an adult. He learned how to think out of the box to make things right for the school. With help from his two friends and a chicken, he got through the first few days of school and never quit. There are a few good lessons to learn here and what a fun way to do it.
Fun illustrations and a very relatable story to kids. What 5th grader who was recently named principal wouldn't install rules that kids would love: gum chewing, longer recess and running in the hall?! Out of the box thinking and problem solving foil the bullies - perfect!
Connie Colòn has written & illustrated a seriously funny book – Principal Kidd. Eggshell Elementary has eleven year old Oliver Kidd for a principal. When he makes some changes to the rules allowing students to run in the halls, chew bubble gum, and play with chickens during recess, things just don’t work out as he hoped when the health inspector threatens to close the school. On top of that, he’s been told that as principal, he couldn’t associate with the students, his friends, outside school. Dastardly Mr. Dagger, the school’s Vice Principal, offers to help but Oliver isn’t sure what to do. Will he agree to let Mr. Dagger solve his problem or will Ollie find solutions before the deadline? The school’s mascot, Chelsea – a very knowledgeable chicken – senses the dilemma and offers her support. Connie’s illustrations are eye catching and hilarious. This book will have children wanting to read more about Ollie and his friends.
Even for a genius like Oliver Kidd, being an 11-year old principal in your hometown school is a tough job. But Oliver jumps in - actually he pedals in on his bike - making changes and learning lessons along the way. It's not like he's alone in this. His friends are there for him. And Chelsea the Chicken is by his side. And of course he has a vice principal beside him all the way, which would be a good thing, except the VP, Mr. Dagger wants Oliver's job! This is a laugh out loud story that will make kids giggle and say, "Hmmmm..."
As a former elementary school teacher, I would have loved to read this aloud to the kids. It would have brought lots of "what if" and critical thinking discussions and writing opportunities. ....because what if.....
This is the cutest story I had ever read. Brings me back to elementary years. Wish we had Kid Principal in our school. Read the story to my young nieces who just started school, they were laughing and enjoyed the story. Great story for young readers. Highly recommended. Loved the characters. Looking forward to read more of the gang.
What kid doesn't dream of being the principal at his/her school? The humor is appropriate for this age group and the characters are fun as well. I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to others in the series.
Oliver is determined to keep Eggshell Elementary open in this exciting story by Connie T. Colon. With his creative mind and the help of his friends, anything is possible. Children will love the characters!
