For this vampire, it's time to die... a second time.
Valerie understands that to take the fight to those who are attacking in New York, she needs to leave the spotlight. Both for the city, and for herself.
Her enemies are relentless in their attacks to get to her. Since they have relocated to the Chicago City-State area, that is where she must go.
Only one problem, she will be running into the militaristic force called the FDG. She'll need to either work with them, or stay off their radar to take out the CEO's
She hopes.
For those who have been demanding her head, the Angel of Reckoning has their response, and she is coming to deliver it.
JUSTIN SLOAN wrote video games before becoming a full-time author, with credits on such games as Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Walking Dead, and Marvel and mobile games. Now you can find his military science fiction and space superheroes books on Amazon, KU, and Audible.com. He taught Muay Thai kickboxing and Marine Corps Martial Arts, and can play three songs on the bagpipes. Justin holds advanced degrees in international relations/economics and creative writing. Oh, and he acted in movies for a bit - all small roles though.
Valerie succeeded in taking down the CEO's. I was expecting more of a fight but point is she exacted justice. Half the vampires they made decided to join Valerie. She returns them to New York and then begins her travels north towards Canada. Where her next adventure lies. Enjoy!
So, this was listed as book 4 of 4, which I thought was the last book in this series, but apparently that’s not what 4 of 4 means, since the authors notes was talking about the next book, #5 is Born in Flames. It says it’ll be out in June of 2017, so YAY!
The first CEO, Ian, she was out to kill was as crazy as a bedbug so she couldn’t kill him, not with him being insane, it wouldn’t be right! However, she did take care of the other two, Alex and Dmitri. And they in turn beat the crap out of Valerie. There are some serious battles in these books. I loved every one of the Kurtherian Gambit books I’ve read so far.
This book was exciting and bloody and a little sad, too. Valerie and Jackson were a great couple and it sucked that she didn’t even want to say goodbye to him, when she brought the vamps back to Old Manhattan then left with Robin, to look for Robin’s family, and for Valerie to kill herself some pirates.
I do love the players in these books: Valerie, that goes without saying, Jackson, Sandra, Diego, Robin, Wallace, Cammie, Royland and Donnoly. And the crazies are great bad guys, Ian, Alex, Dimitri and Giuseppe. And thankfully Brad turned out to be a good guy after all.
Anyway, no sex and the F-bomb was used 27 times.
As to the narration: Kate Rudd is always awesome! With her voices and her emotions.
Every book I read in this universe leads me to another book within the Kutherian Gambit timeline. I thought I'd had it banked down. Lol. Well since I'm incredibly invested in this series I may as well continue the journey. Thanks Michael and all the other authors who made this series so great.
Wow this series is so good. Great Narration by Kate Rudd. (audible review)
So much action going on all the time. I love Valerie, she is awesome and can kick some butt for sure!
These books are about Vampires, Weres and Human's working together after an apocalypse. There are good guys and bad guys. The stories are easy to read and follow along. Very fast paced books. Exciting and fun.
I especially love that after the end the authors put add notes about the book and the story and other books they are working on. It's nice to hear what is in the authors mind when they are writing so this is a real treat.
As for the narration. Well it is fantastic. Love Kate Rudd. She is a great narrator and really brings the characters alive. The men sound like men, everybody gets their own distinct voice and she read with emotion.
If you have read this series you should! I highly recommend this series and The Kurtherian Gambit Series by Michael Anderle. They are all great books too.
There are so many themes and thrills to this latest episode of the Reclaiming Honor series, that it is difficult to choose a 'best bit' from among the battles between Valerie and her Justice Enforcers and the traders in vampire blood, renegade vampires (Ella), the Forsaken and the Black Plague, their leaders the Three Amigos and the former CEOs to name but a few!
As a result of the danger her enemies are bringing to New York, Valerie decides she must fake her own death in public, so she can take the fight to Chicago and its suburbs while they are unprepared for her stealthy attack.
Who supposedly 'kills' Valerie and what is the occasion celebrated beforehand? Who is Morgana and what fate awaits her in the plaza? Who are the two companions who accompany Valerie on her mission? What do they discover about one of them before they reach Chicago? Who is Robin? Where does Valerie meet her and what is the outcome? Where do Cammie and Royland go on a mission and why?
Justin Sloan's exceptional novel continues the excitement of the previous novels in the Reclaiming Honor series [with Michael Anderle] and its storyline will fascinate any fan of fantasy werewolf/vampire thrillers with its well-developed and extremely well-developed protagonists...Valerie, Cammie and Sandra are definitely kickass queens and are well-supported by heroic hunks Jackson, Royland and Diego...a breathtaking bunch of badasses!
This is Valerie at her best, and someone who is going to do as she promised Michael, too, and with a bit of company, too.
There was so much going on, that I actually feel a bit breathless at the end of it all but, as it's all stuff that looks seriously promising for the future of those who are determined to bring back decency, and honour, to this new America, then I'm happy to be this breathless.
Fortunately, the next book on my list, is the fifth book in this series: Born into Flames, so I'll be happy to start reading it - after I manage to get some sleep, again!
At least, this time, it's only 2.30am here, so I'll get at least an extra hour's sleep tonight! Lol
From what I am reading on all the Kurtherian books, I ask myself if the author isn't going to assemble all the characters in his main work. Let's talk about Valerie, there was a bit of growing up in the book, and lot of talks about the future. Valerie must seek something beyond her justice and kinda have a life because it would be unfair to let her be like this. Sandra and her man are already beyond that point...
I found the book kinda fast paced this time. Meanwhile it's good read as usual!
Valerie wants the CEO heads to roll. and frankly, the same can be said for their followers; you don't change and your life will be much shorter than you imagined. but she'd rather you'd join with her. the infighting in Manhattan is being handled by the friends she left behind. she also wants to take care of the brutal vampire attackers who move in a pack, able to move in the sun with specialized fabric. can't a girl get a break?
oh, Valerie, Valerie. love what you have done. love where you are planning to go. so, let's get going, already.
I wasn't a fan of this one as much as I've liked the others. For one, I liked Valerie and Jackson together. The Robin thing feels forced and unnecessary. For another, I just started to not like Valerie very much in the story. She seemed self centered and self righteous. The story was bouncy and didn't flow as well as others have. The introduction to Chara and TH was LAME. It didn't fit their MO at all and it was presented almost as an afterthought it seemed. Overall I just didn't like it as much as the other books so far.
I came into the Kurtherian series kinda backwards. I did not read Mike's Kurtherian books first, I started with the magic books first. After that I decided to read the full Kurtherian series, what a ride. As time has passed I have begun reading all the sub plots, I'm fully invested in them now! I bought all of this series I'm getting ready to read them all. Justin is a great writer, fast paced, funny, and great with story development. On to the next book.
Justin, you continue to amaze. The character of Valerie is great and deep. The story stays strong, too. It was fun seeing TH and Char tied in. I kept wondering how that would read, but it was great. There is a lot to be said when a group of authors can collaborate as you folks have and not let egos get in the way! Keep writing. Awaiting more good things, and if you all stop writing Kurtherian books, I may just get around to your other works!
I would give y'all 5 stars but that's a near impossibility, but doable lol. I love all the Kurtherian Gambit Series and the offshoots. Valarie, Terry and his crew and the Series about reclaiming or reawaking magic. They're all well written and keep you wondering what is going to happen next. I think Robin is a Great addition to Val. Keep up the Great Work😎.
Wasn't a huge fan of the preceding books but looooove this one!
The book starts slow and proceeds a bit slow until towards the end. Love seeing characters from connecting series. I also like the hints of romance!!!! And future stuff (that covers things not the story and the author notes ahhhhh)! I'm really looking forward to reading the next book and seeing what adventure Valerie has next!
These are incredible stories. They're full of details that paint pictures of the scenes. With a huge cast of characters, I find it surprising that each is written so well that I can easily keep track of who's who. It's a good story. If I had an issue it would probably be the length of the book. It seems too long, at times, but that is probably due to the size of cast and number of stories being told. So maybe it's not a bad thing? 🐝✋🐺
I liked the mission in this book, it is in keeping with Michael's job description for Val. I am going to miss New Manhattan....but Sandra & Diego and the fate of the city could be another spin off. Looking forward to Robin & Val's trip North. & Can we get more Cammie & Royzton?
This was the perfect ending for an excellent story arc. It was great seeing Valerie on her own and coming into her own as a full person. It was awesome seeing old friends make an appearance and now understanding where this story fits into the timeline. I cannot wait until our two lazy weres show up in Old Manhattan, so, Mr Sloan, you had better keep writing!
The action in this book is exciting. Valerie has left behind her comfort base and going into the darker parts of humanity. I am a year behind as to when this book was first published. But anyway, congratulations Justin on your full time writing career. I also liked your short story at the end and plan on picking up some of your other books outside the Kurtherian universe. Good Job
I have enjoyed reading this series most especially because Valerie reminds me of Bethany Anne. I like the way the characters are developing; I will continue to read the Kurtherian Gambit Series. Thanks for giving me a joyful release from spending all day with high school kiddos.
This part of the story felt more like a setting up of the nextvarc than anything else. I know it was the conclusion of the first, but it felt a little flat tbh. It wasn't as funny as the others (always disappointing) and seemed a but rushed. Idk. I'll read the next one, simply because I'm trying to read the whole universe in order.
I really loved this one such an improvement over the other 3 books which where good but not great. Clear improvement and hoping for more awesome action in the next book and more development of Valerie's powers.
Nice work ending the first arc, with enough action to make the story move along but still have decent character building. The cameo by TH and Char was a nice bonus as well. Congrats on moving to full time writing I'm looking forward to seeing more books.
I enjoy books with a strong female character and this book had that in spades. We were introduced to some new and original characters, and we caught up with the characters we have got to know throughout the previous books.
This was definitely the best of the series so far. Better character development. Some added. Plot lines to keep it fleshed out and interesting. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
What did I not like about this fourth book? There were several typos. What did I like? The characters, the story, the settings, the characters. I look forward to seeing what happens with Valerie and Robin.
Valerie is finally making her move for Justice and going after the CEOs . If she is to make America rise from the ashes then she needs to take the trash out. An emotional journey and an enticing read.
It's a story, number four, I'll probably read the next one. If I didn't like them, I would not read them. There are enough other writers to satisfy my reading itch.
Thank you I really enjoyed this number four book can’t wait to get number five. I really like reading the comments at end of each book. So many books so little time.
I have to say, I'm starting to like Valerie as much as I like Bethany-Anne. Both badass vamps. Characters you can love, and some you can hate. Justice is calling, and Valerie will be the judge, jury and executioner
