Et il y a maintenant le regard des Français, qu'il entend séduire avec la même détermination, en bousculant les convenances et en leur déclarant qu'il les aime...

يفكك هذا الكتاب لغز اصغر رئيس في تاريخ فرنسا إيمانويل ماكرون ، ويبين كيف كانت حياته الشخصية من ولادته حتى توصل لكرسي الرئاسة .. إيمانويل الذي كان دائماً مختلفاً ومميزاً عن أقرانه وحتى في علاقاته الغرامية ، إيمانول ليس من الرؤساء الذين صنعوا أنفسهم من رحم الفقر والمعاناة بل على النقيض تماماً .. إيمانويل كان ابن لطبيب وطبيبة ووُلد وفي فمه ملعقة من ذهب كما يقولون :)
ولكن هذا الشيء لم يمنعه من صناعة شخصية مختلفه لنفسه فهو كان قارئاً نهماً اسوةً في جدته التي رافقته في أغلب فترات حياته .
إيمانويل كان مصرفي اقتصادي لدى احدى البنوك الاقتصادية بعد ذلك قفز قفزةً هائلة وأصبح وزيراً للإقتصاد ثم ترشح بعد ذلك لكرسي الرئاسة وانشأ حركة أسماها ( إلى الأمام ) .. وفاز بالانتخابات ليصبح أصغر رئيساً في تاريخ فرنسا .

Je lis très rarement des livres sur (ou écrits par) les personnalités politiques. Toutefois, ce personnage d’Emmanuel Macron est tellement atypique dans le paysage politique et son ascension tellement fulgurante que ma curiosité ne pouvait être que piquée. Ce livre avait particulièrement attiré mon attention car j’avais entendu une interview de son auteure sur LCI, entretien au cours duquel il avait été précisé que ce livre n’était nullement partisan. Et je confirme que ce livre n’est pas un ouvrage de propagande en faveur du candidat d’En marche.

C’est un livre plutôt neutre qui retrace avec précision le parcours de ce jeune premier, de son enfance jusqu’à nos jours. On découvre une personnalité complexe, un homme très intelligent et ambitieux. Ce livre propose un profil psychologique assez détaillé. On découvre son parcours scolaire dans le nord de la France, puis son ascension dans les coulisses d’un monde parisien élitiste où les relations et les dîners mondains sont incontournables pour gravir les échelons et se faire un nom.

Il était aussi très intéressant d’en apprendre plus sur l’entourage familial du jeune Macron, la façon dont ses parents gèrent sa nouvelle notoriété, la place qu’a occupée la fameuse « Manette », la grand-mère dont on entend souvent parler dans les médias. Sans parler du rôle de Brigitte Macron. D’Amiens à Paris, en passant par le Touquet, l’auteure retrace cette histoire d’amour fusionnelle et singulière qui suscite tant l’intérêt de la presse people.

En refermant ce livre, on a une meilleure appréciation du personnage Macron, une meilleure compréhension de son parcours et de sa manière de penser et d’agir. C’est très instructif.

Je tiens à souligner que de nombreux points de vue sont proposés dans cet ouvrage, des remarques, des voix, des perspectives qui ne mettent pas toujours Emmanuel Macron dans une lumière avantageuse. Il est présenté avec ses atouts et ses défauts, un livre somme toute honnête intellectuellement et non biaisé qui permet de se forger une opinion sur la personne quel que soit son bord politique.

J’attendais beaucoup de Emmanuel Macron : un jeune homme si parfait, espérant y trouver une plongée fouillée dans les années de formation du futur président — ses expériences d’enfant précoce, ses relations scolaires, les marqueurs cognitifs d’un développement hors norme. Au lieu de cela, j’ai lu ce qui aurait pu tenir en une série d’articles de presse.

Le style est journalistique au sens faible du terme : linéaire, sans souffle, ni enquête ni vraie dramaturgie. Le propos, à défaut d’être franchement hagiographique, reste complaisant. Emmanuel Macron est ici le "wunderkind" poli et brillant qu’on nous sert déjà partout. Certes, on apprend qu’il lit dès cinq ans, qu’il est soutenu par une famille aimante et culturellement stimulante (notamment sa grand-mère Manette), et que son parcours scolaire fut balisé d’encouragements. Mais que sait-on, à la fin, de ses camarades de classe ? Des professeurs qui l’ont vu grandir ? Du regard de ses pairs, dans ses quinze premières années ? Pratiquement rien. Ces voix sont absentes.

Reste l’intérêt des témoignages directs : ses parents, Brigitte Macron, Emmanuel lui-même, et quelques mentors. Certaines anecdotes sont savoureuses, parfois même éclairantes. Mais la matière brute reste mince. Anne Fulda donne l’impression d’avoir obtenu des entretiens rares sans jamais les exploiter avec la profondeur ou la distance attendues d’un travail biographique ambitieux.

En somme : un livre qui caresse son sujet, sans jamais vraiment le toucher.

I had high hopes for Emmanuel Macron: Un jeune homme si parfait, expecting a deep dive into the formative years of France’s future president — his childhood as a gifted student, his social environment, the early cognitive traits of exceptional development. Instead, what I got felt like a long magazine feature, stretched thin across chapters.

The style is journalistic in the most superficial sense: linear, flat, devoid of narrative depth or investigative boldness. The tone, while not overtly hagiographic, remains overly indulgent. Macron appears here as the well-mannered wunderkind we’ve already met a hundred times in the press. Yes, we learn he was reading by the age of five, raised in a culturally stimulating household (his grandmother Manette playing a key role), and supported through an elite educational path. But what of his classmates? His teachers? The peers who witnessed his early development? Their voices are largely absent.

There is some merit in the direct testimonies — from his parents, Brigitte Macron, Macron himself, and a handful of mentors. A few anecdotes are even delightful. But overall, the raw material feels underused, and the author never quite digs deep enough.

In short: a book that strokes its subject without ever truly grasping him.

A year ago, most of the French had no idea who he was.

Today, he is the new president of France. The youngest, at 39, to have ever been elected to that office, and the youngest head of state of France since Napoleon.

This book does not tell the story of how he got there from a political, strategic basis. Nor does it explain the vast reservoir of disenchantment the French feel towards their economic reality -- girded tightly to the European Union led by an austerity obsessed Germany under Angela Merkel, unemployment chronically hovering around 9 - 10% (with youth unemployment at 25%, and which masks the unemployment of non-white French, living in the outer suburbs of the large cities) -- and the corruption of their governing elite.

Instead the author, Anne Fulda, documents from a series of interviews where Macron came from, what formed him, and hopefully, from these fragments of stories are we able to learn more about this quite spectacular man.

He was born into a family of upper middle class provincial professionals. His father a doctor, his mother also in the medical field, and from the earliest age was treated as a "gift from God" by his non-religious parents (he was born a year after the miscarriage of their first child, on December 22nd; Emmanuel in Hebrew is translated as "Gift from God"). But he was especially doted on by his grandmother, "Manette", who lived down the street from the Macrons in Amiens. She was a former school mistress of one of the local schools, and treated young "Manu" as a precocious intellectually curious child -- feeding him books, discussing French literature, teaching him history and poetry. It is this genesis story of him being taken in by those older than him, of him becoming the "adopted son" or "younger brother" from a long list of powerful men and influential women (such as his grandmother) that we learn about Emmanuel Macron's character. He is at once described as intellectual and intelligent, but also with a profound, deep sense of empathy. Many of those interviewed describe the experience of talking with him, and feeling absorbed in his deep blue eyes as he soaks in their conversation, taking in every word, every syllable, as if you are the only person that matters at that moment.

As he progresses from childhood into his adolescence, he yearns to become a writer, even a playwright perhaps. In his high school he discovers his talent for writing and experiments with theatre, and falls in love with his drama teacher, a woman 24 years his senior who is married with three children (Emmanuel's age). They keep their affair discrete at first, but once his parents inadvertently discover the truth, it his grandmother "Manette" who finally gives her blessing to the pair. But it isn't immediate that the two of them become a public couple. First, Emmanuel is shipped off to Paris -- his father hoping that the distance will cool things off between him and Brigitte as he studies for his final year of studies before taking the all important entrance exams for university.

He is accepted to university, and is not distracted by girls or the typical post-adolescent shenanigans of his peers since he has Brigitte back home. Instead he throws himself into his school work, and develops close mentoring relationships with influential professors who push his boundaries of thought and challenge his ideas. He is universally seen, again the repeated refrain, as both highly intelligent and deeply empathetic. But there begins the soft questioning of some as to whether the empathy is genuine, can someone really be "so perfect"? (hence the title of the book)

His career post-university continues the pattern of focusing on nurturing relationships with those in power, charming everyone whom he meets -- treating even the common secretaries and delivery people with respect, giving people the same treatment whether they are billionaires or making the minimum wage. When someone has a different opinion from him, he wants to engage them, find out why they feel that way, and debate them on the merits or demerits of the idea. He is competent, sometimes frustratingly so, and cautious in defining what he believes -- ultimately he are led to believe that what guides him is to be liked, even loved, by others. Particularly his elders. Those patricians of the system, the elites in the media, business, culture, and government. To be universally loved.

It is easy to like the guy, but is this narcissism (let's face it -- in the digital age, anyone younger than 50 has a certain amount of it, and if you actually think you can be president of a major country, whether you are Obama or Macron, you have to have a considerable amount of narcissism) all that there is? Or is the Macron agenda, such that is, of valuing the individual, of taking the initiative, helping the disadvantaged and economic losers, too American for the French society?

We shall soon find out.

My only major quibble with the book, which felt like it was written quickly over the course of a long-weekend from dozens of interviews with people from his past and present, was that it left me wanting to understand more about his politics and his vision for the future. Maybe at some point a more comprehensive book that includes both his personal and political side will appear in the near future, but in the interim, this was a good first start.

A biography of Emmanuel Macron seems a little premature, unless it is set in the context of how he managed to overturn the political apple-cart by founding a new party, En Marche! and leading it to victory with an absolute majority in the National Assembly, in little more than a year.

Anne Fulda’s at times gushing journalese froths anecdote and subjective comment with a sprinkle of gossip into a short biography, the solid content of which could be contained in a colour supplement feature. This is a work with no index, and sources limited to foot notes which generally amount to “Entretien avec l’auteur” plus date of interview. The chapters themed according to family relationships, education, Macron’s much-discussed charm, his courting of useful contacts, etcetera, provide a somewhat fragmented, disjointed account of events, with frequent repetition, suggesting a hasty production of the book without much editing, perhaps with the aim of hitting the bookshops before competitors.

Anne Fulda devotes most space to providing explanations for Macron’s remarkable confidence and self-belief. As a child, he clearly had an unusual level of maturity which made him responsive to adults keen to foster his evident intelligence. It was not just a case of father teaching him Greek and philosophy at home, in a house filled with books, for Macron was very close to his formidable grandmother, who set great store by learning, perhaps because of her own uneducated parents. Not only was she an exacting teacher, setting him high standards from an early age, but she clearly adored him to the extent of sidelining his own mother, believing he had “special talents”.

The pattern of seeking the company of admiring older people who could advance his progress continued, first in Macron’s liaison with Brigitte Trogneux, the drama teacher twenty-four years his senior who became his constant companion and eventually his wife, and later with his intense but often brief dealings with a succession of “movers and shakers" – philosophers, bankers and financiers, media people, even image makers like Mimi Marchand, “la Mata Hari des paparazzi" with her photo agency “Bestimage” to promote news of “des beautiful people” – thus is the French language betrayed. This incongruous mixture would of course enable Macron to achieve the goal of becoming president, which he appears to have considered as a realistic aim from an early age.

The author is less effective at dealing with “the tough stuff”: she mentions Macron’s employment by the philosopher Ricœur, but makes no serious attempts to analyse either the main aspects of his mentor’s political thought, or the extent to which Macron has been influenced by this or sought to put it into practice. Similarly, there is an irritating tendency to lapse into name-dropping indigestible lists of the influential people with whom Macron has “networked”. These are leavened with distracting asides and snippets of gossip. Not being French, in order to make sense of all this, I felt the need to look some of them up on line, to gain basic information which should have been included in the book.
I was struck by the discordant shift from what seemed like fulsome, largely unquestioning adulation in earlier chapters, to quite a cynical portrayal of an arch-manipulator who “seduces” people for what he can get out of them. He tells audiences that he loves them, but in fact he is loving himself through them. Like a rock star or a tele-evangelist, he explicitly “speaks of love” in political rallies, because he is tapping “the emotional, irrational aspect which people need”.
The author describes at the end how his expression has changed from what she calls a kind of false, puerile candour into a harder, steely gaze revealing an unexpected determination, sometimes lit from within by “une lueur d’exaltation”. She dubs him a political “ovni” (UFO), “un étrange héros des temps modernes” who has consistently shown an obsession with not being “boxed in”. He has made himself into a “communication tool” which seems to be in perpetual evolution: apart from a consistent determination to get what he wants, in continually changing his identity from would-be actor/writer, to philosopher to banker to minister to President, he appears “toujours en quête, par insatisfaction ou crainte d’être enchaîné, de ne plus pouvoir vivre la vie qu’il a rêvée". Is this an accurate assessment of what lies beneath the carefully constructed façade? Does it mean that, assuming he is re-elected, Macron may be not be “in for the long haul” as president because he will switch his mighty ambition to something else?

في عمر ال١٥ تعرف ماكرون الي مدرسته في قسم المسرح ، في العام ١٦ كُشفت علاقتهما من طرف والديه ، اعترضت العائلة وأيدت الجدة الزواج ، بعدها انفصلت المدرسة بريجيت عن زوجها واطفالها الثلاثة وتزوجت تلميذها ايمانويل او كما كان يُدعي إختصاراً مانو 😁

تسرد الكاتبة تفاصيل صناعة عقلية رئيس فرنسا الحالي منذ صغره ، تتبعه من مدرسته وتسجل حديث والده ووالدته عنه وأسفهمها علي تنحيتهما من جانب الإعلام ومن جانب ابنهم في رصد مدي اهتمامهم به.
ترصد الكاتبة علاقته بجدته التي ربط نفسه بها ومجدها في خطاباته وضخم وجودها حتي فاقت والديه.
ترصد دخول ايمانويل في علاقة غرامية مع مدرسته وتشرح قصة حبهمها الغير المعتاد والزواج الغريب والوفاء الرهيب من جانب ماكرون مما جعلهما مادة صحفية ممتازة فعلت دورها في انتشاره الاعلامي قبيل الترشح للرئاسة.

تصول وتجول وسط تحركاته الجامعية وعمله في الوظيفة العامة الفرنسية مفتشاً ثم استقالته وانضمامه لبنك روتشيلد ثم انخراطه كمساعد في قصر الاليزيه ثم وزيرا للاقتصاد ثم ترشحه للرئاسة.

كتاب رائع يعطي مضمون جيد عن تكوين عقلية ماكرون وكيفية تفكيره لا أحد يستطيع إختصاره او تلخيصه في جمل محددة يجب قرائته لكل مهتم بالسياسة أو محب لسير الشخصيات المهمة.

تحدثت الكاتبة مع كل من كان حول ماكرون ، ولكن الأحاديث كانت كأنها منتقاه تخدم وجهة نظر مسبقة للكاتبة.

أعجبني جداً بدايتها بقصة مشابهة لزواج بين سياسي وأخري أكبر منه بكثير في أوائل القرن العشرين في فرنسا ، انتهت القصة بإدانة مجتمعية وقضائية للزوج والزوجة وانتهت بانتحار الزوجة ، والمقارنة بين مدى تغير المجتمع الفرنسي خلال هذه الفترة ليتحول الأمر إلي دعم للرئيس ورؤيته شاباً مغايراً للسياسيين وحالماً ورومانسياً 🧐

الكتاب جيد لنا كعرب و يكشف لنا عدة أمور، أهمها أن بالرغم أن الوصول لرئاسة فرنسا ليس بالأمر الهين ويحتاج لقدرات كبيرة و مناورات سياسية عدة وذكاء اجتماعي شديد في مجتمع متنوع إلا أن المجتهد في هذا المجتمع يجد لنفسه تقديراً وموضع قدم تدفعه للأمام عكس بلادنا العربية.
كما يكشف لنا الكتاب تحركات ماكرون الأخيرة في لبنان و ذهابة إلي منزل الفنانة فيروز و استخدام الصور وعالم السوشيال ميديا كوسيلة لكسب التعاطف في مجتمع عربي شرق أوسطي عاطفي تتغير اتجاهاته وتوجهاته من مجرد صورة، ماكرون استخدم وسامته و ذكائه وحرصه علي اللطف مع ممن يكبرونه سناً علي رسم صورة عاطفية ملائكية تضمن لبلاده موضع اقتصادي و سياسي في لبنان، فماكرون العاطفي في لبنان هو متعجرف و نزق الطباع أمام رئيس افريقي، وهو الغير مبالي مما حدث من فيضانات في السودان لأنها لا تقع تحت سطوة فرنسا الكولونيالية.

ماكرون مذ صغره كان مراوغاً ففي الوقت الذي صرح فيه أنه لا يمكن أن يبدي اعتراضاً علي حرية الصحافة بخصوص ما حدث مؤخراً من صحيفة شارلي أيبدو كان يوبخ صحفياً في فيديو شهير له أنه أذاع خبر جمعه مع أحد أفراد حزب الله.
ماكرون كونيالي يتعامل مع مظاهر الإسلام كالحجاب داخل فرنسا كأحد مظاهر العداء لعلمانية فرنسا، فقد صرحت زوجته العجوز بيريجيت انها عارضت بشدة محاولات منع الحجاب في المدارس واعتبرت ذلك تسلطاً ذكورياً ضد حرية المرأة فيما تريد أن ترتديه لكنها وجدت ماكرون معارضاً بشدة لطرحها و مؤيداً بشدة لحصر الحجاب في المجال الفرنسي العام.

بالنسبة للمهتمين بفهم فكر الرئيس الفرنسي الحالي إيمانويل ماكرون هناك ثلاثة كتب باللغة العربية: هذا الكتاب، وهو سيرة غيرية، بمعنى أن مؤلفته صحفية قابلت ماكرون، وقابلت أيضاً مجموعة من الأشخاص الآخرين مثل زوجته وأبويه وأصدقائه. وهذا الكتاب من ترجمة دار الساقي.

هناك كتابان آخران من إصدار شركة المطبوعات للتوزيع والنشر. الأول هو "ثورة"، وهو بقلم ماكرون نفسه، وقد ألفه قبل أن يصبح رئيساً، اي عندما كان مرشحا. الثاني بعنوان "ماكرون تحت الاستجواب" وهو كتاب صغير (120 صفحة) يجيب فيه ماكرون على الأسئلة الأكثر طرحاً من الصحافة والناس، وقد صدر أيضاً قبل توليه الرئاسة.

الكتاب الأول (كتاب دار الساقي) متاح للتحميل المجاني وهو موجود حتى على غوغل بوكس ويبدو أن الناشر سمح بنشره.

Pretty good and a fast read, and I'm not even that great at French. I'm not sure how much insight into him it ultimately provides--Revolution Française by Sophie Pedder is a little better at that--but it's got some good thoughts and Fulda has managed to interview some of the people in his milieu, which a plus. Worth reading if you can read French!

كتاب جميل وممتع . يعرفك على شخصية مهمة كرئيس لفرنسا.
لم اكن أعرف عنه الا أنه الرئيس الشاب الذي تزوج مدرسته.
في الكتاب عرفت تفاصيل أكثر قصته جميله ومشجعة للشباب الطموحين. فمهما كان التنافس محموما ومستوى التعليم عالي كحال فرنسا الا أن الشخص الطموح يجد فرصته.

Na het lezen van Anne Fulda’s biografie vind ik Emmanuel Macron een sympathieke noch onsympathieke überambitieuze kameleon. Fulda belicht zijn vele gezichten op vlotte wijze:

‘Iemand die als geen ander zachtmoedig weet te verleiden en die tegelijk wat snoeverig zijn eigen rol durft op te eisen. Hij verstoort grondig en totaal de gevestigde politieke orde, is tegelijk een supergediplomeerde technocraat, en dan ook nog halvelings een rockvedette.’

Wat ik met Macron gemeen heb: een obsessie met vrijheid en onafhankelijkheid: die mogen niet in het gedrang komen. En we houden allebei van ons publiek.

I read it in Swedish and I liked it because I didn’t know so much about Macron before - except about his marriage... I also liked because it’s written in a very different style from what I’m used to. That was refreshing.
