Nobody tells you how much your life will change right before you turn 30. They only tell you about the obvious things that you can Google, and not the heartbreak, addiction or even jail time that comes with it. Welcome to Broken Condoms and Promises, where best friends Siya, Eshari and Cassidy are all about to have their worlds turned upside down one year shy of their dirty thirties.
Meet Siya At 29, Siya was used to living lavish and only having to worry about herself. She’s content with being a homeowner with no kids and living the single life. She was used to keeping to herself, because she was much more in love with her independence than the idea of actually loving another human being. When things in her professional life turn from sugar to…well, you know, she’s forced to rely on what she knows to keep her bills paid. In turn, she gives a whole new meaning to the term, promiscuous girl. In the midst of that, she reconnects with her ex, Dacarri Blackmon. He’s back with a mission to set her heart on fire and show her what a real emotional connection feels like the second time around. If he plays his cards right, he may be able to win her back if her new “profession” doesn’t get in the way.
Meet Eshari Coming up, it wasn’t hard for Eshari to attract a man to take care of her so she wouldn’t have to lift a finger. To her friends, she has the perfect life. She’s always traveling and going on shopping sprees, but at what cost? Her husband Hassan is a wealthy businessman of Persian and African-American descent. After three years of marriage, she finds herself wanting the one thing his money can’t buy her; a baby. While desperate to conceive after a miscarriage, she learns of her husband’s infidelity. Blinded by her desires to relish in the joys of motherhood, she decides to take matters into her own hands by rewriting her fate. While in the thick of it with Hassan, will she learn that true love doesn’t cost a thing?
Meet Cassidy Cassidy learned a long time ago that men were replaceable. Miss one, wait another 15 minutes and another will show up. She’s spent the last few years of her twenties never letting her feet hit the ground before she’s swept up into the arms of one new beau after the next. While her ex, Nasir, is serving time for a drug wrap, she finally decides to get her life together and settle down. She puts away her days of being just another trophy girlfriend to another street king. That’s when she meets a baller with a legitimate bank roll, Jonathan Welch, a prestigious figure on the Hill in Washington D.C. She quickly falls knee-deep in love with his charm and good looks, until he starts to send her on an emotional roller coaster with too many broken promises. Feeling played and hell bent on revenge, she accepts the help of an old flame to permanently extinguish a new one.
This spicy tale follows these three as their relationships are tested and all rules are broken. With the odds stacked up against them, will this small circle of friends make it through the storm or will their own personal drama consume them? After all, pressure creates diamonds.
I wasn't a fan of the title, but the book was great. The issues these women dealt with were real issues a lot of women deal with every day. These women sacrificed a lot and had to deal with a lot of backstabbing. I usually try to guess where a story is guessing, but this book through me for a loop. Awesome read.
I'm really sitting here stuck on stupid after this. First I will say I loved the friendship between Siya, Eshari and Cassidy. I just wished they'd be more open without thinking the others would be judgemental when it came to what they were dealing with in their lives. Siya was a lost soul that went about things the wrong way. Although the past with Dacarri actually played a role in how she approached situations, she should've looked at the bigger picture and not who could contribute to the lifestyle she was trying to uphold. She should've found out more about Kendrick or better yet just left his offer on the table and walked away. Poor Eshari. I truly believe she'll succeed in breaking Hassan. Jamie was suspect from the beginning when he showed up asking questions. I do believe Samir should've told Eshari the obvious but I can't wait to see how that whirlwind plays out. I'm disappointed in Cassidy! She took her lying too far, especially considering who she called for help. Yes Jonathan was wrong but Cassidy's need for revenge only complicated things not only for herself but a person who was trying to get back on their feet. She was selfish and should've listened to her friends for once. There were definitely a lot of broken condoms and promises literally. #KNL
These three women Siya, Cassidy, and Eshari seem to have the worst luck dealing with the type of men that were in their lives. Siya was steal scorned behind what her ex had done to her along with being unemployed and started making some choices that would affect her later on. Cassidy had sworn off men until she met Johnathan and he swept her off her feet. Well that was until he decided to reveal a secret he was hiding. Eshari thought her marriage was solid. However her husband movements and actions started to change which caused her to stumble across his lies and him committing the ultimate betrayal.
This book was full of surprises. These 3 young ladies really had some serious life issues. Eshari really got the surprise of her life with her husband Hassan. Finding out what Hassan was really up to left me with my mouth hanging open. Wow! Poor Siya really hit rock bottom when she lost her job. I cant believe how things turned out for her at the end. Poor Cassidy backtracked when she said that she never would. So many secrets, lies and deceit. On to part 2. #KNL
SO FULL OF DRAMA. HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. THESE LADIES HAD ALOT GOING ON BEFORE TURNING 30. ESHARI WORLD GETS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN WHEN SHE FINDS OUT WHAT HER HUSBAND HASSAN IS REALLY UP TOO. SIYA LOST HER JOB AND WAS JUST TRYING TO MAKE SOME FAST MONEY. CASSIDY GOT CAUGHT UP WITH JONATHAN AND NOW SHE REGRETS HER DECISION TO GET HIM BACK. CANT WAIT TO SEE THE OUTCOME...#KNL
First read by this author and I was not disappointed at all. All three of friend had they own set of drama. This book took me on a ride and had some twist I did not see coming. Cassidy let the fact that she was mad a stupid decision. Siya took the easy easy way out. Eshari I felt bad for her. I'm definitely reading part 2 cause that ending is something else. #KNL
I loved this book. It was definitely different which was perfect. Each character had their own issues. Siya should have came clean to her friends about losing her job and also about her "alternate" job. Eshari had a whole world of problems with her husband. I'm glad she found out about him, but I feel sorry for her situation now. And Cassidy man she was just in too much. I can't wait for part 2.
This book has me biting my nails like crazy. So much drama it's crazy. I'm hoping Siyah didn't do anything stupid. I hope things work out for Chari and lord only knows what happened with Cassidy. Well on to book 2
Sheesh all this drama had me on the edge of my seat. From E's marriage problems to Cassidy going coocoo for cocoa puffs. Then Siya going through her midlife crisis. I just hope she didn't die. I can't wait to read pt2. #KNL
My first read by this author and it was nothing short of juicy. These characters went through so many changes and emotions as the pages turned. I can't wait to dive into the next piece. #KNL
Man these ladies are going through it but I'm really enjoying this story. I can't wait to see how this series unfolds in book 2. This is my first book I have read my Ms. hall and I'm really enjoying your style of writing and the development of the characters. 😉
This book was so good! I couldn’t put it down. Hassan I’m still shaking my head at you sir! Siya what a tangled web you have woven girl! Eshari, you too!!! Kendrick creeps me out. I can’t wait to read part 2. This book is cray!
This book was different. It wasn't bad but I stopped and restarted it a few times. While I was reading it I couldn't get into it but then I'd see a review or online post about it and want to see if it lived up to the hype. It did not, for me. None of the male characters were likable. The female characters were not that interesting either. It's hard for me to get into a book when just about everything is all bad. No light at the end of the tunnel. It's not a bad book, a lot of drama that'll def keep you shaking your head at the shenanigans lol.
This was a whirlwind story. It had everything I needed from love, scandal, drama and straight hoeishness(yes I made this word up). What wasn't to love about this story. The ladies friendship was out of this world. For them to become friends the way they did and stick to it was a beautiful thing.
Three best friends going through the trials and tribulations of dating and marriage! Pregnancies, adultery, and attempted suicide! Can each woman let go and just live life on their own terns with our pressure from men?
I need part 2 ASAP! I have to know what happens to these 3 ladies. They all started out with the best intentions and life just kept throwing curve balls.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved Siya and Eshari. It was crazy the things they went through. I can't wait to read Part 2 to find out what happens. I hope someone saves Siya.
Part 2 I loved how it was friends doing real life things that remind me of my girl's. Esharp I think her name was I 've been there ,a range of women in age would love this book ,that's why I'm waiting on part 2 !!
I love this book can't wait for part 2 I could see me and some of my friends in here a range of women in age would love reading this I've been where ESHARP I think was her name was at . I'm glad they was there for each other .
I enjoyed reading this book. It has a good storyline and was well written and detailed. Three friends that had their own issues of life to deal with, taking measures to make things better with all different unexpected consequences. Eshari, I liked her character in that even under the circumstances she still showed strength and dealt with her situation accordingly. My heart went out to her. Siya.... Firstly, without giving away the storyline, could have done more job wise before resorting to what she did...then the outcome...disappointing! To me she didn't show enough strength within herself. And Cassidy, just smh. Good read overall, waiting part two....hope to see growth in these women and hope things work out for the best.
I enjoyed this read about three friends, Siya, Eshair, and Cassidy embarking on their thirtieth year of life. Each has complicated issues with their love lives. The book addresses a number of real-life, relatable issues. Infidelity, undercover homosexuality, infertility, depression, promiscuity and much more. There was never a dull moment with this story.
I was not expecting Hassan to be gay, Kendrick and Daccari to be related.....or Siya to be weak enough to kill herself .... I am anxiously awaiting part 2 !
