Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.

Sweet book about doing something nice for a friend -- in this case, Buzz finds Fly Guy's family by posting little signs near garbage and spills and other stinky sticky places. Had the potential to turn into a kids' version of Darren Aronofsky's mother! -- thousands of unexpected houseguests! -- but the flies eventually leave and there's a happy ending.
In this one, we meet Fly Guy’s extended fly family. It’s low-key gross as they have a party over a pile of garbage, which means of course the kids loved it.
If you’re struggling to find a book that allows your early reader to practice the letter Z, go no further! Buzz is a boy with a pet fly who is missing his family, so he decides to put out signs inviting all of Fly Guy’s family to a secret party at Buzz’s house. Buzz is surprised by just how big Fly Guy’s family is, but the party is a great success. Fly Guy is beyond excited to see all of his family again and to dine on the garbage that Buzz ordered to be put on the lawn for them all. This is a story that certainly uses humor to draw in the beginning reader. Each page has nice short sentences for the child to read through and plenty of illustrations that they can devour as they read this silly story. It is broken up into three short chapters to allow for natural stopping points as the story progresses so the child doesn’t need to feel bad if they can’t read it through to the end in one sitting. The author has fun changing words to include ‘z’ in them when Fly Guy is speaking, such as “Muzzer” instead of “Mother,” which introduces the early reader to the fun they can have with language and gives them practice with the elusive letter Z.
Fly Guy’s Big Family is a fun take on what a family reunion would be like for a fly. The short story starts with Buzz, a young boy, noticing that his friend Fly Guy misses his family and deciding to find as many members of Fly Guy’s family as he can. Posting signs at garbage sites in the neighborhood, Buzz attracts Fly Guy’s cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, and parents to the surprise party. Fly Guy is overjoyed at the reunion and the thousands of flies enjoy a garbage feast provided by Buzz. The pictures occupy the majority of each page and are full of silly but clever details. The font is large and easy to read and the vocabulary is appropriate for an early reader ready to tackle a chapter book. There is a subtle humor in the book that children of this age will be able to pick up on and that adults reading with a child will enjoy.
Fly Guy's Big Family is part of a larger series of Fly Guy's books and tells the story of how Fly Guy returns home to visit his family. When not paying attention Fly Guy's friend Max invites Fly's family over for a surprise family reunion. Max hopes Fly Guy will be surprised and happy to see all of his family. Another fun story in the Fly Guy series that injects humor and great storytelling into easy to read books.
I chose this book for its humor, lighthearted story and colorful art that is sure to engage young readers looking for something fun to read that isn't too challenging.
This was my 4 year old's first introduction to Fly Guy. She chose it at the book fair having been entranced by the sparkle swirls on the front cover. Well played, Scholastic.
She loved the humor of how Fly Guy is conveniently able to pronounce Buzz's name, and how he pronounces all of his family member's titles. It does have a great level of humor for younger readers.
I will confess the next day at a picnic though, a few flies descended and I had flashbacks to this text. I don't see how Buzz's parents could have dealt with the family reunion being indoors, even temporarily!
This might be my favorite Fly Guy book - it's so sweet! Buzz decides to throw a party for Fly Guy so he can see his family again (complete with teeny signs as invitations!) and he gets the whole Fly Family! It was really cute overall - the sheer number of flies, Buzz's plan to feed them, Fly Guy's baby picture! Lots of cute little gags throughout.
Eight-year-old godson liked it because he likes Fly Guy and he liked when he saw all of his cousins, parents, and siblings. He liked when he saw all of those flies swarm in the house and when they went outside to party in the garbage.
What he doesn't like is when the trash truck dumped all that trash onto the lawn.
The Fly Guy series will always be a go to for me and my son! This series is geared to children who are just beginning to read, the shorter sentence structure makes it easier for children to comprehend and analyze accordingly. Fly Guy books always tell such a great story. And we even enjoy the “fly talk” used when writing this story🪰
Fun, sweet story of Fly Guy getting a surprise party with his whole family. I liked the part when he hugs all the flies. It is silly but sweet and kids will love it. I will definitely buy it. Bravo Buzzzzz! Highly recommended for Grades K-2.
Fly Guy loves living with Buzz but he misses his family. Can Buzz reunite them? I just love the heart of this series and this one was no different. very relatable in terms of missing someone. preschool and up
My 7 year old loves these. This series is way below her reading level, but they are fun little reads right before bed. She finds them pretty hilarious, so we may be getting some for Christmas :)
Cute story about Buzz throwing a party for his pet fly. He invites family only, so....cuzzz and muzzer and fazzer and all his other relatives show up. Then they party in the garbage.
Who doesn't like Fly Guy? Well he has a huge family, and I am not so sure dumping a truck load of garbage in the front yard solves a whole lot of problems. . .
