This book was like a train wreck I couldn't look away from. First, what kind of gangsta name is THADDEUS?? Is he the head of the Hipster mafia?? Also, this heroine was WAY too easily distracted by shiny objects. The hero gives her an engagement ring made from blood diamonds, and she is all "OMG...they are blood diamonds?? Oh but they are sparkly, so I will just not think about where they come from" Oy vey...and just to add an extra cherry on the top of the cheesy, there was a recipe for STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE STRUDLE MUFFINS at the end of the book...because, why not?? *lol*
There were parts I really liked- the OTT alpha, devoted and getting the girl at all cost. However, other parts had me shaking my head in confusion. Especially one occasion that had me questioning is alpha-ness...
Nearly the first half was a stretch of 10 days, with very minimal contact. Certain things came up and you thought it was going to be a story plot and then nothing came of it..... Then it went at warp speed and it was all wrapped up on the last page. No epilogue. Nothing.
-no cheating -no ow/om drama -no pushing away -violence (not of a sexual nature) -no epilogue
This is one of my quickest DNF reads ever, and I'm kinda bummed out. I liked the blurb but I just couldn't handle the h's incessant and blabbering inner dialogue....
This started out pretty good. I liked how the hero courted the heroine based off his Grandfather's teachings. Thaddeus is a gangster who goes after what he wants and he wants Grace.
I like that he is this big tough guy who everyone is scared of. This is one of my favorite types of H's but they still need to treat their heroines good, which he did. But there were times his actions or words didn't back up what a scary H would say or do. He lost a bit of his alphaness in certain scenes.
I loved the way Grace pretty much dismisses him in the beginning. She didn't believe he was as scary as her friend said. That is what really brought her to Thaddeus's attention but then I felt she didn't always keep that up either. Some parts she was stuttering and afraid, other parts she got angry and yelled. I would have preferred for her to stay strong.
By the end of the book, I ended up being more intrigued by Maximillian. He's another scary Alpha but the way he didn't bow down to Thaddeus is what made the H seem too weak at times. But again, that could mean for a potentially great read if Max gets his own book. If he stays scary...
I'm all for insta-love but this one made no sense. The h is at a restaurant when a guy walks up behind her, she makes a stupid comment and the guy leaves. From that interaction, the guy sends her expensive gifts and even terrorizes her as she walks down the street. This airhead should be terrified but she really likes the gifts and is so excited when she has his number. Instead of telling him off for his odd behavior she suddenly becomes tongue-tied. I really did not understand what the H liked about the h bc he just appears randomly and never speaks to the h in the beginning. Plus, she refers to her secretary as "dude" which bugged the hell out of me. Really poor characters in this book.
A suspenseful and thrilling romance that gives obsession a whole new meaning!
Gangster is chock-full of danger, drama, and fervent passion. The vicious circle of questions run through the reader's mind, as to what could happen next. High energy and explosive passion sparks intrigue and indulgence that never ends.
The second I started this book, I knew I was going to be sucked in. And boy was I right! Gangster makes you question your own morals, rooting for a ruthless and corrupted man, and the woman he has his sights set on. The characters' dynamic was irresistible, and their desires were utterly carnal and just plain hot! And the threatening circumstances surrounding them, only forced their true feelings to surface quicker.
I undoubtedly LOVED this book! A completely unexpected surprise from Sapphire, and one that was beyond amazing. I did not want this book to end, and am hoping she gives us another enthralling taste of the joker!
5 unquestionable stars!

Thaddaeus oozes power, danger and he's all Italian Alpha. I was immediately drawn to his character.
Grace is a woman with backbone and not afraid of the man most people in Chicago fear.
Thaddeus first sees Grace in a restaurant, few words were spoken but he immediately claims her sending her mysterious gifts for the next 10 days with his intentions on the 10th day to formally introduce himself and make her his, the courting period officially over.
Thaddeus's character is exciting, the plot exciting and unpredictable.
Thaddeus is of the Mafia blood but runs his own illegal businesses in Chicago, so he's more like a powerful gang leader.
A few things in the plot I found questionable like Max challenging Thaddeus over Grace, friend or not a powerful Mafia leader wouldn't of took it also Max is British we don't say "of course bloke" we would say of course mate, bloke is another word for a man but it wouldn't be used in that context.
Overall Gangster is an exciting read that I couldn't put down, I thought it ended abruptly but as long as these characters feature in future books letting you see the outcome or how Grace is settling into the lifestyle in maybe another book in this series then that's fine. I hate finishing a book and although it's not a cliffhanger you're left up in the air or wandering about the ever after's when all it needs is an epilogue.
Told in dual pov's contains hot sexy scenes, danger, suspense and angst.
Gangster is a good Mafia style read with great character's.
Everyone fears the Joker, he is ruthless and a terrifying enemy to those that know him. When he sees Grace in the restaurant he walked into and she does not cower in fear, instead is flippant and mesmerizing he is intrigued. He has a plan to court Grace, she will be his and he is moving fast to claim her as his own.
Grace knows she should fear Thaddeus (Joker), but when she spends time with him she feels the safest she has ever felt. As Thaddeus begins to bring Grace into his life, he finds there is a threat out for Grace and he is determined to protect her at all costs.
This was a bit different than what I expected. The story has a couple of twists that I did not expect. I liked Grace and Thaddeus together, he is so committed to her and I enjoyed the fact she had a spine and gets ticked with him when the situation arises. Great story.
Great read if....you enjoy mob/mafia/crime stories, hot scenes, fast story lines, and an HEA.
Side Note: Sapphire...Oh when she does crime, she creates a crime world you can't help but be swept away in. I like the vibe of her characters, their bonds, and the lengths they are willing to go to. I liked the limits and the unusual time frame of actions she pushed with this book. Not insta life per say, but not the courting process we are used too. While I had moments where I yelled and wished things would've lasted longer, my only real upset by the entire thing was how shortly after the plot twist everything ended. I was left wanting more and to see them together further. At first I was quite upset by it but then I realized it was brilliant in it's own way. YOU are left to decide the fate in your head. YOU are left with the pieces to build more and let your imagination run away, all while getting the answers you needed. It was a great read for me. I was excited the entire way through. Hope there is more in this universe for me to read soon. *Sings* "I need a gangstaaaaaa....."
Honestly this was a difficult book for me to review because my opinion is divided.....I really thought this was an enjoyable mafia/ bad boy romance....I loved the premise of Thaddeus, the gangster who sets his sights on Grace a smart, beautiful, somewhat in denial, woman.... and without divulging the plot I must say that Thaddeus' method of courtship was particularly swoon worthy ...
The central characters were interesting and the fact that both took turns to tell the story from their point of view ensured that all aspects of the events playing out could be understood and their motives and feelings clarified...I loved Grace's sense of humour which had me giggling at times...the colleagues and housemates of Thaddeus were also wonderfully observed and I would love to know more about them and their past and future lives....which sadly brings me to some of the concerns I have regarding this book..
Firstly the voice's of Thaddeus and Grace are heard through their dual narrative but in my opinion there was far too much reflection on their thoughts and feelings and at times this grew tedious and caused the pace of the story to lag...
Secondly the developing relationship between the two protagonists, although rather swift, was sweet and romantic but the potentially more thrilling/mafia aspects of this story were few and far between, short lived and easily resolved...I felt this was such a shame because the author clearly knows how to write a gripping story and I wanted more intrigue and action....
...a minor grouch was that Macintosh is purportedly from England but honestly some of the words he used simply did not fit with his personality and made him sound immature.....
Finally I was disappointed in the conclusion...I am under the impression this is a standalone but I felt that there were still some loose ends that required tying up and I was frustrated that there was no epilogue to provide a window into the future for all the characters...I would love to read more about Thaddeus and Grace and the supporting characters and it felt as though I was left with a cliffhanger....
In summary this is a well written and entertaining bad boy romance with a hero and heroine matched in strength of personality and will....there is so much potential with this premise and the characters I do hope the author decides to add further instalments in the future...I have given the book 3.5 but honestly with a few tweaks it would earn a well deserved 4.5 stars from me.......This book was reviewed for Summer's Eve Reads...
Stars: 5 Thaddeus. Hot, possessive, and a bad boy. He gets what he wants and doesn't take no for an answer. His courting of Grace is unique yet beautiful and shows his determination to bring her fully into his life. Grace She plays a hard ass, tough girl, but I feel that there's something in her that makes her want to be coddled a bit. Almost as if she doesn't get enough affection, which all changes as soon as Thaddeus comes into the picture because he's ready to give her exactly what she needs. Grace and Thaddeus as a couple works like a gear and oil, one shouldn't be used without the other. He shows her a world she never thought she would fit into, but does like a puzzle piece. I truly love this couple and highly recommended the read. I could feel the passion pouring from the pages.
Ok so Iove this author and my favorite genre is mafia/organized crime so this book was a definite for me . With saying that iw would give this book a 3..5 star rating. This book took ahold of me from the start and I seriously couldn't put it down, so I bet you are sking then why 3.5 stars, it was the ending for me. I felt like I was in wharp drive it happened so fast. it just seemed super rushed and it left me feeling like where is the rest of it. I mean overall the book was good it just seemed to rushed at the end.
I was so excited the way this book started off. There is nothing I like more than a little sass in my females. A girl who will not back down even in the trenches of a badass man. The only thing I would have wished for is that her attitude would have lasted throughout the book. It seemed that as soon as she met Thaddaeus she lost that spunk.
The one thing I did love was the way Thaddaeus knew what he wanted. There was no question as to who or what belonged to him. He saw the girl and he didn't stop until he owned her.
If you are looking for a quick read about two people who love beyond doubt and know exactly what they want then this is the book for you.
The gangsters themselves were semi-intriguing; their closeness, the fact that they lived together, the violent life they led... They had a unique feel to them & I liked that.
BUT... There was WAY TOO MUCH inner dialogue in this book. It forced me to skim the pages because it made the story drag. I didn't give a care about every little thing the heroine had going on in her head. I wanted more of her interactions with the Hero. Conversations, sizzling-through-the-pages chemistry, sexy body language... there just wasn't enough of it & that was disappointing. I wanted to believe they had some sort of connection but I just didn't feel one. *shrugs*
Just call me #unsatisfied with this one. I will continue on with this author (because I really enjoy her Vendetti & Oathkeepers series) but probably won't continue on with this particular one.
That cover though, that was totally on point & proved to be a great visual for Thaddaeus.
I was really, really hoping that I would love this book more than I did. The cover is phenomenal and the synopsis is intriguing. I had to read this book once I found out it was about gangsters/mafia. There were parts of this book that I loved, and then there were the parts that I didn't love. Basically, I didn't love this book, but I didn't hate it either.
I was immediately drawn into the story. I fell in love with Grace and Thaddeus from the very beginning. I really like how dark and twisty this book is. Well, I should say how dark and twisty Thaddeus is. No wonder he got the name Joker.
Grace is a strong willed woman who in the eyes of Thaddeus was completely pure. She attracted his attention by not being afraid of him. But, she should be very afraid. Thaddeus was completely different around her than he was around everyone else. She brought that out in him. Grace made him smile when no one else ever could. But, I didn't like how she turned her head at everything he did. She knew who he was and what he could do. What he has done. She ignored it. Acted like none of it happened. I don't see someone like Grace doing that.
Thaddeus was an alpha male. Mysterious, sexy, sinful and just flat out dangerous. I loved the mysteriousness about him. He would do things that I didn't expect and completely shock me. But, I loved how much he adored Grace. How protective he was over her. But, he was a criminal. And has done some very bad things. How could he get sweet, innocent Grace to become his? To live the way he lives? The Joker would stop at nothing to make that happen.
I was completely enthralled with this story from the very beginning. But as the story progressed, it started to feel very rushed. Everything started happening too quickly. Grace didn't seem like the same person she was at the very beginning. She didn't seem strong willed anymore, and I loved that about her. I was also waiting for the big moment to happen at the end, and nothing huge happened. I was left very disappointed with that. There wasn't really a cliffhanger as well. When the story ended, it felt like it stopped right in the middle of the story. It just ended without that big moment. Yes, there was a little shocker at the end, but it didn't feel as if the story should have stopped there. I needed something more.
I really enjoyed reading Gangster. It is full of passion, action and drama. This book really made me question my morals!! That is what I loved about this story. I really like Thaddeus and I was rooting for him and Grace, but he does awful things. I could not put this book down once I started. The little shocker at end definitely left me wanting to see what happens next. It took me completely by surprise. I will definitely be reading the next book to see where Sapphire Knight takes it.
I was in the mood for some mafia romance and when this book popped up in my newsfeed, I decided to give it a go. It was a fun and nice read- Sapphire night sure writes the hottest bad guys. T.M was swoon-worthy around Grace and he'll make your heart melt with his gestures. All in all, it was sweet and quick read that I definitely enjoyed.
I can only laugh at these authors STUPID attempt to make these STUPID H appear dangerous. They are absolutely dumb and boring just like the h. Yawn😴😴😴😴 And I'm still clueless as why the STUPID H liked the STUPID h ....!!!!!!!! God knows and who cares 😴😴😴😴😴
Gangster is not at all what I expected, but instead so much more. The mystery of it all sucked me in from the start, laying a sweet trap to grab and hold my attention and making me read all in one sitting.
While out to eat with a friend, Grace never expects to catch a man's eye, especially not the type of man Thaddeus is, but she does and it changes everything. Suddenly she finds herself on the recieving end of his attention and she's unsure about what it all means and how to proceed. It doesn't help that those around her aren't impressed by him and what they know about him.
Thaddeus was such a strong Alpha, sometimes his thoughts and actions made me want to hug him, and sometimes made me wanna hit him and say Not that way, but it fit his character to be over the top, to want to protect Grace at any and all costs.
There were parts of the story where I wasn't sure I liked where things were going, mostly I wasn't sure about the characters and their actions, but it all came together in the end and I felt like I understood better after I finished. The story was full of mystery, lurking danger, a bit of darkness and drama, but it's also got passion and steam and a blooming romance snuck in with all the rest.
Thaddeus aka Joker was an alpha bad boy, possessive, hot and all Italian gangster! He always goes after what he wants and he want Grace! He literally courts Grace and it was memorable considering what type of man Thaddeus really is. Thaddeus was all in when it came to feisty Grace!
Now tough Grace is a funny smart*ss but she missing affection until in walks Thaddeus aka Joker who never laughs or smiles til Grace!
Although "Gangster" focused more on Thaddeus and Grace's relationship than the seedy gangster lifestyle, I really enjoyed this book regardless. It would be great for some of his men to have books also (hint- hint)
This book left me scratching my head, wondering if I somehow picked the wrong one. I even went back to reread the blurb, hoping I’d missed something. It promised gangsters, war, and thrilling events, but none of that was delivered.
Instead, the story dragged along with a hero trying to convince himself he’s important while pursuing a wannabe independent heroine who didn’t live up to the claim. The plot lacked excitement and depth, and the writing didn’t do much to save it.
The disconnect between the blurb and the actual book was frustrating. What was promised and what was delivered were two entirely different things, leaving me feeling disappointed.
This book started out so strong and stayed strong through most of the book. It just fizzled at the end for me a little, I just expected a little bit more than that. I loved the shocked factor at the end but then it fell off and that's where I needed more but otherwise and even with that this book is still good. Grace is a strong, doesn't bend down to nobody woman. And that is exactly what draws the Joker to her. But of course she kind of doesn't believe in gangsters or mobsters either. But when one of the top men wants you and will do anything to get you. What will you do? Follow along and find out as T.M. and Grace get to know one another. And laugh and fall in love and follow the excitement and see if a good girl can love a gangster. I read this book in one sitting, I wanted to know what happened plus it was a short read for me. And I recommend this book.
This read just didn’t do it for me. I lost interest at around 74% and really had to work at finishing it, as it was I have to admit I skimmed through the last 20%.
3.5 I did have a lot of high hopes for the gangster, however i just couldn't connect with the story completely, the was something missing for me and the end was way too rushed. Overall a good read.
Thaddaeus will do anything for his woman, "...she doesn’t have to tell me twice. I’ll happily walk around naked as much as she wants. I allow her to push my jacket down the remainder of my arms, freeing me from the constricting fabric." Thaddaeus is one considerate man, “I wouldn’t dream of letting you pay for anything. I can give you a card and you can order whatever you want.” I really enjoyed this book, and I'm hoping Thadaeus's men get stories of their own.
I’ve got to admit that for a bit I wasn’t sure if I would finish Gangster. I wasn’t connecting with the book at first, but I had a feeling if I just continued on that things would get more interesting and I am so glad that I did because I enjoyed this one. I didn’t love it but I liked it overall. Now with the name Gangster you think mafia right? Well while there is some mafia connection this is not a mafia book. It is about a gang, not your let’s tag up walls with symbols or wear certain colors to show who your crew is, no this gang is somewhere in between the mafia and a street gang. They keep the street gangs in line and no one messes with the Joker and no this is not about Batman either.
Thaddeus aka Joker is someone people fear, they do not want to get on his bad side nor do they want his attention. Grace sasses off to him when she first meets him and that is what draws his attention to her and he begins his plan to have her as his own. He could be extremely sweet and generous one minute and blood thirsty and ruthless the next. I wanted to love Grace but I just couldn’t fully connect with her character. There are some things that happen or are said in the book that had me wanting to slap Joker and his crew with a baseball bat, as well as Grace and her friend.
Overall I enjoyed Gangster I just wish I would have loved it but I do recommend this one still because once I did get into the story I did enjoy it.
Can I please start with that I was blown away by this book. My first by Sapphire Knight, I was on the edge of my seat, flipping the pages until it came to a sudden halt. It's gripping, passionate, dangerous, and surprising all wrapped up into one.
The world of violence and impending danger created by suggestion was impeccable. I felt it every time Thaddaeus came into a room. The air around him shifted with his grace, strength and his unknown intentions. His obsession with Grace was instant and unwavering, letting the reader know he'd do whatever it takes to win her. His character was so well developed that the two faces of the Joker were seamlessly stitch together. I was actually rooting for both sides of him; making me question important qualities in a relationship.
Grace was the perfect yin to his yang. Her innocence and strength matched his fierceness. She was beautifully written with wit, sass, strength and humor. I loved that she forged her own path rather than heading the suggestions of friends. She could make a life for herself with these men of monsters. With Thaddaeus' love and loyalty, she would be protected, but was is she living with rose colored glasses on.
But wait for the end! The whole story flipped upside down and then it was over. Pure and utter shock as I flip the last page and read those 2 sad words: THE. END.
I loved every second of this book. I can not wait to read more of their story, should there be more (pleaseeee)!!
This was a really good story and I really enjoyed reading this book!
Thaddeus sets his sights on Grace while Grace is having lunch with her best Kayleigh. Grace has no clue who Thaddeus is and their first encounter with each other was hilarious!
From here Thaddeus determines Grace is the one and pursues her relentlessly. He decides to court her and it’s really sweet when we find out the explanation behind this. Thaddeus is a one hell of a bad ass but also has such a sweet side that you would think he’s not the bad ass that he really is. Grace is hilarious and strong minded in her own right and these two together just work.
Thaddeus knows what he wants and its Grace. Will Grace bounce once she finally realizes exactly who Thaddeus is and the business he is involved in or will Grace be the Bonnie to Thaddeus’ Clyde and be his ride or die to the end?
This was a great story and I recommend this book highly!! I’m glad that the author hinted that there will be more coming in the future. I’m really hoping Dillon and Kayleigh get their story!

Diving into this book I first wasn't sure what to really expect this being my first Sapphire knight book and all. I started it late at night and was up way into the early morning hours reading it. I was completely and totally taken by Thaddaeus, he may be feared by so many but he was such a giant softy when it came to Grace. He and Grace are super cute and hot together. From the begining I loved that Grace was feisty. My favorite is a feisty heroine and a tough bossy hero, each never backing down but ultimately find a way to work. But Grace seemed to loose some of that spark that she once had in the begining of the book, and I thought that was what caught Thaddaeus in the begining too. I wish that she'd stayed feisty throughout.
Regardless though I really enjoyed the book, if you love steamy sexy mafia romance you'll want this book. I still loved Grace and Thaddaeus and their story no matter and I'd read it again, just for Thaddaeus.
It was an easy read without too much crazy drama that I think you'll still enjoy. This being my first book from Sapphire Knight I totally look forward to more. Give me your ideas what should I read next?
