Cute little children's book! Illustrations are fantastic and definitely captures the city's iconic structures and locations. I definitely recommend for Inland Empire residents with children.
This may be one of the worst PR pieces I've ever seen. The illustrations were overly simplistic, and the scale was a joke (The Casa Blanca library garden plants look tall enough to be redwoods...they're SHRUBS, people!). And, speaking of the library, it's amusing that they chose Casa Blanca...probably because the main library is such an eyesore. I understand that the City is trying to make themselves look good, but the reality of a place like Fairmount Park is scary. Between the homeless and the drugs and the overall filth, I wouldn't recommend this park to anyone.
This whole book reminds me of "How Bad Can I Be' from "The Lorax": All the customers are buying, And the money is multiplying, And the PR people are lying, And the lawyers are denying... Yep. PR people are lying here, at the very least lying by omission, which is just as bad as lying outright. Fix the city, people, before you try to convince the little ones to come here.
This book is a lovely look at the best parts of Riverside. I see it not as PR but as a celebration of our city's culture. Riversiders turn each page and find reminders of favorite memories and places, and the illustrations do a wonderful job of showing the sights from a child's perspective. And those not familiar with Riverside find the perfect guidebook for their families' next visit!
