"Ever made a wish and had it come true? Well lucky you, because I have never had any of my wishes come true."
Arsyn Henley has had a rough life growing up. All the universe has ever done, is take every loved one she has ever had and give deep rooted scars—both on the inside and out—in return. When a relative she never knew about dies and leaves her a cabin in the mountains, she's eager to start over with a new life. She could never have guessed her new life would be riddled with secrets about her family, new people to love and most of all magic beyond her wildest dreams.
Enter the four dashing Kismet brothers who take this broken girl on a metaphorical magic carpet ride through the world of Jinn—beings who grant the wishes of the human race—and slowly put back together her soul with pieces of their own.
But where there's light, dark is soon to follow. Can she find the strength to accept her new reality and the people who come with it bringing all the beauty of love and light to her? Or will she falter and beckon the darkness to take her away as its own?
*This is a Reverse-Harem series with some disturbing sequences of events, mild language and is recommended for ages 17+*
Great idea & an interesting world but the MMCs felt incredibly young. They're aged 22 24 & 26 but they felt like Rowdy & immature 12- 15 yo boys. I wasn't a fan of any of the MMC except Killian. I never felt any chemistry between the love interest; if asked to describe the relationship between the 5 I'd say it's a platonic friendship. Honestly I didn't enjoy the author's writing the story read as a friendship between young teens with the exception of the times the author forced physical attention between the FMC & a MMC. I say forced bc any "romance" failed to feel organic. The author's writing was also filled with tons of telling how things went after they happened vs showing the reader how the relationship dynamics progressed keeping things present tense & allowing us to feel any growth. The dialogue was pretty awful & the majority of the story was filler. I almost DNF'd it @ 51% out of sheer boredom. Nothing ever happened except some bullying & then the kidnapping resulting in a cliffhanger ending. 2 stars. I doubt I'll continue the series. I'm befuddled by the 4 & 5 star ratings.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
4.4 stars. This was really entertaining. I love all the playfulness with the guys and Arsyn. Not a ton has happened yet. No sex. Not much plot wise. This was mostly an introduction into the world of Jinn and everyone getting to know each other.
Then that cliffhanger happened and sort of kickstarted us off into what I’m guessing will be the plot line through the series.
So far I’m really liking it. Hopefully that’ll continue to grow. I can’t wait to see how things progress.
To say that Arsyn had a rough life would be an understatement. The things she lived through could make anyone shudder. So when a lawyer contacts Arsyn, informing her about a cabin she inherited from her mysterious uncle, she leaps at the chance and gets ready to move. She just doesn't realize that a whole new world is waiting for her there. Talan, Killian, Elijia and Zachary just came back from a world tour, where they were searching for their Conduit, not knowing that she had actually just moved into their town.
The world itself was a rather intriguing one, I don't think I've ever read a book about the Jinn before. Seeing as how Syn didn't know anything about the Jinn world as well, we get to learn along with her. Things were explained in an easy way, so I didn't have any problem with understanding the history and rules. I'd like to say that I liked the plot line, but the pacing of the book was rather slow and it made it feel as though not much have happened in the story.
The characters were an interesting bunch. I liked the guys and their personalities, though I was occasionally annoyed with Syn and her temper tantrums. The moment the guys decided to hide the fact that Syn was their Conduit, I knew (along with every other reader out there, I think) that it was a bad idea. But holly shit did she overreacted when the truth finally came to light. I mean, jeez, give the guys at least some time to explain their reasons for omitting the truth (not that I myself understood those reasons, but still), instead of acting the way she did. Can't say it was that predictable, but I sort of saw that ending coming, along with what happened after her tantrum.
Overall, the book was okey, but nothing special, in my opinion. I enjoyed it while reading, but I'm still not sure if I'm interested enough to read the second book.
DNF 42% I just couldn’t finish this. Talan, one of the love interests, became so annoying. And the replacement swearing was just too lame, and only detracted more from Talan’s already pesky and immature behaviour. Syn went from be a tough woman to suddenly being a simpering giggler. Yep, as much as I wanted to like this and got into Syn’s initially complex character, I ended up feeling the entire novel lost its impact and felt I could no longer connect with her..
I found the story too easy and the characters pretty boring. I couldn't connect and while there are some extremely cute and funny moments, the book in itself didn't inspire me much. I really like the all eye/scar thing, though.
Arsyn has had a rough life. Her parents were killed when she was young and she suffered all kinds of abuse in the foster care system and has the scars to prove it. Out of the blue, she inherits a cabin in the mountains from an uncle she didn't know she had. When she arrives at the cabin, this uncle has left her a note telling her that she is part of a fantastical world of Jinns and magic. She doesn't believe it until she meets the four Kismet brothers who are Jinn. They share a connection with Arsyn and try to guide her through an introduction to their world. Unfortunately, the Kismets are not the only ones interested in Arsyn's sudden appearance into their society.
This was a pretty decent introduction to a new series. I thought the character development went well. We know all about Arsyn's past, her insecurities and the strength of her character. We also get to know the four brothers that will be her harem if she accepts them. Introduced towards the end is the force of opposition. We don't get to know too much about that, but it seems we will get more in book two. This one ends in a cliffhanger and has me wanting to get the next book as soon as possible. Smut factor for this RH is only a 1 out of 5. Not much has happened yet other than a few kisses.
I wanted to like this more than I did. And to be honest, it was probably a 3.5 until the last 15% or so, just because I was enjoying it despite some glaring problems.
Firstly, let me say that I'm tagging this as amateur because there's some grammatical issues that are a constant throughout the book, and I want to flag that for people who will be driven absolutely up the wall by it. The wrong word is frequently used, like "he peaked into the bag" or "this was all more than she could bare". For me personally, on a scale of 1 to 10, those kinds of problems in a book bother me a little, like ... a 5. More bothersome is that the narration felt very repetitive - same phrasings repeated a lot, stuff like that. Generally, that's more of a 7 to me. But as always YMMV.
I enjoyed it despite that because I thought the world and magic was interesting - you don't see much about jinn in UF, and I liked this take on it. I liked the mythology of it, the Black Jinn and etc. So I kept plugging away, and was into it until what should have been a minor problem became a massive problem ... and then the characters became so freaking stupid that it was hard to swallow. Spoiler tags for the discussion on that:
Last quibble - and this doesn't need spoiler tags - is that these characters are all in their mid-20s, but they sound and act like they are 12-15. I just want to underscore this: they are INSANELY juvenile. This reads more like a YA, that occasionally jumps to them being in their mid-20s for sexual tension.
I honestly don't know why I am reading on, but I am. I guess because I was liking it, somehow, despite all that until the very end, when all the stupidity climaxed into utter ridiculousness.
What a solid interesting beginning to this series.
This was a unique take on the paranormal world. I never read a book about jinn before.
Arsyn was a great h and I really loved the fact that she had a physical facial issue and the guys loved her for the person she is not her physical beauty.
The plot was unpredictable and that is always a plus.
Pages: 448 My rating (stars): 3 Read other books from this author in the future: yes
I had trouble with this book. The MC’s act less mature than their age and a lot could be solved by talking things out and listening to the other. I will see, if it will improve in the second book.
The characters interactions and dialogue didn't suit their ages. Some parts had me cringing from cheesiness.....They are supposed to be adults and act like tweens which made it difficult to enjoy.
This was a really promising start for the series. I really liked some of the original concepts, I haven't read too many books about Jinn. Slow burn RH here, I really like the connections forming between the characters and how despite the "destiny" of the situation the author has made the story so that their connections are allowed to develop at a a seemingly normal pace unhindered by any fate type connections. I also thought the author did a pretty good job of differentiating the characters so that all the Male characters don't "sound" the same or have the same personality. Though they do seem a little "too good to be true." I also like how there were humorous scene's and banter which seemed to endear me to the characters a little more. I think what kept this from being a 4 star for me was the lack of world building, not that the scenes themselves weren't easy to picture but more about the magical world would have been helpful. We do have a really slow revealing backstory here and as a reader we are slowly learning things as the FMC Arsyn does, but at times it felt more like a fact dump or a quick fill in the blank more so than storytelling.
Arsyn, our FMC, has endured a horrific life after the loss of both her parents in the foster system. Beaten and brutalized, until finally gaining her freedom, finally finding a sense of belonging with a best friend only to loose it in a terrible tragic accident that left her with even more scars emotionally and physically up until learning of an uncle who has left her his money and home.. and a legacy a little to crazy to believe. The Kismet (lol ironic I know) brothers have been on the lookout for their Conduit for years traveling through Jinn communities all over the world in search of the one who can complete them and open them up to their powers. Upon returning home from their search empty handed they all become bonded to their conduit.. now its up to them to find her. Low and behold the Cabin on the hill seems to have been sold to someone new, time to check it out. Arsyn fights the knowledge of this new world all the while falling deeper and deeper into her new life and the sense of friendship and family that the Kismets bring, especially after having yearned for it all her life... but there is something else after Arsyn, something dark.. apparently her choices and destiny are more than just the 4 brothers, and the secrets they keep from her may just tear her away and place her on a darker path.
Cliffhanger ending here! This book was good enough that I wanted to immediately jump right into the next one. I am excited to see where this goes as we gain more backstory.. but more than anything I'm excited for Arsyn to finally come into her own, and not have to just survive anymore, to be in control of what is going on around her!
Make Me a Wish is one BIG emotional ride. You will cry, you will laugh, you will laugh until you cry, you will cry some more, and you will fall in love with the Jinn world. I am going to try and not give a lot away, because honestly this is one of those books that I would have hated to read a spoiler about before I even read it.
The authors took the Jinn concept as a whole and made it their own fascinating world of awesome that it will ruin your stigma on the Jinn completely. I was absolutely blown away for how much detail they added along with the right amount of back story. Books can tend to get lost in back story, but they meshed everything together flawlessly. The details paint a vivid enough perception that you find yourself living it out like you were Arsyn herself. So many kudos to the authors for creating such a realistic and addicting world.
The Kismet brothers are absolutely worth Book Boyfriend status. Each of their personalities are well developed and you have no moments in the books where you spend guessing who is who. Thank you both for putting so much effort into developing them in such a way where you have no confusion or doubts. I know that is no easy task, but yet again you both made it seem so effortless and complete that I was not left feeling like I lacking with any of the brothers.
Arsyn is such a strong MC. Life has beaten her down and she has always had the complete shit end of the stick, so to say. Your heart will break for her at the beginning of the book, but soon enough you see her strength shinning through. Her character development is super strong as well. She is one of the very few female characters I did not want to punch in the throat for acting like a whiny girl. She has plenty of moments in this book where she could have turned into that type of girl, but the authors kept her personality strong and did not let her create a whiny girl stereo type just for the sake to have conflict in the story. Seriously I adore you both for that, because that is my number one pet peeve in books.
The interactions between Arsyn and her Jinn are hilarious and heart felt, but it's the small moments between each of them that will win your heart over. After fully immersing in Arsyn's backstory you will find your own heart beating fast with each encounter from they guys, all because you know how much it means to her.
The story over all will suck you in and leave you staring at the wall for a few minutes after you finish because you don't want to accept that book one is done. Then you will find yourself saying, "Really?! I NEED BOOK 2?!" So yes, this book gets a full 5 stars with me and also leaves me with one big book hangover........
I was lucky enough to received a free advanced reader copy of this book and I voluntarily decided to review it.
This is an absolutely fantastic first book in a new series, I was hooked from page one and could not put it down.
The writers have come up with an amazing story, it shows courage and strength through adversity, our heroine Arsyn has not had an easy life, things look up when she gets left a cabin by an unknown relative, despite all she has been through she has a loving and giving nature at odds with her past.
She meets the Kismet brothers Killian (Kill) Elijah, Talan and Zachary who do not pay any mind at all to her scars, and show her that she is beautiful.
This is a very well written, beautiful story with an amazing cast of characters that you cannot help but fall in love with. It has a paranormal edge to it as they are Jinn, but it is such an exciting read, that once you start, you will not want to put it down.
I loved this story and I am so looking forward to book two in the series, major props to K.B Ladnier and Anita Maxwell for writing such a heart warming exciting story, and for their creativity in their storyline
I highly recommend this book to everyone, its awesome
Is Jinn-tacular a word? Hmm no. Well it is now 😈 Reverse harem is a truly magical genre. Why is it magical you ask? Ohh so glad you did! What lucky lady (or male) wouldn't want four guys (or girls) as partners? In this case not even in the sexual sense, (ok it does get steamy! But we have 2 more books to expect more steam before the end) but as in the protected loved one sense.
What was I saying about rh? Yes, right it's magical! In this case it's actually really magical! The main characters Tallan, Zachary, Elijah, and Killian are hot as hell Jinn's that are looking for their conduit (Arsyn ) in hopes to gain their powers❤️
'Make Me A Wish' was an emotional rollercoaster that often left me laughing my head off (you get weird looks when laughing hysterically on a bus) and emotionally wrecked. Even after becoming a sobbing wreck that I was, I became addicted to my sexy as hell Jinns ❤️
I loved everything about 'Make Me A Wish' except the cliffhanger omg Anita and K.B. Are evil masterminds when it comes to cliffhangers 😱😭 I'm scared for book 2 and yet I already know I'll love it. Although I may have been put thru metaphorical hell with the ending as abrupt as it was, I wouldn't change a thing ❤️. I'm so excited to see what my favorite cliffhanging masterminded authors come up with in books 2 and 3... That ending though! *pulls out hair in frustration*
Wow!! This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! It was heart wrenching learning all about what Arsyn has experienced in her short life! The writing was so eloquent and spoke to me and made me feel as if i was right there with her and the guys experiencing what they went through! The pace set between Arsyn and the boys was perfect and 100% believable which isn't the case most of the time. I literally screamed and laughed and cried out loud reading this book and I am dying for book #2 to come out! If you don't read this book you could possibly be making the mistake of a lifetime and regret it until your life spins out of control causing chaos to rein down! So do yourself a favor and order it asap to save yourself! K.B. Ladnier and Anita Maxwell have created something amazing together and I can't wait to see what else they bring to the world!!
Yes, yes, yes!!!! I loved this book and am impatiently waiting for the next one! Arsyn is amazing, she was thrown into this new world, and I think she did an awesome job of adapting to it. She has had such a tough life growing up that all you want to do it hug her.
This is quickly becoming a favorite of this year. I had a few chuckles when I read Arsyn's name as Assryn a couple of times. I think Arsyn needs to grow a bit in how she controls her emotions. She seems to realize this towards the end though. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
I liked this book, but some of it felt forced. Syn seems to undergo several character changes throughout the story, and acts in extremes that feel out of place - yet she is still a good character. There is also quite a few info dumps that dragged on, though that eased as the novel wore on.
Amazing. Stunning. Gripping. I mean, do I need to say more about a book that has Jinn? Real, hot, sexy Jinn? No, I didn't think so either. Read. It. Now.
I wish I could have four hot genie boyfriends, if you don't want them Syn, send them this way!
The Basics: Genre: Paranormal Reverse-Harem Romance. (I'd say it has a slightly YA feel, and big hints of comedy too!) Series or Standalone: Series. #1 Rating: 5 Stars
Let me start with the heroine, Arsyn Henley.
Arsyn has had it tough, really tough. Dead parents, dead friend, terrible foster homes. And yet, Arsyn is strong, she's got depth, and she's fun.
The Guys!
^This GIF x 4.
The World and Plot:
The world build itself is unique and interesting. I've never read a book with Jinn as the main characters, so this was a pleasant change from the usual supes I read about.
The plot was a little bit slower than I'd of liked at first, mainly because I love to skip straight to the action. It was always interesting, humorous, or fun, and I did, however, like the fact the main character spent some time getting to know the guys more normally before the crazy stuff kicks in. (I mean seriously, that last chapter and epilogue have you DYING for book two, right?)
The Verdict:
This is a unique, interesting, start to a reverse-harem series. I'm excited to see where this story is going to go, and also excited to see what other works we can expect from both of these authors in the future.
"Make Me a Wish" is a new fantasy RH book featuring wish granting Jinn and their Conduits that you don't want to miss!
In addition to creating a unique and magical world, the authors have developed an interesting cast of characters that are easy to love (or hate) and connect to. The main character is Arsyn Henley whose difficult past is etched into her skin in the form of scars. (Readers who may be triggered by scenes of violence should know that Arsyn's abuse is described towards the beginning of the book.) Her silver hair and clearly visible scars across her face set her apart and she's had difficulty growing close to others. She is a brave character who hasn't lost her hope or strength despite numerous hardships. Her luck changes though with the entrance of the Kismet brothers. They are Jinn who have almost given up hope of finding their Conduit. The eldest, Killian, is the protector of the group. Next is Elijah, the voice of reason. Last are the twins, Zach, the calm healer, and Talan, the loving goofball. Each character is great on their own, but the five together as a group is really amazing. There are a lot of fun and sweet moments between Arsyn and the guys, though the romance is slow to build.
In addition to this main group of characters, there are several important side characters who are not lacking in development either. Through the Kismet brothers, Arsyn gains friends and the family she never had. Adie and Nova are twins and cousins to the Kismet brothers, and they become fast friends of Arsyn. These two girls are hilarious, loyal, and kick-butt. Of course, there's also the required bad guys in the story but I won't go too much into them to avoid giving away spoilers.
The plot centers mostly around Arsyn's discovery of the Jinn and Conduit world as well as the development of her relationship with the Kismet brothers. As Arsyn is drawn more into this new and magical world, she learns that there is danger too in the form of the Sihr Jinn, who are the evil counterparts of their benevolent brethren. While at first these Sihr Jinn don't seem to be an immediate threat, Arsyn and the guys soon learn it is a mistake to underestimate the enemy. The book ends dramatically and on a cliff-hanger, which may upset some readers. Hopefully the sequel will come soon to put us all at ease!
K.B. Ladnier and Anita Maxwell have done a terrific job writing their first book and I look forward to reading the next book in The Conduit series. I would recommend "Make Me a Wish" to fans of fantasy and RH.
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
This book was so good..I love the heroine in this story she has been through so much in her life and is so strong, she also learns of a world a lot different then she thought an does so good handling it..This book will make you cry and then laugh...*sigh* Loved the male characters in this book especially Talan *wink* he is incredibly funny I LOL at him several times and the chemistry between Arsyn and the guys is spot on..The authors done an awesome job writing this and I can't wait for book 2..If you haven't read this book check it out I promise you won't regret it I absolutely loved it and can't wait for more!!! I was provided an ARC copy of this book for a honest review
Do you love read about the Jinn too? I love this book and I can't wait for book 2. This would, I think, be a great movie if done produced correctly and I see already just in one book what potential this series would have for a movie! I think it would be as big as Twilight or Harry Potter! I love the Kismet brothers and Arsyn. What great lovable characters every one of them! When does book 2 come out? I am so excited to find out more and hang out with the Kismet brothers again.
First book in the series and I can't wait for more!! Arsyn is looking for a fresh start to her life when she moves to her late uncles cabin after so many tragic events in her life when she stumbles into a completely new world, this story left on a huge cliffhanger and omg this series is going to be so good!!!
holy ball sack! this book was fantastic! I strongly suggest to give this book a chance! arsyn is a kick ass girl who needs a hug from all of her men. Please don't get me started on her men heart eyed emoji over here. all in all read this book now.
Make Me a Wish is amazing! Arsyn Henley has not had an easy life; orphaned young, abused by the foster system, she finally has a chance at happiness as a young adult living with her best (only) friend. However, tragedy strikes again and she is left with even more emotional and physical scars, and she's all alone again (except for her awesome dog Fritz). Then an unknown relative leaves her an inheritance; a cabin, money, and a heritage that changes her world forever.
Arsyn moves to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee a town full of magical beings. The Jinn are an ancient race of wish-givers. Arsyn is a Conduit, one who binds and strengthens the power of multiple Jinn. The Kismet Brothers; Killian, Elijah, Zachary, and Talan have been dreaming of and searching for their Conduit for years. It turns out that they are a rare quad-Jinn who will share one powerful Conduit. Arsyn. Their first meeting with Arsyn doesn't go quite according to plan. It's actually hysterical. It's not easy for her to trust and she doesn't believe in their magical world to begin with. It doesn't take them long, however, to win her over and capture her heart. Yet as much as they care for her, they make mistakes, they aren't honest. They risk her and their bond. Arsyn is being targeted by a dark force and stalked by an evil Jinn, Ren. The brother's secrets could lose them their Conduit.
Arsyn is fantastic. Her photographic memory, her silly streak, her strength, and perseverance are just a few things that make her special. But it's her compassion and ability to love that make her remarkable. She's been shown harshness her entire life, yet she's still a kind soul. She's beautiful. However, her life's tragedies have left her vulnerable for a Sihr (dark) Jinn attack. The Kismet brothers are all wonderful and unique. Killian, the protector; Elijah with his intelligence; Zachary, the healer; and Talon with his ever-ready smile and humor. And all so yummy! The way they interacted with each other, with Arsyn individually, and as a group were highly entertaining. The rest of the cast of characters were also fully developed and add to the story. The twins, Adie and Nova are adorable.
K.B. Ladnier and Anita Maxwell have created a wonderful world with extraordinary characters. There's humor, light teasing moments, sweetness, slow simmering passions, hope, frustration, pain, tragedy, anger, suspense, danger, and regret. So much action, so many emotions. There's a cliffhanger that leaves you so very eager for the next book. Excellent start to this series.
