Twenty-three year old Meagan Chambers always wanted to be a musician. Her parents wanted her to be a doctor.
She decided to risk everything to follow her dreams…
Starting over in the city of her dreams, her hard work and dedication had paid off, landing Meagan a coveted seat on one of the country’s top orchestras. She was doing what she loved. And everything was perfect.
Until she met Ashton Harris.
Lead guitarist and backup vocalist to the chart-topping Silver Knight, Ashton was unlike anyone she’d ever met. With one glance of his crooked grin, she knew he could be her undoing, but determined to succeed, she refused to let anyone step in her way …
Not even him.
Because falling for someone like Ashton Harris could ruin everything.
I loved this story and there was so much of it. Ups and downs and it captured me. I found myself irritated with Megs attitude towards things often. Lynn takes you on this incredible journey that made me feel like I would come to this beautiful grand ending but then I didn't. It was like being told about getting this fully loaded luxury car and ending up with a standard economy car. It was a HEA but there were no fireworks...just confetti. I would still recommend this book to anyone. It definitely had heart!
I adored this book. The fight for them to e together is fantastic, it shows that if you want or need to be with that person bad enou b you must fight to keep that relationship. Loved this book!
This is Lynn Rider's debut novel and I can't wait for more from her! From the very beginning I was Team Ashton all the way! I mean really how could you not be? Tattoos, muscles, sexy as sin, and a rock star who loves to cook, I was swooning! But I had my doubts if Ashton and Meagan would ever find their way together.
"I don't want to feel because when you feel the highs of love, you will inevitably feel the lows when it feel apart. Douglas couldn't hurt me, not in the life-shattering way that Ashton could."
Meagan knew Ashton would break her heart in the end. And she had worked too hard to succeed as a paid musician in the orchestra to let a rock star with a sexy grin derail all of her dreams. Her brother and his boyfriend mean the world to her, they are all she has now that her parents are no longer a part of her life. She first met Ashton while in Nashville with her brother. They were friends but she knew it was headed to more, and when he left she knew she could never let herself fall for Ashton, but that may have been too late.
"Without even trying, he controlled my every thought. I couldn't let him ruin me so I'd ended it before it had ever begun. I needed the numbness again."
Now living in New York working at her dream job and hanging out with her friends a very drunk Ashton crashes their table at a bar. And in that moment no matter how much her insides were swooning, seeing him like that she knew she had made the right decision. No matter how much it hurt her heart.
"My life is just a mess. I have one man who is perfect for me and would never hurt me and then there's Ashton."
Fast forward 15 months… Meagan is now dating an amazing man, Douglas. (he is BORING) But for her he is perfect. He won't ever hurt her. But she also is afraid that maybe he is moving in this relationship a little quicker than she is. And there is also the sexy rocker who has now apparently changed and wants to be her friend. Ashton has worked hard to grow up and change his bad ways. Hoping to prove to Meagan he can be everything she needs and more is not going to be easy, but he is willing to do whatever it takes for her to be happy. He is not a fan of her boyfriends, but no matter what he isn't going anywhere from her life again.
"Why have you tried to hate him?" I asked, looking directly at him. He looked up, studying me with a tightened jaw. "He has something that is mine."
Soon everything starts to fall apart and Meagan is lost and doesn't know where to turn. She is killing herself not being with Ashton but is scared, and at the same time Douglas is in love with her and she does not feel the same way. How do you decide between what is safe and what is right? Will it be too late and she will end up alone with both men pushed out of her life? Can Ashton and Meagan every find their way together?
I loved this story and all of the twists and turns taken during Meagan and Ashton's journey together. I absolutely adored her brother, Owen and Phillip (his boyfriend)! But Leah takes the cake, she is just awesome! She was too funny and when she was pregnant and complaining it was that much more entertaining. And Ashton… what can you say he is every girls dream. The change that you hope will happen and bring them back to you and in this story it is a reality! I really enjoyed this book and all of the characters and can't wait for more! Congrats on an amazing novel Lynn Rider!
Numb in Lynn Rider's debut book. I enjoyed it, but it left me with questions and wanting more detail into the lives of the characters. I look forward to reading what Rider comes up with next.
Meagan is an accomplished musician, working her dream job in New York City. Walking away from her family when she did not become what they wanted her to. She followed her dreams and went to live her life, her way. The only ties she has to her family, is through her older brother Owen. Who helps to support her, while she is living her dream. I really wanted more background on these two characters. We get the basic idea as to why they are no longer connected to their parents, but I wanted more.
Meagan has finally met someone who seems to be the right fit for her. But Douglas is just boring and after so long she realizes that she is not truly happy with him. Their is no spark and they behave like an old married couple.
Ashton Harris is the lead guitarist and back up vocalist for Silver Knight, one of the hottest bands to hit the pop scene. He and Meagan have crossed paths several months ago and they parted as friends. Here is another area where I would have liked a little more background info. Did they have a relationship? Were they even trying to have one? Or was Meagan so dead set on her career, that she could not make room for Aston? She did say that he would break her heart in the end.
All Ashton knows is that Meagan is it for him and he will do whatever is necessary to prove to her that they can make a life together. I love love loved his character. He was the hot, sexy, tattooed bad boy rocker. But had this amazing caring side. He wanted to help his family and make sure that Meagan was safe and protected. He was sweet, sexy, hard and controlling when he needed to be. He wanted to give her the world.
It just seemed that no matter how much Meagan claimed to love Ashton, she was constantly doubting their relationship. She would get so upset over things that are expected to happen in a rockers life and then she would hesitate to discuss them with Ashton. Although she was his biggest supporter when the shit really hit the fan between them.
Can Meagan get over all the crazy tabloid stories and put the past behind them? Is Ashton strong enough to fight for her and prove to her that he is the one that she belongs with? That he can provide for her and make her dreams come true. without losing what she wants and believes in? Pick up your copy and find out.
Over all this was a decent read. I struggled with all the professing of love. I think it was a tad over done. Other than some minor grammar issues and things being stated more times than necessary, I enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone who loves rocker romance stories.

He looked edible and once again robbed me of my breath.
Megan Chambers didn't expect to see the man that had shattered her heart in her new life centered in New York. Ashton Harris knew exactly what he was doing when he waltzed back into Megan's life, and turned it upside down in just a few short weeks.
Megan wants to be a musician, play in symphonies, and live her life the way she had it planned with her new found beau, Douglas. Yes, it's Douglas, not Doug! Her parents want her to live up to their dreams of her being a doctor. She doesn't feel like that's what would make her happy in her life that is already a hectic mess. Moving to New York was the best thing she felt she had done with her life several years prior when her heart had been shattered by the famous Ashton Harris. When he shows back up in her life weeks before the New Year, she is torn between what she knows she wants, and what she knows is right.
+Ashton Harris wants Megan Chambers back. When he hurt her, he didn't know just how bad it had been. With trying to balance his busy rockstar lifestyle, trying to win "Meg" back, and show her that Douglas isn't right for her, Ashton can't seem to win. When family drama appears in his life, and is broadcast across newspaper headlines, Megan rushes to him believing that it is because of her that he has fallen back into his old ways. She is shocked when she arrives at the hospital to learn that none of the tabloids are true, and thus starts the beginning of their relationship that Ashton, and Megan have longed for. Is it what it's all cracked up to be in the end, though?
An absolutely perfect ending to a great book! The characters are very well developed, and I can assure you that you will fall in love with Megan, Ashton, Leah, and Douglas. As the characters went through being involved in some way with the rockstar superstar, Ashton, it is obvious that Lynn Rider really put her time, and effort into the back story of the characters, as well as their own current stories that makes Numb one of my favorite books to have released this year.
I really enjoyed reading this book. This was my first "rockstar" read, and I am really looking forward to knowing what happens in the second book.
Great story and I felt for Ashton who seemed to always be hurt by Meagan as she kept running away. It seemed like what he did was never enough and she kept making all the decisions. I wanted him to stand up to her and point out that it wasn't all about her. I found her very selfish at times and Ashton really must love her to put up with it.
It was just sooo boring. It felt like a small chunk was taken out of the middle of a different book, and added to the beginning of this one. I had to look at the book details (more than twice) to make sure this wasn't a part of a series or that there wasn't a prequel/novella before this. So far, there hasn't really been any action.
Also: I would like it if we actually knew anything about Meagan's music career other than that she happens to be in a big five orchestra in New York. That's all we know. Seriously. I don't even recall learning what instrument she plays although it's technically been a year and a half in the book's universe.
I don't know how I got two dud musical books in a row . Is it me? Am I somehow doing this to myself? (Suddenly remembers that Goodreads recommended these to me) *waves fist* Darn you Goodreads! You've fooled me again.
I enjoyed it, Meagan and Ashton have a great chemistry. she is afraid to be with him because he is a rockstar and doesn't think that he will be around much for her, that he will choose groupies over her. although their attraction was instant she kept him at a distance, she even got herself a boyfriend but she couldn't stay away from Ashton. so when she breaks up with her boyfriend she decides to give in to her feelings for Ashton. they have lots of things to deal with, paparazzi, a woman claiming he is the father of her child, insecurities. but although they take some stumbles they manage to keep being together. great supporting characters. I enjoyed this book
For a debut novel, this book is amazing! I loved the story. The angst, the give and take, the ups and downs. This author knows how to write a good story. This series is quickly starting to be one of my favorites.
This book is about fear. Fear for falling, fear for getting hurt, fear for letting go. Meagan is good at running away. But Ashton knows EXACTLY what he wants. And it's Meagan. Try she may, she can't outrun Ashton.
Eventually she has to decide if she wants a guy who seems right on paper, or feels right in her heart. If you have to pick up a book, you should start with this one. Can't wait to see what other books will come along in this series.
I received this free copy from the author and can't believe how incredibly great it was!! I certainly will be buying the next book. This book had me from the very first page! This book revolves around the lives of two people who happen to meet but know there is no way they should be together!
We have Meagan, the classical musician and Ashton, the lead singer of the rock band Silver Knights! They're book is about all the struggles of a relationship and especially one in the limelight of the paparazzi!
I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't. It was so long and I felt like the parts of the book were not connected. Too much detail was given to parts that were not necessay and at the same time there was a lack of detail and missing information especially about the main caracters.
I was given this book by the author in exchange for a honest review.
Great book, had me wrapped from chapter one. I always love a book that starts with a main book then follows the characters with a series. If your like me and get book hangover then this will be perfect for you!! be prepared to laugh and cry!!
I was briefly introduced to Ashton and Meagan in a previous book and I'm so glad I got to read about them. The journey that the 2 of them went on had many ups and downs and beautiful and heartbreaking moments. I loved it!!
Oh my gosh! this book was ah-maze-balls! I absolutely loved the characters, the story all of it! It had the right amount of everything! Everyone needs an Ashton in their lives! *sigh*
I gave this a 3.5. I was super confused in the beginning of the book. I felt as though I had missed reading a novella or a previous book regarding how Ashton and Meagan met.
I really liked the first few chapters, then it got kind of cheesy. The story line was good but the dialogue was forced and the characters were kind of annoying. I didn't hate it but it wasn't something I'd read again.
