Redemption. Betrayal. And Murder. It’s just a Sweltering Summer Night in Los Angeles until Detective Tom Stone takes action.
Two murders and a cocaine trail threaten dreams of riches for Anthony Angelino, owner of the High Tide marijuana dispensary in East Hollywood.
Once arrested by Detective Tom Stone on suspicion of smuggling cocaine, the courts set Angelino free and offer a second chance. But the drug cartel that he tried to double cross has a different idea and when Stone’s high school-age daughter is found browsing in the High Tide, Stone starts tracking Angelino and uncovers the ruthlessness of betrayal.
As Stone fights for justice and confronts Angelino’s attorney, he finds himself enamored with her strength and beauty—and admires her principles of right and wrong.
Healing his fractured family and keeping Los Angeles safe make for a long, hot summer.
Don returned to his love for writing fiction after years of writing and narrating a radio spot series, marketing copy, and handling the pressures of a wild and crazy family life.
Frequent calls to the local Sheriff's office, plus the intensity of handling teen alcoholism and teen pregnancy pressed stories from his mind like Earth's weighty layers turn shale into harvestable fuel.
Well, you get the picture.
Don has fine-tuned his craft writing romance to crime fiction and the recent Tom Stone detective stories.
He lives at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains with his family, two dogs, and anyone else who happens to drop by and live for a spell.
I believe this book is the second in a series, with the events from book one spilling into book two; Sweltering Summer Nights. The action centers around Anthony Angelino, who escaped a prison sentence in the first book, and is now the owner of High Tide, a legal marijuana dispensary. Detective Tom Stone, still convinced Anthony ought to be behind bars, remains a thorn in his side, tracking his every move, legal and otherwise. Things turn nasty when Anthony’s attempt to go straight are thwarted by the drug cartel he double-crossed in the first book. They make it very clear that he now works for them. Anthony now has multiple problems, and his own drug use is just one of them. Meanwhile, when Tom Stone discovers his teenage daughter visiting the High Tide, he becomes increasingly irate about Anthony’s criminal activities and vows to catch him in the act. This book moves at a fast pace and will appeal to anyone who enjoys crime thrillers. I didn’t feel invested enough in any of the characters for this to really work for me, but I do appreciate there are other books in the series. There is plenty of action, double-crossing, betrayal and murder. It all moves at a high speed and is both well written and well researched...

Excellent story and a great main character. Very believable. I'm so glad its part of a series as the book sucks you in to want more and more. Highly readable and each one is a stand alone book too. Hard to put down until you've read it all.
I did this as a request. I grabbed it on Amazon and pretty mush finished it over a beach weekend. The author was VERY good! as was the plot.
One thing I will say is the good and bad OK So Stone was the detective who was a thorn in Angel- the bad- side. Stone was the rash that wouldnt go away. I liked his persistence throughout the book. There was a slight family side shown that was the part that made me like this PIA!
I know that Anthony Angelino was a bad guy, BUT he was misunderstood most of the book. He was the sort of character that can open this marijuana dispensary to help the medical needs of sick people and then get caught up inside a nasty world. I loved him and even though he was walking a fine line, I found him very endearing!
Fans of Los Angeles based novels, detective, crime books and thrillers will love this I sure did
The events from the first book seemingly spilled into the second book in the series and proved to be one of the most important aspects of the story. The introduction of new characters and the further development of characters from the book made the story seemed more realistic to the world created within the book and the romantic tension between Tom and the lawyer introduced a new side to Tom Stone's character and personal life. The alternating point of views between Tom and Angel made the book more excited to read than the first one.
I received a free copy of this book via the authors and am voluntarily leaving a review.
