Love isn’t always NEAT…

Bartender and all round bad boy, Eric Collins, has come to a crossroads. It’s time to take life seriously and maybe even attempt to settle down. If only the person he was hoping to settle down with didn’t turn out to be pregnant.

Starting over in a small town, Jean is determined to turn her wild lifestyle around and be the kind of mother she always wished she’d had. Since local bar owner and all round hottie, Eric, is now determined to steer clear of her pregnant self, it should be easy. When she goes into labor during a snowstorm and her car slides on some ice, however, it’s Eric who comes to the rescue.

There seems to be a bond between them now, but is it enough? And can Eric give up his manwhore ways to be the man Jean needs?

I have a love affair with Kylie Scott's writing. Her characters have this humorous, self-deprecating voice that just chimes with me. In Chaser we finally get Eric's story, who is Joe's brother, male main character of Twist. Back when I read Joe's book I was curious how the author will make me love the immature, self-absorbed man-ho Eric was portrayed as. I'm happy to report that Kylie Scott passed with flying colors.

Eric's friends have been really hard on him lately, telling him that he is irresponsible, unreliable and doesn't have anything else but women on his mind. The one person who harps on about his devil-may-care attitude is Nell, the woman he almost had a baby with. Not being taken seriously gets to him and he starts to look for ways to change the image his closest friends seem to have of him and it doesn't only have to do with the young single and very pregnant woman who just moved to Coer d'Alene. Although Jean is really sweet he needs to take it slow.

In the beginning he goes about it the wrong way and his attempt at a serious relationship with his fuckbuddy was hilarious. He realizes fast that you can't force a connection which seems so effortless with Jean. When Jean goes into labor and nobody else but Eric is available to be her birth partner a deeper connection builds between him and Jean but also, completely unexpectedly, with her newborn daughter, Ada.

Eric's growth throughout the story is phenomenal and completely believable. He has a couple of hickups along the way and sometimes needs to backtrack and readjust but it is obvious that he wants to change to become a better man. When Ada enters his life he falls head over heels in love with her. The way he was with her was adorable, funny and heartwarming. His love for his baby girl was so palpable. I fell in love with Eric, with his humor, his loyalty, his mellow, good-natured attitude and the way he stopped thinking about himself and started being considerate and thoughtful. His transformation from bad boy to dream man was beautiful.

Hell, I loved being the person she asked for help. Being the person she relied on, someone she trusted, felt damn good.

Jean was a likable heroine but - and this is my only quibble - we didn't get her thought process. I never could get a proper read on her so up to the end I didn't know Jean really well. I commend the author for doing a single male POV story but I had troubles warming up to Jean in a way that I wanted her as a friend. She just stayed a stranger to me. Maybe it was the author's intention that decisions Jean made were just as much a surprise for the reader as they were for Eric. I think it excludes the reader from Jean's own development and stopped me from falling in love with her along with Eric.

The person who really rubbed me the wrong way was Nell. Granted, she had a reason the way she was with Eric but, come on, give him a break! She said she loved her friend yet she never gave him a chance to prove that he meant that he wanted to change. When she insulted him for the umpteenth time I felt my head swell and get hot.

“You’ll screw up eventually, Eric. You can’t help it.” The venom in her voice . . . hell. I rocked back on my heels.
“You actually hate me, don’t you?”
“No, of course not,” she said. “But I’m wary of you. I know you too well to be anything else. And I don’t want you hanging around my friend who is young, alone, and vulnerable.”

This isn't the way somebody talks to a friend and as much as I felt sad for Nell in Twist I really hated her in Chaser.

This installment is pretty low in the angst department. I loved Eric's and Jean's friendship - trust had to be established first before it could lead to more so it's a slow burn. But I didn't mind at all - I loved their friendship so much! Eric's wise-cracks and quips are what make this story so incredibly enjoyable. He and Ada are the stars in Chaser. I loved to reconnect with Joe and Alex and we also get cameos from the Stage Dive series. Kylie Scott remains one of my favorites, I can't see that changing anytime soon.

“You look great as Morticia, babe. Just one question,” he said. “How am I supposed to drink anything with all this hair in my face?”
“I’ll put a straw in your drink and lead you around all night so you don’t bump into things. Don’t worry. I’ve thought this all out.”
I chuckled. “Beer through a straw. Way to go, Cousin Itt.”
“Shut up, Wednesday,” Joe growled. Or, at least, I think he did.

This was a sweet and fun read. I’m new to the Dive Bar series so those of you that haven’t read any of the other books in the series, like me, this is a complete standalone. Yes characters from previous books make an appearance, but it doesn’t take away from the story of Eric & Jean.

Eric is a partner in the ownership of the Dive Bar. He’s single and man does he like to mingle. He gets a lot of crap about it from everyone he knows and everyone he doesn’t know. He always has but lately it’s starting to bother him. He’s a sexy man, he’s got a lot going for him, and he’s smart. But he likes the attention, so what. Eric is kind and willing to do anything to help you out. Maybe it’s time for a break from the sex life for a bit, he’s thinking. So when a new single woman comes to town, umm hello, Eric is there to welcome her.

Jean is moving from Florida to start a new life, escape from the claws and disappointment she’s caused her family. She’s met a friend online that has helped her overcome some things and invited her to move to Nell’s town. Her first stop in town is the Dive Bar, where Nell works, and her first encounter is with the sexy as sin bartender Eric Collins. But she isn’t here for love, she’s starting over with a new life. So when she stands up to greet her friend Nell, Eric gets the first glimpse at her rocking 7 month pregnant belly. So will this deter Eric’s attraction to Jean or will he skip out and get back to mingling?

This story is about finding love when you at least expect it. It’s finding your happiness, your soul, and it’s a story about being yourself even when everyone else may be against you. It is predictable but I still liked it. The chemistry and sweetness was nice and overall I really enjoyed this book and enjoyed an all male POV 😇

5 Fab Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Kylie Scott is hands-down one of my absolute favorite romance authors.... she writes the most fabulous characters.... all with such amazing senses of humor and self awareness.... especially when it comes to her male characters... I think I’ve fallen in love with all of them and Eric is no exception.... this book was told entirely from the male point of view and I loved it.... I think the only thing I missed out on a little was getting to know Jean a bit better....

Eric is the player... he’s never been in a committed relationship.... and he is definitely not getting involved with seven months pregnant Jean, babies kind of scare him.... Eric’s inner dialogue throughout this entire book was quite hilarious.... I found his character development so wonderful and reel..... The friendship that develops between him and Jean was refreshing and his moments with baby Ada were quite adorable..... I love a good friends to lovers story and this one was perfection!

You can read this book as a standalone, although characters from the previous books are definitely involved... and bonus the StageDive boys make an appearance...and Mal was up to his same old shenanigans, loved that!

Strongly recommend to fans of romance, with fabulous characters, and a little fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

*** thank you to Kylie Scott, the publisher, and Net Galley for a copy of this book ***

This is definitely the best book in this series. I liked the first one, the second one pissed me off and I can't stand the couple from that book, but this one had a couple that I loved.
He is a reformed bad boy. Love that trope.
She is 7 months pregnant when they meet.
They end up neighbors and he ends up taking her to the hospital when she's in labor. He reacts in a completely reasonable way while he takes her into the emergency room:

"Help," I yelled. "Her water's broke."

(her): "Eric, calm down."

"I'm perfectly calm." I was not even remotely calm. "Somebody help!"

A middle-aged woman over at reception gave us a patient smile. Obviously completely misunderstanding the situation. Or she was on drugs. I don't want to be judgey, but it could be either. Jean was about to push out a kid, for god's sake. Maybe the woman needed some visuals.

Did you even look at the pregnancy books I gave you? Dumbass!

Eric and Jean become best friends, and even better is that Eric becomes besties with the baby, Ada. That is fricken adorable!

I lay on my back on the living room rug, a cushion beneath my head and Ada lying on my chest. The perfect way to chill when I had stuff on my mind....

Oh, I'm sorry, did your ovaries just explode?
Mine were already heading for the scrap heap from oldness, so I won't really miss them, but you might have use for yours at some point.

So, now we get another of my favorite tropes - friends to lovers, and it is sooo sweet and adorable and feel-goody that you may actually feel your ovaries come back to life again after the explosion.

Chaser was fantastic, the story was brilliant and the characters unique! If you have read this series before, you have already met Eric!I was so excited to read his book and see what Kylie has for him. Chaser is a romantic, sweet and funny story!

description

Kylie Scott did an amazing job with this one and especially with Eric's POV since the book is all in his point of view!I loved that Eric in the end he isn't the manwhore that everyone think! I loved that he grows up through the story! We can see how sweet, funny and lovely hero he is!The only reason this isn't a 5 stars is because the heroine wasn't as strong as I like my heroines in books but still this didn't make me not to enjoy the book!

Overall, it was a heartwarming story with one of the best male POVs I have ever read! This series is a must read you should definitely read them!

When it comes to my enjoyment of pornography romance novels, there are only a few things required for me to have an okay time:

1. A good cover;

2. A tired trope I approve of; and

3. Non-squicky sex. You know what I’m talking about – stuff NOT like this . . . .

Chaser gets an average rating due to the following:

1. The thumbnail of the cover looks like James Franco in Pineapple Express . . . . .

2. Tropey yum yum for me includes things like enemies to lovers/falling for the brother’s bestie/or the holy grail of them all – WOKE UP MARRIED TO A STRANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one featured . . . . .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE. I am fully aware of how much reality I leave at the doorstep when I read smut (I mean, I have been waiting for a sex-werewolf to show up at my door for like 15 years, but since it still hasn’t happened I’m starting to lose hope), but I just want to smack the already-pregnant-with-no-baby-daddy-in-the-picture broad who decides to start a new relationship. Not to mention the leading male in this third selection was introduced in the earlier books and simply put . . . .

And one with a whole lotta baggage I did not find smexy whatsoever to boot.

As for #3 – I read this one like a month ago so I don't remember all the deets, but I do know Kylie Scott writes the good sexuals so no complaints there. That’s why I’ll be first in line for whatever she releases next : )

I think this might be the end of Kylie Scott and me. I loved her early books, but the last few I haven't really connected with and I'm starting to feel like I'm picking on her when I don't enjoy a new book.

First things first, what I liked about this book and why it's a 3 star rating and not lower. Single mother trope, reformed bad boy trope, and the special appearance of Stage Dive. I liked that this book was from Eric's perspective because we got to see his growth, but I wish we had dual POV because Jean fell so flat as a character.

I didn't feel the connection between Jean and Eric, I felt more of a connection or bond that he had with her daughter. I really enjoyed his interactions with the baby. Nell ragging on him the whole book got on my nerves, but even more so when she suddenly changed her mind and was all Team Eric.

Also a pet peeve thing that probably doesn't bother other people but bugs the shit out of me, the author is writing American character but through this whole series has them referring to things with Australian or British terms. It takes me out of the book because people who grew up in the USA wouldn't say these terms unless raised with a strong British background. But, it's probably just me who is annoyed by that.

Anyways, this book was a great escape from reality, I think lots of readers will love it but it didn't really rock my world.

***IT'S ALIVE!!!***

Finding the right one…

I think love makes sense when you find the right one to share your heart with. Before the right one, you experiment. You test the waters, make mistakes, think it's love, decide it couldn't feel like this and decide it's just not worth it. Well, it’s different when you’re really in love. You BOTH do anything to make it work and it's never too hard. You’re pushing and pulling to get it right. In my case, sometimes he pushes me out of my comfort zone (which I HATE), and other times I’ll pull from him and take too much. But, in the end, I’ll pull his cord and he’ll push my buttons (OMG, I’m such a dirty bird) but it still comes back to the fact he lights my world and I turn him on...or so he tells me.

Eric hadn’t met the right woman for him until she walked into his bar. Well, she was right looking (besides the baby in her belly), she was the right personality (besides the baby in her belly) and the right attitude (besides the baby in her belly). Eric found the right woman…who was a wee bit occupied with the baby in her belly.

I’ve got to say, Kylie Scott gets blokes. Chaser was completely seen through Eric’s eyes. Sometimes, it can be hard having to gauge feelings and emotions from a hero. Eric, well, we know that he’s dealing with a lot of emotions but he’s completely manipulating things in his mind to lessen the blows.

This is how I see Eric and how he feels...

Guilt – "Well, I guess I shouldn't be trusted ever again"
Sorrow – "I don’t deserve pity for my loss because it’s my fault"
Affection – "I’m told I’m not a good bet in a relationship, so I should only offer friendship"

Eric keeps barriers up because he doesn’t trust himself to be everything that Jean and Ada need.

Then, he just accepts that he wants Jean and Ada. Fullstop...the end...this is how it's going to be.

Yep, Kylie Scott really gets blokes.

Obviously, Eric takes a wee while to come to that conclusion. While he gets there, we are treated to a fabulous story about a recovering manwhore who meets and falls for a young woman who’s pregnant and later becomes a mother to a beautiful baby girl.

I loved seeing the fun and games of having a newborn from the outside looking in. I could completely sympathise with the sleepless nights, worry about their health and wellbeing and stress over getting it right. There is no way in hell I’d go back and have more of those little hellions who scream blue murder if you DARE to have a shower. I do miss snuggles, cheeky, drooly grins and the beauty of looking down at your baby as they sleep peacefully in your arms. It was fun looking in but I’m happy to only observe.

I really enjoyed Chaser. It was funny, sweet and very believable. There is NO WAY a new mother wants to hook-up or start a relationship straight after childbirth. It takes time and a level of trust must be earned before things can move forward. Eric never rushes Jean and I loved him more for it. Chaser was paced extremely well. The heat doesn’t come until later in the book but it was perfect timing.

If you’re a Kylie Scott fan, you are going to love Chaser. She gets it right on so many fronts. I highly recommend.

This was defnitely my favorite out of the three, but it also frustrated me the most. Funny thing is, that it wasn't even the MC's that I wanted slap, but one of the sidecharacters.

Full review to come soon, but I did really enjoy this one and Eric is no my fav of the series....who would have thunk it :P

Oh and for those who want to know...yes Mal does make a very small appearance..as does Jimmy (my love)

There are many more exceptional and more rounded reviews than mine so please check them out and don't let me stop you from picking up the book. This is mostly notes rather than actual review.

My rating for this would have been much higher if it wasn't for the secondary characters. Though some of them meant well, almost all of them were of no help to Eric. And one in specific drove me crazy. I wanted to read her book when reading book 2 but now I don't even want to read her name. It drives me up the wall. Nell was easily the worst character in this and probably the worst I've read in a while. Her bitterness towards Eric really colours the tone of the book and I did not enjoy it whenever she popped up. We have established from the previous books that Eric is an irresponsible manwhore. But I don't get it, why call him a manwhore when his partners knew the score? He was always upfront with them about wanting sex and no commitments. It's not like he lied to them to get sex. He neglected his responsibilities but that just makes him immature. Nell is constantly belittling him, putting him down and threatening him to make him stay away from Jean. It just got on my nerves big time.

The actual romance between Eric and Jean was actually sweet. And slow. But it gave Eric time to grow and mature and generally become a better person. I would have loved it if we had more scenes between these two and the baby rather that all the secondary characters butting in, confusing Eric or trying to help him or scare him away. Eric and Jean might have been taking their own sweet time getting there but I enjoyed it.

All in all a great slow build romance with some really tooth-decaying sugar moments with Eric talking to baby Ada. Pure heartbreak.

Another great opening scene by Ms. Scott. We know the hero, Eric, from the previous books as a manwhore who can be carefree when it comes to money and work. So, when he hits on Jean the new girl in town it's fun to watch his reaction when he discovers she's pregnant. *gasp*

His gal pal, Nell, is especially hard on him about how immature he is with his life choices. She has her reasons which we know from the 2 previous books. Even though she thinks she is protecting Jean from Eric it did annoy me that Nell was constantly rubbing his face in his past life choices.

"You're just not boyfriend material."

Chaser is told from Eric's pov and we get to take the journey with him as he becomes a better version of his himself. He realizes he has the power within himself to change even if his friends weren't quite sure he'd be able to do it. Jean was the one person who wasn't judging Eric on his past and gave him the benefit of doubt.

"You're the whole package . . . funny, charming, handsome."

I really enjoyed watching Eric and Jean's relationship grow from friendship to lovers. The addition of Ada, Jean's baby, was so sweet. Nothing is more adorable than a man playing with a baby. Those moments between Eric and Ada melted my heart.

CHASER is set in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It’s set in the same universe as Dive & Twist. Fans of Kylie Scott are going to love continuing on in the Dive Bar series. You even get to see the guys from the Stage Dive series. On a side note... there was a mention of a beer that is local to my town (Ninaski beer). That was fun to read in a book.

Will I finish? Well, that's a big 'ol TBD. There's something nice about that idea since I am in 64% or so...but there's something unpalatable too...cause I'm so bored. And this story is, frankly, stupid.

I might be answering my own question here.

Everyone around Eric is a dick to Eric. I have kind of low tolerance for even those closest to us thinking they know exactly who we are and taking that as entitlement to be unkind. And that's what we have here. Besides that, Eric's not particularly interesting. He's shallow. Okay, fine. He's sexy, sure if you say so, but I say that hair has got to go cause I am not picturing anything but stringy long ass hair on my bartender. (AND I LIKE long hair. Hello, hair bands -> alternative/grunge. I even like it stringy.) But, like, Eric doesn't even get a second glance for my book boyfriend shelf. Because dull guys (sure he's kind of amusing) don't do it for me. I'd rather he a jackass. *Throws up hands*

I've become distracted. Where was I? Oh, no big if Eric's kind of dull, but it's all from his POV of view and Jean is some weird, young accidentally pregnant cardboard cutout who, for the life of me, I cannot invest in to understand. Or if I do, I come to same bitchy conclusion that Jean is just your run-of-the-mill idiot.
1. She moved across the country for an internet pregnant friend. (I 'love' you all, but I'll not be moving so we can hold hands and read books anytime soon. Maybe there's a bit more going on here, but see above where I said "I don't care" I don't. And if there's certain situations for her backstory...it actually makes her...more of an idiot!
2. She help a drunk, virtual stranger into his apartment XX months pregnant. There's a lot of reasons you don't stop for the drunk guy in the hallway. I don't stop to give men directions on my runs. "I'm sorry I can't stop." We don't need to take care of them. In fact, let's not. (I do feel like a bitch sometimes. One day it was really cold. But, that's my policy. I don't change it). Obviously you don't do this not pregnant either but...
3. A lot of other things. I just don't buy her. I can't list them anymore. There's too many.

But the final straw for me was when I really couldn't understand her. Sure, do I have some control issues? Maybe. What exactly is this woman's plan. I don't understand her plan. She's caring for an infant, and I heard nothing of her plan. I am starting to think she fell into her plan: Eric. Cause her only plan was running away from her parents who wanted her to give the baby up for adoption. To her internet friend. Anyway, babe's 2? months old, she decides she misses sex. I mean, I wasn't 22 when I had my babies, but I was human. I think to feel human...you know try to jump back in the saddle. not that I'm judging by any stretch (GOOD for you, everyone, whatever your gig is!) but the idea of taking a shower is a lot of after childbirth and giving up that time where something could happen...layer foreplay (ahem, necessary post-birth, these are just facts), expectations, your own changes it was hard enough for me with a committed, loving relationship....WHO HAS THE TIME? and I mean, she'd have a lot of stress...cause from what I can tell she's entirely plan-free for her and her child's life. So obviously the baby feels like a stupid prop to make Eric seems like a legit human. I don't know. I guess I don't care!

but yes, let's sign up for the friends-with-benefits thing. I mean, I really truly mean this, as a single mother...more power to you if you can find the time and desire when your child is just turning the corner out of the newborn stage. I, frankly, just feel like I'd probably fall in love with a billionaire first. THAT's how unrealistic I find this. I know I'm reading romance. And sometimes the fantasy should feel like fantasy. This one just feels weird. Also, I'm neurotic and had trouble leaving my kids-with anyone... But, obviously Jean is some kind of 22 year old natural, just doing it on her own, looking for sex, not worried about who is watching the baby.

Really sorry that this ended up in your feed....ahem. I just had a feeling about this one. And it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Unfortunately, a few weak performances later and it's time for Kylie Scott to enjoy my back burner.

Chaser is hilarious. Mainly due to Erik. He is a child trapped inside a man. His inner dialog is just hilarious. I am so happy to finally be able to finish this series. Miss Scott done herself with Chaser.

The story is about Erik and his new neighbour. Pregnant neighbour, Jean. During snow storm, Erik assisted Jean in delivering Ada. It was hilarious and sweet at the same time.

I am glad Erik came to his senses at the end and get his HEA.

Title: Chaser ( Dive Bar, #3)
Author: Kylie Scott
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication date: April 17, 2018

ARC

There is a reason why I love Kylie Scott's books. You never know what you're going to get when you read her books. If you've read the Dive Bar series before, you know the type of guy Eric is- A prime example of self-absorbed, fun loving, no commitment, seriously good looking (Not fair!) guy. I was a little apprehensive about reading Eric's story, I mean, he's fun for a secondary character but the lead? nah... well, A thousand apologies Kylie. You've made me shut my opinionated mouth hahaha. Remember that saying? Don't judge a book by it's cover? Ladies, I'd like you to meet Eric Collins.
I have a very strong feeling you are going to love this man just as much as I did.

I absolutely enjoyed reading Chaser..I loved the pace of the book! It felt very realistic. I felt really bad for Eric because I really didn't like the way everyone jumped into conclusion and judged him for his past reputation without giving him a second chance. I especially despised Nell in this book (I know! Totally unexpected).
I will say this, This book isn't bombarded with angst and passion that's unrealistic... it's a slow pace- get to know me-Friends first, maybe? kind of book. There were some hilarious moment in this book like the first time Eric held the baby (I admit I cackled like a crazy person because that scene was so funny!).

I loved reading Eric and Jean's story unfurl right in front of my eyes- it was sweet, calming, supportive, witty and let's be honest, HOT!

I am going to put this out there and say it- I think Eric has become my favourite from this series. Why you ask? Because I loved his non-flashy way of loving and support Jean and her baby. Don't get me wrong, he was romantic AF but in the most unconventional way and I love him more for that.
I highly recommend Chaser to you, I know you will enjoy reading it.

Remember Eric? He got up to all sorts of shenanigans in Twist that actually turned out okay in the end but he has a very mischevious side to him that is revealed more in this story.

Eric lives above the Dive Bar that he co owns with Lydia and Nell in his recently refurbished apartment. He has a bit of a love/hate thing with Nell and they often butt heads on just about everything. They have a bit of history together and as a result of this Nell has a very low opinion of Eric. To be honest, I think that she was really harsh on him and wanted to jump in and defend his honor, lol!

Eric does have a bit of a reputation with the ladies and it’s hard to shake a lifetime habit that he actually enjoys – casual sex with beautiful girls. When a gorgeous babe comes into the bar one night he is on high alert. He is particularly attracted to her impressive rack and gorgeous curves.

‘It’s like I always say: life is like taking off a girl’s bra. You never know exactly what you’re gonna get, but however it turns out, it’s basically awesome.’

Needless to say he is shocked to find out that not only is Jean a good friend of Nell’s, she is also pregnant and about to move into the apartment next to his. Talk about a mind fuck. Putting all of that aside though, this is the first time that Eric has felt such a strong connection to a woman and he can’t really stop thinking about her.

Thus begins a friendship of sorts which then gets more up close and personal when Eric is the one Jean leans on when she goes into labour. Eric finds himself in situations and doing things he never he imagined he would. He has this urge to help & protect both Jean and her new baby.

I loved watching this story unfold and how Eric emerged from manwhore to who he is when he is with Jean. This is a story that was filled lots of ‘awww’ moments and left me with warm fuzzy feelings in my heart.

This book has been gifted by the author but it had no influence on my willing and always honest review.

4 stars

This book was quick, easy and fun to read.

This review contains spoilers if you haven’t read the other books of the series. It’s best to be read in order even if you could read it as a standalone without being too lost.

Characters:

Eric. Bartender and part owner of The Dive bar and restaurant. Womanizer. Easy on the eyes and smooth talker he has a way with women. He also has never committed to someone and had accidentally made his friend Nell pregnant while she was on a break with Pat.

She lost the baby in an accident and is back with Pat pregnant again.

To say she holds a grudge against Eric would be the understatement of the year!

She is on his back all the time berating him and telling Eric basically that he is useless and shying from his responsibilities.

Jean. She just arrived heavily pregnant from a one-night stand. Her parents have rejected her as she refused to have an abortion or give the baby away for adoption.

Jean is young and a little bit lost.

Relationship

From the first time Eric laid his eyes on Jean she’s occupied his thoughts.

Yes Eric is offended by Nell’s comments about his inability to commit and be serious at work and outside of work. He is determined to prove them all wrong and is dead set on having a girlfriend. Or go on an abstinence journey.

Soon enough Eric will hang out with Jean in a totally sexless relationship. She’ll be his first real female friend.

I’m not telling more about the plot.

It’s not a complicated story but I loved the family feel. We have a tight knit bunch of friends bickering and having each other’s back. Jean will find the support of great people with Eric’s friends and family.

I also loved Kylie’s kind of humor as Eric’s inner dialogs were downright funny! Or the banter between the different characters. It volleyed back and forth between these friends and family and gave a warm cozy yet humorous feeling.

“That’s right,” I said. “To even suggest that we would pout is an affront to our masculinity.” “Yeah.” I nodded. “What he said.” “Everyone knows brooding is very manly. Lots of testosterone involved.” “Especially when I do it,” I added. “The word you were looking for was probably ‘smoldering.’”

It was really pleasing to witness Eric’s character development. He may have been thirty he was still immature chasing his pleasure consequences be damned.

Eric at the beginning of the story:

“Your attention span makes a gnat look gargantuan.”

But Jean’s appearance and Nell’s comments changed it all!

It was fun, light, sweet with no dead moments.

Have you read it? Or any other of her books.

Thanks for reading.

However Nelle is the biggest judgemental opinionated bitch I’ve ever seen. She’s nobody’s friend!
I understand Eric and her had history, but did Eric get her pregnant by himself? Or did he ask her to cheat on her husband (I can’t remember if she was divorced, separated or what, and I frankly don’t care at this point)?
NOTHING justifies her hostile behaviour towards Eric, unless we bring in her own guilt into the calculation. Which was never addressed!
*****
I need some reliable reviews to confirm that this is a palatable book.

I don’t have an issue with a reformed manwhore if it rings true AND IF they’re NOT paired with a virgin.

I’d like to read it if there was a true character growth and if the promise of heroine with wild past lives up to its standards.

Also someone mentioned something about a fuckbuddy so I’d like to know safety too.

“Sweetheart, I’m pretty much wrapped around your finger.”

YASSS! Eric finally gets his happily ever after! Full of hilarity and heart, CHASER was an amazing addition to Kylie Scott’s addicting and sexy Dive Bar Series! I couldn’t have imagined a more sweeter romance for Eric and Jean. These two were SO DAMN GREAT together. Be warned, this was no instant gratification love story. This was a slow-burn romance that hit all the right buttons. It will leave you wanting for days. I finished this book a few days ago and I’m still jonesing for more of these wonderful characters. Bad boy bartender falls HARD for a pregnant woman looking for a fresh start? What could go wrong? Oh, you have no idea. Sweet, sexy, hilarious, and emotional, Ms. Scott gives us a unique romance that you’ll be thinking about long after the last page has turned. I couldn’t put it down! I’m SO excited to see what Kylie brings us next!

The Good
Eric is a charming rogue and he sold this romance all by himself. The story is told strictly from his POV and, while I missed hearing from Jean, I think Eric is funny enough and charming enough to make this work. I have a soft spot for loveable rogues, because their emotional journeys can be so satisfying when done well. Eric has spent quite a bit of time being the self-involved asshat of the group, so I wasn’t sure if it would work, but seeing him try to be a better man (without losing his personality in the process) was fun.

The Bad
That first person POV isn’t easy and sometimes, especially here, left me wanting to get into Jean’s head and know what she was thinking. It wasn’t especially clear and while I was convinced of Eric’s love for her, I wanted to be as sure of her feelings for him. But this is a personal preference of mine. I know plenty of readers who love first person POV, and from that perspective, I think Eric is a solid character.

Everything in Between
This can work as a standalone, though you’ll miss out on alot of the developments between the friends and the reasons Eric gets ALOT of shyte from them, especially Nell. If you haven’t read the earlier books, let’s just say if there was one person who has solid reasons for getting on his case, it’s Nell. Frankly, he’s earned all of their doubt, so I didn’t have a problem with it. I think it was an effective way to get a longtime reader like myself on his side, because he needed some humbling moments to make up for his selfishness in previous books.

So far, this is my favorite Dive Bar novel, and trust when I say I wasn’t expecting that. I still adore the Stage Dive series with one of my OG BBFs, Mal in it. If you like Mal’s personality type for a book-boyfriend, I think you’ll love Eric and Jean’s romance. I know I did.

I feel like my review of book two in the Dive Bar series said something like, 'rah rah I've never given Scott less than four, sunshine, unicorns, I love her books' and here I am stamping this with a not-a-four. CHASER was easily my least favourite book in this series because almost all the supporting characters pissed me off. Mainly Nell.

Eric isn't the most mature, responsible, or mature and responsible man, but everyone treated him horribly. I just wanted to give the guy a hug. He wasn't deep or overly enlightened. He was a guy who always liked having a good time, but not a long time, with women. He liked to dress well. He took pride in his job. Kept close with his brother and friends. And that's all he needed in life. And the moment he started to think beyond that, maybe wanting more? Scorn. Disbelief. Jokes. It made me sad. Eric is a character that has really earned his happily ever after because he proved everyone wrong without changing the fundamental aspects of his character. He's still hardworking, still likes looking good, is caring and kind to those he loves.. and all that still allows him to make room for a relationship and a little one. As it should.

I liked Jean but I mean she was never meant to be anything but likeable and sympathetic. I appreciated her insecurities post-baby but honestly she was a little bit cookie cutter and not as interesting as Eric. That being said, miraculously this is one of the few books about babies/kids that didn't give me hives. Scott gave us a great mom/baby dynamic that was both adorable and realistic.

I'm sad this wasn't as much a winner for me as past books in the series (hell, even the tiny Stage Dive character cameos were annoying, what is up with all that) but I'm happy enough about Eric that it wasn't a total disappointment.

3.5-4 ★'s

I have to be honest, Eric's book wasn't one I was looking forward to and if you've read any of the books of the series, you can understand why. But since I always pull for the underdog, I decide to give it a go.

And for the most part, Eric did me proud. He definitely wasn't the problem. Instead, the author turns things around on the other characters and especially Nell...WTH? I really hate when that happens to a ~somewhat~ favorite character.

But Nell is the reason that Jean moves to town...and moves into the apartment next door to Eric. When Eric first meets her, he's already thinking about taking a break from all his manwhore ways and when he sees that she's seven months pregnant, he knows nothing will be going on there.

description

Instead, they become friends...a novel concept to Eric. The funniest parts was reading about how Eric couldn't understand what he was feeling and how it affected him.

Jean was okay. I was a little shocked at how forward she was and I felt that the draw for Eric was more of a two-fer and we didn't get the full effect of just him and Jean.

I loved seeing Eric's family side and how close they all really are. And his "relationship" with Ada was beyond sweet. It was great to see him finally grow up.

We're back in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to finally witness the Happily Ever After of Eric and ... Jean?

description

Eric. We all remember him as the manwhore idiot who didn't really have a plan for his life.

He owns the bar with Nell and Lydia and he shows up for work on time. But people still don't trust him. His friends and family think he only lives for one-night stands and a fun time.

But he doesn't. Not anymore. He's been thinking of getting a real girlfriend!!! Yup.

But then Jean shows up in town and moves in next door. He's immediately attracted and interested... but she's kinda hugely pregnant. And he's not really yet gotten over Nell losing their baby last year.

But he also can't get Jean out of his head.....

Can he be only friends with a cute girl and her baby?

What will happen with Eric and Jean?
Will there be a HEA for the 3 of them??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

Book #3 in this great series!

And it was just as cute as the other 2!
We meet all the others again - Joe, Vaughn, Pat, Nell ... and even Mal ☺...

And we're back in the bar, of course.
Eric is part owner. And he loves his bar and his job as sexy barkeeper.☺

description

I SAID SEXY BARKEEPER ☺

description

But he doesn't love his life anymore. Not the way he's been living it for so long now. He wants something new, different. But a mother? He wanted change, but not that fast and that much. But he just can't stay away from Jean. So adorable!!!

The poor guy. He wants to prove to all his friends and family that he can be a real adult and that he can be trusted. But mostly he has to prove it to himself.

I really enjoyed reading this book!
It was such an adorable romance. Funny, cute, a bit moving and heartbreaking. I just loved those cute Eric & baby moments!

I wouldn't mind seeing the bar and everybody on TV one day!

Great Characters. Not much drama. Lots of funny moments and some sexy moments.
Great, sweet Romance.

I really loved it! Eric is amazing. He's trying so hard - but nobody believes in him. But of course we know that he'll prove them all wrong in the end! ☺

CHASER was such an adorable & sweet & moving romance! About a guy who is finally ready to grow up and CHASE his happily ever after. Run to your nearest amazon for your very own Eric - this one is MINE!!! Even though I could do without the ponytail!☺

A tiny little thing that bothered me a bit. Why did Jean move to Idaho? Yes, she knows Nell from talking online. BUT?! She doesn't have a job, a career? What did she go to college for? Does she have any plans for her future? Nothing was mentioned about that at all. A bit weird.

Also, Nell ... I hated her a lot with the way she acted towards our poor Eric. She got better, but only in the very end of the book. She was really mean!

But still ... adorable book. READ IT!

I enjoyed this book. I 've been dying for Eric to get his HEA since the first book in this series. I know that he is wild and a bit of manwhore, but I luv him in this book. The way he was with Ada just melted my heart. Even the way he was with Jean was so cute. With not seeing this side of Eric if was as great surprise and just made him even more sexier. I really think he tried so hard to change his ways in this book to just have people call him out of everything. I felt so sorry for him in parts. I know loads of people are goin to not agree with me on this but Nell really annoyed me. She gave Eric such a hard time. I know they have history together with what happened between them but they were once close friends she could of been a lil more nicer to him. She just didn't give him 5 mins throughout the whole book. It made me not like her and I luvd her in the last book.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

I really liked Jean she is such a strong woman to do what she did. She moved and didnt know many people plus she is pregnant. The way she dealt with everything was so good. She could of just been a mess over the over thing but no she was brilliant through everuthing. You could see that she liked Eric from the start and that she didn't really listen to what people had told her. She knew what he was like but she was goin to see if he was like what people had told her. I liked that she gave him a chance when people were putting doubt in her head.

Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

I liked this story but I don't think it was has good as the last to books. I luvd the relationship between Jean and Eric. But I didn't like the way everyone out Eric down. I know that he hasn't been the best guys but he has been through crap to and they should understand that. I m just glad that he had Jean and Ada. I would recommend this book cause Eric and Jean are great but I found parts of the story a lil annoying. But overall I enjoyed it I just wanted more. It kills me to say that cause I really luv this author and have luvd this series.

4.5 “Eric 2.0” “happy place” “Sweetheart” Kisses

Welp…the amazingness that is Kylie Scott just hijacked my brain for the day and I am so in love with everything I just read. I seriously didn’t even realize until after I finished Chaser that its been just over a year since I read Twist …and gah, it was absolutely worth the wait. I was so excited to get back into the Dive Bar world…I have loved both Dirty and Twist…and with everything that happened in Twist with Eric, I was intrigued to see what Kylie was going to do with him. That being said…technically, each book can be read as a standalone – everything that happens is completely explained, so it never gets confusing, but speaking as a series whore and a ginormous lover of Kylie’s books, I totally recommend reading them in order because holy banana’s, they’re some of my favorite books.

Eric Collins…oh my sex-on-a-stick bartender, what to do with this man? Eric is…honestly, a hot mess. He has been from the beginning…it got pretty messy in Twist, and that was a little painful, but I felt like Chaser was his chance at redemption and that excited me. At first…I didn’t know if I was going to like him – he is still Eric after all and miracles don’t happen overnight…there is a lot of work to be done…but it was worth the effort and the hesitation over wondering if I was going to like him evaporated pretty quickly. In fact, I went from liking him to loving him quicker then I could snap my fingers (or at least it felt like that to me) – not that I’m complaining. I should have known falling for Eric was only a matter of time…he’s a manwhore – and I have a bad weakness for manwhores, so it was clearly inevitable. But I was not only happy to experience Eric’s transformation, I was proud…he did have the desire to change, he didn’t want to continue the same cycle and watching him put forth the effort to better himself and work for the girl he wanted was as rewarding as it was refreshing. Plus a girl like Jean is worth it…

“We would have had fun together.”
“You think so?”
“I know so.”
“You’re that good, huh?”
Eyelids closed, I smiled some more. “Our chemistry is that good.”
“Hmm.”
“You know when you meet someone and there’s just that feeling?”
She didn’t respond.
“It’s like it’s fate. There’s just that zap in the air and you know it’s got to happen eventually. And when it does, it’s going to be spectacular.” I opened one eye, beyond pleased to see her trying to hide a smile. “Right, Jean?”

Jean Antal…my brave, sweet girl – it takes a special kind of woman to pack up their life, move to thousands of miles away from home, by herself, and very pregnant. Shoot…I can’t imagine doing that on my own, let alone when you’re about to be a single mother….Jean has some huge lady balls and I give her mad props. With both of the previous Dive Bar books, they’re told from the female POV, this is the first book where we are solely in the males head – which I’m not knocking Eric, but I loved Jean so much…I really wanna get in that girls brain! Especially with everything that happens to her…not only with Eric, but her friendship with Nell, her relationship with her parents, her adjustment to being a single mom in a new town…I can think of about a million things that I wanna know about her. I think she is fascinating, strong, genuine, sweet and one of a kind – it’s easy to see how she caught the attention of the ultimate manwhore.

‘Jean and Ada were the best things to happen to me in a long time. Being with them made me feel good, gave me a purpose. They made me want to be better, to do better. No messing around, no sex or anything to make things confused. I was going to be someone they could both rely upon if it killed me.
Decision made.’

Eric and Jean are my slow burn dream come true and I couldn’t get enough. I loved that they developed a friendship first…they were best friends, they really got to know each other, trust each other, depend on each other…it created such a deep and pure bond that I loved to bits even before they got the slightest bit romantic. He loved being there for her…I think it was because he’d never had anyone in his life that really relied on him and Jean put her faith in Eric. There was also Ada – watching Eric bond and fall in love with Jean’s daughter was almost as amazing as watching him fall in love with Jean…it was really close because the connection he has with Ada is beyond adorable. What Eric and Jean have is so incredibly special and unique and I adored every single moment of their love story.

‘“Need a hug?”
“Yes, please.”
Next thing I knew, her face was pressed against my chest and her arms were around my waist. I wrapped her up tight, giving as good as I got. Not thinking about the way her curves fit against me, because wrong. Friends didn’t do that. I rested my cheek against the top of her head, nudging her messy bun out of the way. Affection with your clothes on could actually be worthwhile. Incredible.’

Kylie Scott is a special addiction of mine…I can say with full assurance that I will never get tired of reading her books. There is something about her style of writing that speaks to me on a level like no other author can. I adore her writing…it’s so much more than love, the way that her words speak to me, the way she incorporate humor and sarcasm, how easily and quickly her characters worm their way into my heart…it’s something I’ll never get tired of. It’s happened frequently enough for me to know it’s more than a pattern…it’s just a fact – the grass is green, the sky is blue and Kylie Scott’s book are fucking amazing and I love her words. It’s this perfect balance that I love experiencing from her…angst that makes my heart race, all the emotions I could ever want, characters that are beyond perfection, dry humor that makes me giggle, delivered effortlessly with exceptional writing that takes me on an unforgettable journey.

‘World? Gone. Body? Gone too.
It was like there was just me and Jean. Our essences floating around the cosmos or something. Don’t get me wrong, never in my life had I been the least bit fucking spiritual. But sex with Jean seemed to take me to a whole other level. Heaven. Nirvana. Call it what you like.’

I was a teeny tiny bit afraid of what might happen at the end…I dunno why, because I should always trust in the genius that is Kylie Scott…but still, my tender heart was worried. I was so invested in Jean and Eric and after everything I wanted to protect the fragile amazing connection they had. My worry and fear was unnecessary because in usual Kylie fashion she pulled off a smooth, perfectly executed ending that fit so well with Eric and Jean. There were plenty of opportunities for drama for the sake of drama and I’m beyond thankful that’s not the direction it went in. I never saw the way she executed the ending coming but it was beyond-words-perfect….loved it to death. And OMFG that epilogue! Perfection…cherry on top of a perfect Dive Bar sundae that left me with a huge smile I couldn’t even try to wipe off my face. I'm aware that I've said the word perfect about eleventy million times but I don't feel like any other word can do the book justice. A part of me is sad that the Dive Bar Series is over…just like the Stage Dive Series, these characters have embedded themselves into my heart and I don’t want to say goodbye. Which…speaking of the Stage Dive Series – I LOVED the cameo by all of the guys from the band! I hate to play favorites but Mal was spectacular as always :-) Chaser was a fantastic way to end the series and I could never be upset about that. Lydia and Vaughn, Alex and Joe and Eric and Jean are forever imprinted on my heart...my heart is full from all the Dive Bar love. #DiveBarAddict

Chaser was the third book in the Dive Bar series by Kylie Scott.

Eric Collins was the co-owner of the Dive Bar. He was gorgeous, reckless, a flirt, pretty shallow and a total playboy. He wasn’t taken seriously by anyone. Relationships weren’t his thing and he was the master of one night stands.

Jean Antal was new to town. She was pregnant and preparing to be a single mom. She left her old life for a fresh new beginning.

Eric and Jean met on her first night in town. The chemistry was off the charts, although the situation was anything but ideal. Neither pursued it for obvious reasons. Instead, Scott took us on a journey of friendship, reflection, sleepless nights with a new born and a new perspective.

It was an interesting and entertaining read. Although enjoyable, it was a little slow for me at times. Nothing earth shattering, but I was craving a little more.

True to form, Scott included cameos of past characters not only from this series, but also from the original series, Stage Dive. It’s always entertaining and fun to catch up with past favs.

Although it hasn’t been revealed yet, it appears Andre’ may be next up with a promise for an exciting tale. Regardless, I look forward to where Scott takes us next.

This is third in a series and the characters from the others feature strongly here. On the one hand, I'd say that's a positive so read in order. In this case, I'm not so sure knowing the depths of his immaturity is helpful at all.

Eric is an immature player who has been a marplot in the other two stories. He's shallow and a jerk, so when I saw he was going to head up this story, I was concerned. Rightly so, I think. Scott doesn't run away from any of that or try to rewrite his actual moral fiber as anything other than shallow and self-involved. Which is good because that'd be lazy. And also bad because ouch.

The story starts with him feeling all bad because people distrust him and don't take him seriously. And he has to admit that he's earned it, so he makes a couple blind stabs at being/doing better. Which was at least a bit interesting, particularly as a pregnant single mom moves in next door and he kind of likes her, in more than just that way.

So humanizing him took front and center and we get maybe 15% of a story of him screwing up to show his starting point and then maybe half a novel of him making some improvements and becoming Jean's friend. Which I was mostly there for, even though we're in his PoV and can see that he's still at the start of a journey and not really great at it.

It doesn't help that Jean is on the edge of the squick formula* for Eric (being only twenty-two to his nearly thirty). Yes, she is waaaaaay more mature than he is, but that's not exactly a high bar to clear. But it rubs me entirely wrong when I recall that she's as vulnerable as she is and he's as careless as he is (however much better than at his starting point of negative a million).

And then we get to a stupid that I couldn't get past. I get that .

And it doesn't help that I'm anticipating another stupid dark moment. Each story in the series so far has had a poorly-supported dark moment and I was hoping this one wouldn't. But the patterns are all there. And I'm not interested in getting to it. Jean is too vulnerable. And Eric is too careless. And I won't be able to forgive him for it because the chances of it being really lame are too high.

So I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and give a second star to acknowledge that there's an "ahead" to quit from.

* Squick Formula: The formula is oldest divided in half and add seven and it's pretty good until you get to the edges. In this case, if we call Eric 30 then the youngest he can date without a squick violation is 30 / 2 = 15 + 7 = 22. Which is Jean's age.
