Dylan moved to the east coast to attend school at a notable architecture program. Life is not easy for a nineteen-year-old freshman who’s trying to find his own identity. When he meets Jay, his handsome and rugged professor, Dylan finds the only person who believes in him. Their student-professor relationship blossoms into something much more than he intended. When Dylan's classmates find out how talented he is, they are quick to outcast him. With all this pressure, Dylan wonders if it’s better to leave it all behind to go back to the comfort of his hometown.
“Passion or profession, what do I choose?”
At the age of forty-four, Jay has built his own way to fame and fortune. Jay's name is a staple in the architecture world. His work is featured in countless magazines. He is also a well-respected professor in the architecture school. With his recent divorce and custody battle, all he has left is his love for inspiring young minds. That is until he meets Dylan. In all his years of teaching, Jay has never been more impressed by a student’s talent. When they enter in a design competition together, Jay can’t help but fall hard for him.
“Against all odds, can we make it together?”
With the pressure put on by his classmates, is Dylan willing to push past the pain to stay and be with Jay? And with his career in jeopardy because of this forbidden love affair, is Jay willing to risk it all to be with Dylan?
Jay to December is the first book in the Men of the Atlantic series about sexy men searching for love in the stormy coastal landscape. This standalone novel has a May-December theme with no cheating, no cliff-hangers, and a guaranteed HEA.
I had a hard time with this book. Something about the relationship between Dylan and Jay felt off to me and I'm not sure that I can explain why. Jay recognized that having a relationship with a student was ethically questionable, but his pursuit of Dylan seemed to be completely selfish and dismissive of the ethical questions around it - until he was faced with the consequences of his actions where he made a Grand Gesture for Dylan and that was supposed to make everything ok.
I also felt like the author was trying to make their relationship more complicated than it needed to be. The narrative indicated nothing more than a May-December romance, but there were occasional descriptions thrown in that we were also supposed to see them having a D/s relationship as well (though I just didn't see it).
Then, on top of all of that, I will freely admit that I am not familiar with all of the skills that architects generally have, but is it reasonable to expect: (1) Dylan and Jay to be able to design their dream home completely in only a couple of hours, (2) have just the two of them build the entire structure during the middle of a Halifax winter - the only thing that a contractor did was demolish the old structure and lay the new foundation, (3) once their new home is built, they then proceed to make all of their own furniture?
Overall, I thought that this book had a lot of potential, but failed on several points to live up to that potential.
I love May/December romances, but the thing that makes them work is the maturity level of both parties involved. Dylan was just way too immature, IMO. He waffles back and forth about whether to even stay at school - at one point the two profess their love on one page and then Dylan is leaving a couple of pages later. The biggest drawback for me was that sex was the cure-all for almost every problem. I would've liked a bit more actual relationship building in order to feel that these two really were in love. I finished the book unsure of how I feel about Jay. I liked the character in the beginning, but at several points in the story, he seemed condescending and dictatorial. At times the relationship felt more father/son than May/December, which was a bit of an ick factor for me. I do like this author's writing style and will check out other books, this one just missed the mark for me.
I loved the book but I also noticed some things that could make the book better other than a little editing. I really did love this book though. May/December books are fun to read and Candice Blake did a good job at it. I liked that Jay despite being famous is just an introvert at heart and can tell when people are just sucking up to him. Dylan having so much talent that people were jealous of him... I wish he had at least one moment to stand up for himself.
Jay being the older one in this relationship really should have known that lube is better than just spit. He passes stores when he drives I am sure, so why he never picks up any I have no clue. There was a lot missing with Dylan's story... he went to school so far away because he wanted to be himself... but at no point in the story did we really find out how his parents reacted when he gathered the courage to tell them. Jay's ex; what did she do when she found out about Jay and Dylan being together? She was a brag to the highest degree but we never saw her reaction.

It's my personal opinion that the stilted and awkward feel throughout the entire book probably, and ironically, comes from the alternating first person narration. While the formula works for some stories, in this case, it doesn't. It provides further distance. The chapters are too short and impersonal. The professor is rather selfish and concentrated only on what he wants and sees as right. Not that he's a bad guy. And Dylan's a spineless but talented guy. This is not an all bad book. It simply did not reach its full potential.
this was a very interesting story.. i love the older man/younger man combo... it was fun to see them get to know each other and see how it went and what happened... it was a fun read and sexy and im glad i got to review it
This is an enjoyable book that leaves you feeling good. Dylan is a young man with low self esteem and has difficulty making friends. Dylan however is gifted at what he does. Jay is the professor that sees Dylan's worth not just on the course but as a man. They begin to work on a competition together and then the attraction is evident. Will their love be enough? Will they both be prepared to do what is needed to make this work? This book is a good read and I would definitely read works from this author again. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
A professor and his student meet, fall in love, and are forced to make difficult decisions. The easiest choice is wether or not to let love overcome all the other obstacles they were facing. HEA with love triumphing over jealousy and hate!
While reading this book I wasn't sure I was enjoying it or not. At different points I found Jay just too domineering for Dylan. Even the first time they were together it was all about Jay getting off which again I found wrong.
I found Jay selfish as well. Everything on his terms. Dylan was just too young and new to being gay to know any better. And I felt Jay just took advantage of that. He was very possessive and got jealous quickly.
The whole story kind of felt rushed and whether that swayed my take on their relationship I am not sure as I know designing and creating their house would have taken a long time but again that all happened quickly.
The fact Dylan's parents didn't get a mention in this whole story until pretty much the end also seemed weird because you know they would have had issues with this scenario actually happening. Not so much the gay side of things but the fact Jay is so much older and was his professor at the time. Yes they most probably would come around but still.
Even Jays exwife didn't get mentioned finding out that Jay was with Dylan and allowing their boys to be with them. I mean look how she was in the divorce negotiations about the property she wanted and keeping the boys away from Jay for a couple of month's so I can't imagine her being very happy knowing her husband was now with another guy.
I thought the times they were together was very hot and they did seem to have nice chemistry together and yes I am glad they did find their HEA. I have read a number of age gap books and loved them but this one just didn't quite sit with me very well which was a shame.
✔ Letto! Jay e Dylan. Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ e 💋
I really liked the story and how they instantly found each other. And when it came down to it they were happy and nobody was going to tear them apart. Thank you for writing such a good book. I will buy the next one. You can bet on it!
I wanted something light and entertaining and this book delivered in that. I wish the characters and storyline were more developed but I was still able to get through the book.
I wanted this story to be awesome because I really like the actual storyline. I liked the characters but feel that I never really got to know them. This is the story of a 19-year old prodigy architectural student, Dylan, who has traveled to a specialty college far from his home to focus on the study of architecture. He has an immediate visceral attraction to his 44 year old architectural history professor but hates history and in fact dislikes academics. He is socially awkward and we do come to better understand this within the context of the story. Dylan does likes design and drawing, particularly on the computer. We don't every really learn much about Jay's family and one must wonder if he misses the normal connections of friends and family.
The professor, Jay, is in the middle of a contentious divorce and custody battle. He is extremely impressed with the pre-admission profile of one of his incoming freshman students and discovers that the student is the young looking student that he noticed in his history class; the one who appears to have absolutely no level of engagement with the class and rarely even shows up.
The professor has had limited same-sex experience and doesn't consider himself bi-sexual but he is certainly attracted to this young student and he later finds that the attraction is more than mutual.
So far so good. The development of the sex scenes was rudimentary and some of the interactions between main characters were contextually immature as well.
As the story developed there were very good scenes and some that just needed more development. I liked the story very much and I found myself wishing that this author, with great potential, had a strong editor.
Dylan is a 19 year old who's left home for the first time. He has been so deep in the closet that he has to figure out who he truly is.
Jay the professor is going through a divorce and missing his kids. He ex wants his farm so she seems to be using the kids to get him to sign the papers.
Jay knows about each student and has been fascinated by Dylan. When he took them up to the roof he didn't know Dylan was scared of heights and had to save him from falling. Embracing Dylan stirred feelings in him that he hadn't felt in decades.
Dylan feeling like an outsider embraces the friendship with the professor to work on a competition project, the two began a relationship that must be secret too. When they are caught kissing by Christian the secret is out.
Not knowing what to do with this Jay makes a decision. Dylan also makes a decision after being tired of feeling like an outcast. Do they get their happy ever after? You have to read the book to see.
I do wish we had a little bit more background on the professor when he talks about the last time he kissed a man. After being married it may have helped understand the feelings he claimed to be missing with his wife and why she left him.
I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this story by new to me author Candice Blake. Dylan is a first year architecture student who is very shy and nervous about being at the university so far away from home. Jay is a professor at the university who life is currently is in disarray. Jay first notices Dylan during his class and was instantly intrigued by him and his talent. The attraction was immediate for them both and the sparks flew from the first moment they touched. They have a uphill battle to overcome and they need to decide if what is going on is worth it. I loved the commitment, devotion, and love they had for each other....it was sweet!
I can't wait to see what she has in store next for this series. I can't wait to read it. Well done!!

A sweet unconventional romance between professor and student that came with its own consequences. Jay was a college professor and well known architect who has made a life for himself in the midst of divorce with his ex-wife. The first day of class he meets a very intriguing and talented student, Dylan, who is 25 years his junior. His talent definitely captivated him, but there was so much more that drew the two together. Dylan comes to this Atlantic University program for Architecture, but has never felt more out of place except for his professor. Forbidden, but not deterred, the two form an amazing relationship even though they have to hide. Dylan was a virgin and it's been decades since Jay has been with another man. But they both compliment each other in every way. Then their secret was found out as they were getting ready for the biggest competition of the year. Jay was asked to resign. Their world seems to explode but in a good way!! Dylan is prepared to go back home to Toronto, but Jay wants them to spend one last weekend together, to create plans for his new house together. The turning point of their lives. This is a beautiful love story against the odds!! A wonderful HEA!❤️
I was looking forward to reading this book so much, as May-December romance novels are my weakness. The story line was really well fleshed out by the author, but I will admit that I was startled a bit as it seemed that the first physical contact happened pretty abruptly and was totally unexpected. There was so much possible depth to the characters and I liked reading about them very much, but there seemed to be parts missing in their evolution from acquaintances to lovers, even though this story had the potential to explode all over the pages, because the author included all of the important information. All in all, I enjoyed reading this and I really like Candice Blake's writing. I will always recommend to buy her novels. I was given an ARC for an honest review.
I loved this story. The main characters in this story is Jay, and Dylan. All through the book I had three things I wanted to know, I found out. 1. Will anyone find out the affair? 2. Will Jay lose his job? 3. Will Dylan make friends. I loved it.
Jay to December Jay is a professor at the college that Dylan is going to. Their journey is not an easy one and they have to make some tough decisions once their relationship is known. It is a really sweet and heartwarming read. I received a copy for an honest review.
This is the first book of Candice Blake's that I have read. I enjoyed the book but I wish the characters were more developed. Dylan, a 19 year old student, falls for his professor, 44 year old Jay. Dylan has moved from Toronto to Halifax to attend a prestigious school and he hopes to make friends and come out of the closet. Jay is in the middle of a divorce and custody battle with his wife. Their relationship has it's ups and downs but I really enjoyed the progression of it. Dylan and Jay are an engaging couple and I found myself rooting for them. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. This just didn't sit right with me. The age gap seemed to be too much, the writing seemed stilted in parts. The sex scenes were just not right the use of spit and nothing else made me shudder. The thread of the story was good. To make me feel better I added a few years to one mc and took a few years off the other mc.
I enjoyed this book with a slow building of emotions and relations. as an author myself, I don't like putting up spoilers. The book was nice with apt characters and good development of the relation.
I don't know quite what to say. One reviewer said there was something off about the story and I think that pretty much sums up the entire book. No one in the story had any depth. I skipped through the majority of the book just because I paid for it.
MM. Explicit. Dylan is young, shy, and terrible gifted. His teacher supported him in his art. He has little self esteem or worth and he doe snot get any support form his family. Being introverted makes attendance at the prestigious architecture college even more difficult than it already could be. His fellow students are jealous, petty, and make his life difficult. Jay his his older teacher and mentor. He recognizes Dylan's talent and potential. Jay tried to help Dylan gain confidence and stand up to those who tried to tear him down, I wish he would have recognized more of the signs he was being harassed. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
