The Mapmaker: Your 33 Day Journey Towards Daily Presence

Are you living your destiny here on earth? Are you tuned into God's messages for you?

The Power of Story. This book is your stopwatch for pause, your compass for tuning into your life. Use the power of story and journaling to reveal God's map made especially for you. Trust the Mapmaker on your journey. We came into this world seeking to find our place. Our seeking journey will last as long as we have breath left in our lungs. My hope for you is that this book will give you a pause button, letting yourself become more in touch with the thoughts that reside as soul truths for you. I believe that many of my soul truths explored in this book are human truths that connect us. Think of this book as a stopwatch resting in your hand. We need to pause in our lives to create the stillness needed to witness. Only when we are still enough to witness our lives can we know where we are in our journey. Use this book as a time to quiet the world down so that you can begin to hear the messages designed just for your heart and your soul. Each short story or essay is an observation about everyday life moments I have found meaning within. Following each story is an invitation for you to explore your own life in that area, journaling some thoughts to guide your direction. The book covers topics including motherhood, friendship, marriage, divorce, childhood cancer, abuse, our own mortality, and life purpose. In sharing our own stories, we can release others from their own prison. There is power and healing in sharing.

Journal to reveal your messages. Journaling is a powerful form of learning, exploring, and even of prayer. The connection physically between the sensation of writing at your fingertips and the emotions pouring out into physical words holds a power unlike any other. Writing with prompts is much easier to jump into than starting from a blank page. What you reflect on in the prompts will open up other areas of your curiosity to explore for your journey. You will learn new things about yourself, things you didn't know you needed to grow forward on your journey. Journaling seems to magically bring to the surface what needs to be examined. Journaling also gives you permission to release the weight of that which weighs you down as it s no longer trapped within you. It allows us to hear God s intention for us, His promise to us. He is trying to communicate with us all day, every day. We must slow down to hear Him. You'll begin to notice yourself responding to similar situations in your own life that will bring new perspective for you personally.

Story + Journaling = Presence. This is a gift of intentional presence you are investing in for yourself. Through reading, journaling, and your own daily focus you will be in partnership with your compass. Tuning into our compass is our responsibility in this journey to actively respond to direction. The map on which we travel is not our map. We must overall trust the mapmaker in God and know that he is the maker of our map. He has designed us for his purpose. He has plans for each one of us, plans that include every experience we've ever had to form and shape us into what role we are meant to serve here. While we use the stopwatch for pause and the compass for tuning into our directions, they are mere tools to reveal our map.

Mapmaker reminded me of why I'm here, why we all are here. ...Simple steps to bring the reader back into focus on the things that matter in life. In many ways throughout the book, I felt relief that I wasn't the only one. Dawn's willingness to lay her life out on the table and open it up, honest analysis of herself in front of you the reader shows incredible strength and courage all while allowing us the ability to say "yep, this is me in many ways" in private. Dawn has made the book simple, concise, and directed at self-exploration and has given tools and examples the reader can relate to. ~Amazon Reviewer

This is a wonderful book that helps remind us of the importance of being present. It is so easy to get caught up and distracted in today's world, when we do this we miss out on so much of what is really important. I liked the personal examples and the simplicity of the book, a great reminder to be present in all we do.

I enjoyed every single chapter of this book. So many simple takeaways to enjoy life; all the good, the bad, and the ugly because it made you who you are today. Dawn’s stories were very relatable and if I am ever an author, I would want my writing style to be as engaging as hers.

Excellent book! The book really teaches you to slow down and be present no matter if you are at work, with friends or with family. I would highly recommend reading continuously each day to complete the 33 day journey.

I especially loved the writing prompts that followed each chapter. I found that the prompts caused me to stop and consider what I had just read and how it relates to my own life. The reflection exercise really allows the reader to engage with the lessons that were just read.
I also enjoyed the personal connection that the author tries to make with the reader by speaking to the inner voice, which we all too often ignore. I found that through listening to these stories, I questioned how I would have related to these scenarios and what actions I would take.
Overall, the book provides good life lessons on overcoming struggles, dealing with diversity, and finding the intrinsic value in the human experience.

In our busy lives, it can be difficult to pause and center ourselves. The Mapmaker asks the reader to do just that. The author shares thirty-three short autobiographical stories that touch on our common humanity and need for purpose. As a working wife and mother, I found myself nodding in agreement with stories of how difficult it is to find balance in life, be present in the moment, and stand up for myself. Although the author shares her beliefs about God, I appreciated her acknowledgment that other's might have alternate spiritual views. The essence of the book is that we have value and purpose, and we need to show up for life, soaking up its beauty and noticing the deep connections we have with others. The journal questions offer opportunities to reflect and draw more meaning from our lives.
