In this book you will meet the hero thief Lazy Dragon; an old gardener who loved flowers more than his life; magic wish-granting fish bones; a sea princess lured by the call of a flute and a crafty fox who fooled a hungry tiger, and many other wonderful characters. These tales from ancient China are told by Meera Uberoi, one of India’s foremost children’s authors, with her usual humour and style.
I bought this book when I was in school. Brother found it recently. It brought back so many memories of my old self and how during that scholastic meeting I was so fascinated with this book. Looking back I think I bought this because I thought every student has to buy one (shakes head) and this was the shortest and probably the cheapest. This might be the first fiction book I bought, I'm quite confident actually. Foreshadowing? Nah - just coincidence.
I vaguely remember telling dad that everyone needs to buy a book from the scholastic program and he was not believing me - He stand corrected. Still gave me money (miss you dad) and I remember giving it to my teacher back then in Orion and receiving this book in a paperbag kinda parcel, after a few days.
I remember reading it and struggling with the Asian names and I think it kinda scared me back then and even gave me a headache. I probably thought I will never buy such stupid books again. Oh man I was wrong. It still has some pencil underlines that I did. I miss those days. The pencil days. The days when my dad use to buy me a sharper everyday. It sucks without him.
The book is alright. Stories are great if you are a child, especially the lazy dragon ones, I can see myself enjoying those as a kid. The main thing this book did is bring me back into reading. I had a lethargic year reading wise, completely fucked up my target of ten books. Hopefully this year will be better. Short and sweet. And I need to more.
