This was a simple - too simple IMO - story of the English virgin schoolteacher meeting the playboy tycoon on a holiday and having an affair since their stunning looks and sexual attraction were so overwhelming. She winds up pregnant and they marry because of the baby. For conflict, the author has the heroine refuse to sleep with the H once they are married because her feelings will overwhelm her during sex and she will confess that she loves him. Quelle horreur! Sacre bleu! What a tragedy that would be!

Needless to say, I found this flimsy "conflict" stupid and tiresome since it was used instead of an actual plot. This was one of AG's first HQN's and I can definitely see where her writing has improved. Perhaps on another day, I might have rated this bk higher since I love AG's sexy and angsty writing but I couldn't overcome the lack of an actual plot this time.

Tropes: the Playboy of the Western World and the Virgin, trouble-making wannabe Other Woman, Virgin Sex is so mindblowing that he forgets to use a condom

Note: H later appears in The Mediterranean Billionaire's Blackmail Bargain.

3 weak stars. H/h fall in love at first sight, but neither will admit anything beyond a strong attraction. Virgin heroine spends a magical week with the hero on his French island in off the coast and then returns to England with her heart broken after the hero's PA insinuates that the h is one of many and the hero always wines and dines his women like this.

Four months later the heroine is pregnant and see the H is in London for business. She makes an appointment and he agrees to see her. She tells him she's pregnant. He insists they marry. See what I mean? No conflict.

She refuses to have sex with him. He bows to her wishes.

They eventually have sex. They each think they are the only one to care.

Eventually the heroine cracks after he offers her her freedom and says those three fatal words. HEA with a twins epilogue.

There are some nice travelogue moments of the island that had been hit by an earthquake a century before and wiped out most of the population. Hero is a good guy. Heroine is sweetly stupid about keeping the H at bay for so long.

Read if you need a break from conflict and angst.

Reading this I was surprised by the low ratings as I liked the characterisation and the reluctant but hot chemistry between the mcs. But I soon learnt better.

The h/H indulge in a agreed upon a short week-long holiday fling - the local French noble/Billionaire and the (sub) schoolteacher Briton. What follows is some low key ow drama, some overdone virgin surprise and both trying to keep their emotions at bay. The week ends - the H wants her to stay but she's been worked upon by the ow so she refuses. Few months later and a no-surprise pregnancy makes an appearance (the one time in his life he forgoes precaution!) and she marches to his London office (he's conveniently visiting) to tell him and turns to leave as she that's all she intended to do - tell him. But he has other plans for his heir and the incubator. So an moc it is.

All well and good but then it drags and drags till you want to scream! The conflict was such a no go.
It's impossible to tolerate a sophisticated french guy behaving like a petty schoolboy. And girl, if you want sex so badly - Indulge! You've got a sex god for a husband and you are a self proclaimed gauche - a few ILYs screamed out should be de rigueur given the situation. But she shows more control than a nun and fills up few chapters doing it.
So silly, so unneeded, so unnatural!

A story that started out with potential and struggled for conflict in the plot, dragging on at the end to a boring fizzle. The OW angst was lame, and the H and h were both annoying the heck out of me by the time I reached the finale. If there was one. The only thing saving this story was the setting and little else.

This rather lackluster story by an author who usually shines is a let-down.

What a bore!
It’s the first time I’m disappointed with the book because of the heroine.
The heroine is a tourist and she meets the super sexy billionaire hero who owns the island and all the stuff in it, he’s smitten and asks her out, they decide for a weekend of wonderful sex, after which he asks her to stay and basically to be his mistress, he doesn’t just say the word but he is willing to keep her.
But since she had an unpleasant meeting with his bitchy pa who insulted her and obviously she feels cheap, she refuses his proposal and goes back to England.
Four months later she’s found out she’s pregnant and decides to tell him.
He does the right thing that is proposes marriage, which she accepts not very graciously.
That is, I wonder, woman, what the hell do you expect???
True love declarations after a weekend of sex???
You have just met and he could have paid you off and went back to his models, but since he’s a decent man he offered marriage and you are being difficult as if he insulted you?
I wanted to bang her head very hard.
Then she does another stupid thing.
Since the only certain thing that they have at the moment is their chemistry and wonderful sex she decides not to have sex with him.
Yes, very smart indeed.
It was better if she refused to marry him.
The moment she accepted to marry the man she should have been ready to have a real and proper marriage not a shame marriage.
For the baby’s sake the only important thing is that their parents are happy together and she refused to commit to the marriage.
Then she throws tantrum because he buys her new clothes.
How silly is this?
The fact that she refuses to have sex then is the dumbest thing she could do, since he accepted to have sex with him when they were strangers but now that they are husband and wife she denies him.
I find that this book is unrealistic and not very pleasant.
The heroine should be honest and in love with him but she turns out a spoiled and contrary woman, hard and cold, and this was not the right way to get near her new husband.
The hero was a little wary but since they have been together only days it’s very plausible.
Both were celibate during their separation.
Ow is bitch enough, but I think that the heroine was too stupid and should have put her to her place instead of letting her ruin her life.

This was kind of boring with almost no plot at all. Likable characters and good writing but there was something missing here....

3 1/2 Stars ~ While this premise is one that is well used and is predictable in many ways, Ms. Green gives Xavier and Jane such great chemistry that I didn't mind in the least. After having her heart turned sour by Sasha's lies, Jane vows never to let Xavier know her true feelings. These two are tortured by their own pain that they keep hidden from the other. This is Ms. Green's debut and I enjoyed her fresh voice and found this a compelling read. I'm eagerly looking forward to reading more of her books.

I thought this was pretty boring. There just wasn't much drama to the plot -- just your basic accidental pregnancy + neither one bothers to tell the other how he/she is feeling.

I would of liked to see the villain Sasha get hers but unfortunately it didn't happen. The hero and heroine fought a lot because they denied their love for each other. Eventually when the truth came out, things changed, it was kind of romantic how the heroine came out with all her feelings. I liked it for that reason, it had nice emotional content.

There wasn't much 'falling in love' in this story. I think it was just two strangers learning to adjust to each other. Our hero works/owns hotels while our heroine does....nothing much...just is pregnant and pushes the hero away, but wanting him regardless. She was very inconsistent that the hero had no clue who she was or what she wanted any of the time. Vacation, baby, marriage... not the greatest premise for a novel.

Not bad. Jane did irritate me with her constant jumping and flinching. Her actions didn't help the situation, they actually made it even worse. However, as predicted it ended happily. It was a bit cheesy but I enjoyed it.

Ok but it doesn’t really go anywhere. We’re told, not shown, and it’s dry and unsatisfactory.

I usually like this author’s books - she’s one of my go-to authors but this one is really dated and boring. The heroine’s inner conflict was so stupid and unbelievable. The heroine is one of these TSTL characters and utterly unbelievable. Her behaviour towards the hero was continually cruel and insensitive and all she focussed on was her own stupid belief that she mustn’t let him see she cared.

I hate stories which essentially are based on miscommunication and could be sorted by a sensible conversation. The scene where she felt the baby kick and he reached out to touch was so unutterably and unnecessarily cold and self centred . I loathed her.

The hero was promising, but by the end I wondered what on earth he saw in the heroine. The author has really become a skilful and engaging writer but this book is really outdated. As it was apparently published in 2006 - I guess it’s not surprising! Even this book is well written but the story was awful.

Tall, bronzed Frenchman Xavier Salgado-Lezille isn't a man a girl can say no to easily. Jane tries to play it cool, but she's inexperienced...and a virgin. Falling in love isn't part of the plan...neither is discovering she's pregnant once the affair is over. Xavier knows she's carrying his child, and he wants an heir. Jane has been chosen as his bride!

This was a page turner. I had a hard time putting it down. The love scenes were frequent and had my blood pumping.I fell in love with Jane and Xavier's story. All in all, very enjoyable and I will look for more books by this author, as I don't believe I've read any of her books before.
