August 10, 2017 -- Reread and yes I did want Jade with Declan Murphy!!!!!!
____________________________________________________________
ARC provided for a honest review.

Prey (The Irish Mob Chronicles Book 1)

In blunt businessman, Patrick Murphy's life, he has always put his family -- brothers, Michael, Declan and Sean first as well as business... be it legal or illegal. Now women were never hard to find but to be quite honest, Patrick viewed them as 'distractions' until he had a supposedly one-night stand with a very confident and beautiful Nya!

The next morning upon leaving the hotel together, he immediately discovers that someone is trying to kill him so he does what the Murphy brothers have always done -- protected themselves by any means necessary! But on this occasion, Patrick doesn't necessarily knows why but he takes a stoked but sassy Nya with him on their suspenseful run and the race to stay alive begins. While Nya watches Patrick's actions on this heart pumping race to stay alive she soon makes some huge discoveries. Yes, her one-night is handsome but quite DANGEROUS even as he asks her ever so frankly if she had anything to do with this mark on his life !!!!

This was an excellent new start to yet another suspenseful Mob series by Kaye Blue. The brothers are each unique alpha males with strong personalities that let no man get in their way for their family. In "Prey" hero, Patrick was bossy, controlling and very cocky at times but he made for a rather likeable eldest brother. Heroine Nya was strong when need be but has had some major issues with criminals but it took the actions and conversations with Patrick to make her realize that there are not always blacks and whites but greys in people so like he basically said, grow the f*ck up and forgive until its too late. Yes as I said, Patrick was just blunt no matter who he talked with but remember his mob connections were more so as infamous as his legal business deals so "tread lightly" at all times with Patrick Murphy!

I really enjoyed this book and I really look forward to reading Micheal, Declan and Sean's story in the Mob Chronicles!

4.5/5 amazing stars! ****.5

Nya Hendersen finally gets the promotion she's been working her ass off for which definitely calls for a celebration. Deciding to stop at an upscale new hotel/bar on her way home, Nya is approached by the proverbial tall dark stranger of her dreams ending the night in his hotel room in a marathon night of sex. Her morning walk of shame out of the hotel is interrupted when she finds herself at the receiving end of a gun. A gun that is apparently intended for her date.

Always the gentleman, mobster Patrick Murphy escorts his latest hookup to her car when an assassination attempt is made. Narrowly escaping, Patrick brings Nya to the only safe place he knows to handle the situation and find out if Nya was in any way responsible for the hit.

Someone's out for Patrick Murphy. Someone who doesn't understand their stupidity as to target one Murphy is to take on the whole family.

* * *

New series that has the fantasy mafia vibe going on. By that I mean, though mobsters, they take the high road in their dealings and behavior and all angst and day to day problems are resolved in easy fixes/best case scenario formats. End result is the story line has minimal dark themes and less spine chilling fear factor scenes.

I did appreciate this story though it lacked that certain 'something' I'm used to in antihero/mobster reads. I wanted that feeling of emptying bodily fluids because a mobster focused their attention on me not knowing if that means I'm gonna live or die instead getting the feeling of encountering a non-venomous snake that may strike out and bite, but won't kill me. There are pros and cons to each but knowing beforehand is helpful for other potential readers of this story.

Nya was a strong female character who I felt was a good match for Patrick. Enjoyed her backbone and refusal in being a damsel in distress sort of character. She was exactly what Patrick needed though his character was an ass for the most part (in a good way of course) as there was a lot of back and forth will he or won't he going on. Why oh why don't my fictional characters listen to my internal screaming telling them early on not to fight things.....

For those who wonder about romance/adult content. The author definitely provides readers with some HAWT sexy time with Patrick definitely being a dominant sort of lover. Personally would have appreciated more indepth coverage of those scenes as who wouldn't enjoy more of hot domineering sweaty droolicious booty time.

The cast of secondary characters includes Patrick's family (both blood & mob family) & Nya's friends, some of who will definitely have their own stories. Next scheduled is Reap due May 17, 2017 though it's not clear which brother is next......

For a change of pace this is a contemporary mobster romantic tale to check out if you like your antiheroes less intense and a story line that features minimal blood/violence scenes. Of course that doesn't mean the author held back on the erotic/adult content intimacy scenes because it's in there :)

This was a pretty good read and the first book in a new series too me. Patrick Murphy is the oldest of the 4 Murphy brother's he is also the head of the Irish mob. Nya is a good girl when she hooks up with a hot sexy Patrick at M lounge after hearing her drink order a hot sexy night turns into a dangerous situation when someone begins shooting at Patrick who thinks that she set him up. These two had a lot of hot chemistry. Both Nya and Patrick each had issues with their fathers. I didn't like Nya's best friend she got on my nerves. This was a good read. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading about the other brothers.

Irish mob bad boys

Bad boy Irishman meets his match. I falls in love with a strong black woman. Unfortunately someone want him dead. And to get at him they have to kill her also. If you like bad boys fighting for their women this is a perfect storm for you. Kaye Blue always brings it.

Yet another DNF... So the lead male and female meet at a bar. They end up boning. The morning after, there’s chit chat, he walks her down to the lobby of the hotel where they’re met with bad guys with guns. The lead characters take off running and get away. The entire time the lead female has no reaction. Just nonchalant, like it was a normal routine. The dialogue was terrible and the writing needs work.

3.5 to 4

Interesting read with a quick pace. I wish there was more info on the brothers and their background. I guess more will come as the series goes on. Pat and Nya had lots of chemistry. The brothers are a bunch of characters with issues. Looks like will be a good series

Nya and Patrick definitely brought the heat! I knew the moment Nya went with him that she would fight to be with him! They understood each other so well. So glad that he didn't give up on her. They definitely had me at the edge of my seat. 😊💙

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Nya is out solo celebrating a work promotion at an upscale bar, content with her own company and oblivious to the male attention she's garnering; she orders a whiskey neat and gains an admirer named Patrick Murphy. Though reluctant to engage him, less than 24 hours later she wakes up to find herself alone in a penthouse suite -- feeling slightly put out. No worries because Patrick has forgotten the rules of how a One Night Stand work, too.

Minutes later, waiting for the elevator they encounter two thugs with guns aimed and primed to shoot when they must flee for their lives. Has Nya been hired to kill him? Who exactly is Patrick Murphy and why are people trying to kill him? The answers won't be easy to hear and neither of their lives will ever be the same again.

This is the start of the brand new Irish Mob Series by Kaye Blue that will feature Patrick's brothers: Declan, Sean and Michael in their own stories.

A great start to a new series! Loving those Murphy men! Loved it!
Ms. Blue has done it again with the Irish Mob Chronicles. I have fallen in love with the Murphy men. In this story we have Patrick Murphy and Nya, after what is supposed to be a one night stand. The couple starts to literally run for their lives the morning after. This was a wonderful, suspense, hot sex, can't put down read. The thing I love about Ms. Blue's books are the thinly veiled descriptions of the characters. Though you know it is an interracial romance, she focuses more on the feelings, the suspense and the edge of your seat story. I freaking love that! I cannot wait for the rest of the Murphy men Declan, Michael and Sean. Kudos on a well written story!

I have mixed feelings about this book. To me, it appears that the author takes great effort to hide the ethnicity of Nya. The author described Patrick with precise details. Yet Nya remain a mystery
I assumed she was Black simply because of her name. However, I wanted and needed it confirmed. It would have given a different perspective on the book and relationship between the main characters.

Overall, it was OK! I didn't feel like it was anything spectacular. I've read mafia relationship stories with the romance and the violence. This story lacked the strong no holds bard alpha man.

I would recommend it so my friends and I could discuss if I was overreacting on my observation.

Happy reading!

I just finished reading this book by Kaye Blue. Whilst I love her stories, again too much narrative and not enough dialogue between the couple for me. Also the colour of the leading lady is totally ambiguous which is not good when you think you reading an interracial story. I don't mind if its not interracial but I want to imagine what the lading lady looks like and the description in this story does not give me that.

A good start to a new series but I really would enjoy these stories more if the couple talked a lot more than then the author allows them to.

Nya

This whole thing started as a one night stand gone wrong. He becomes obsessed and it turns into something more which is what she needs. I felt bad that she wasn't happy however it turned out to help her. The relationship was a little awkward because I didn't know if their relationship was good or bad. Does she want him? I kept asking myself because of the violence she was constantly involved in. Overall it was good and I absolutely loved the characters.

First time I am reading this author, I will definitely add her books to my read more list. 👍 if you like Carrie Ann Ryan, J.C. Chambers, Alexis Abbott, then this book will appeal to you☺☺,

Written in more the main character, Patrick Murphy POV which was interesting, storyline is a rich business man with criminal links picks up a one night stand in his brother's bar but someone tries to kill him and the one night extends to indefinite while he enjoys the sex and tries to solve who wants him dead. 😃

I felt that Nya could have been fleshed out more, for a financial executive, who is a straightforward, go getter, I personally didn't like her at first, wimpy , following what Patrick said with little resistance,😒 when she does show some backbone it is great.😊 Patrick and his brothers are beautifully written, tragic childhood to strong alpha males, you find yourself wanting to know more about them.😁 The criminal side keeps you reading to see if your bad guy guess is right 😂 I am not a prude, I love the hot sex scenes but I felt there were too many as if it was used to fill the space instead of building more characters interactions, still a good read 👍👍👍

Hard to Read

Promised so much but unfortunately failed to deliver. This book’s main problem is the over excessive use of the internal dialogue. Pages and pages of it. So much that you forget any conversation that was happening and give up and start to skip pages to get through it.
Skipping pages was the only reason I was able to finish this book.

It’s as if the author felt it necessary to explain every single nuance of thought from the characters. Failing to realise that readers are adept at putting 2 and 2 together and getting 4.

The sex scenes were also lacking and repetitive so I ended up flicking through them too.

Reading the blurb and the blurb of the other books in this series, promises so much but unfortunately I won’t be reading them due to the writing style. I’ll read a few reviews, see if the writing style has changed. More often than not I find they never do.

I was so bored with this book. I loved the beginning of this book. I thought the first 20% was exactly what i was looking for, but the rest of the book felt like a lot of back and forth. Nya would come to a decision or have morals about something in particular, only for her to through it all away when hot-guy Patrick says "No". Like I don't mind that, but come on...give me a good reason. It makes previous scenes feel useless, and that's what bugged me. The story was so sloooowwww for over 60% of this. I felt like nothing was happening. Even when it starts to get interesting again, I've pretty much already made up my mind on the book.

Patrick and Nya

I'm not sure how I'd feel about going with a stranger after having a gun pointed at me; running through a hotel while being shot at or chased out of my home by an intruder set on killing me. All because of said stranger. Not one were the police involved.
That's the trouble Nya finds herself in after spending a few hours with Patrick.
I love the relationship between the brothers. I would've like to have read that Nya developed a closer relationship with her parents. It didn't seem she had close personal relationships with anyone other than her friend/neighbor.

Meh. Mafia romances are a favorite sub genre of mine to read, but this book was pretty weak and felt wishy-washy to me. The heroine was portrayed as being this strong successful businesswoman, yet she was an utter doormat to the hero, who within 24 hours of their meeting was the cause of her being shot at and almost killed. And her response was to be utterly ok with the hero taking her to his home and keeping her there for weeks (what about her job that she just got promoted at, hmm?) where she utters no complaints and the two of them just continue to bang each other constantly. Yeah, I don’t think so.

Alway a pleasure

I really do love these books. I have read every one of them and I have never been disappointed. Now I'm reading this series and I'm sure I won't be disappointed. About to start book 2. The only draw back is the length....these series books are never long enough. This is a real guilty pleasure. Who needs crappy reality T.V. when you have series books by Ms. Blue. Action, a hot guy, a spunky heroin, hot sex, a page turner, not boring. Highly recommended. If you haven't read Kaye Blue, check her out, you won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to also reading brothers Declan, Michael and Sean's story each. Although this was a quick read it was good to see that Nya stood strong throughout everything that was going on and never once said anything about what was going on with what was happening. Now that she knows who Patrick is and what he does I would like to see what happens next for these two. I love to see a family of brothers sticking together and challenging one another, but also close and coming together when the time is right.

Wonderfully written. Enjoyed very much

I loved the fact that back stories were almost none existent. They were on referenced as a brief explanation for a decision & not entire unnecessary chapters. There was nothing predictable about the book which was a pleasant surprise. The best friend got on my last nerve but I love all the other main characters. Wonderfully written! Can't wait to experience the rest of the series

I knew I was going to love this series and I was right

Patrick the oldest of the Murphy brothers meets his woman Nya at M lounge he overheard her drink order and decided to step to her. Long story short their one night stand turned into more because situations kept coming up where someone's my mainly Patrick's life was endangered. Both Nya and Patrick each had issues with their fathers with each other's help they got a new perspective of their two situations.

I didn’t connect with the characters at all. Didn’t believe that they actually could possibly love each other. I’m still going to read the other books in the series because obviously this was a set up for the other brothers. I’m definitely very interested in Jade and believe she has a story. I’m already reading the second book Reap. The second story is by bounds and leaps better than the first. So if you’re like me and didn’t like the first at all, keep going with the others.

At the start I couldn't decide whether this was what I wanted to read. But as l kept reading I couldn't not, it had to be read. I had to see how it all panned out, you could tell something was brewing but not in the way you would have thought. I did feel however there could’ve been a bit more to this story, the climax was over way too quick and some of the scenes you have to make up in your own mind as to what happened. But all in all I enjoyed it

Nya and Patrick

This book was so well written that I didn’t want to put it down at all. A mafia man and a woman meet in a club and each have a drink. The woman is very much against any criminal types and fights her feelings. The man also has many feelings to sort out about this woman. These are new feelings for him to deal with.
I love reading about the Mafia. But seeing how this complicated
relationship grows or does not is excellent.
