With over a million books sold to date, Sarah Woodbury is the author of more than forty novels, all set in medieval Wales. Although an anthropologist by training, and then a full-time homeschooling mom for twenty years, she began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded that she let them out. While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time at university. She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.
Sarah is a member of the Historical Authors Fiction Cooperative (HFAC), the Historical Novel Society, and Novelists, Inc. (NINC).
Sarah Woodbury delivers beautiful prose and poetry in this semi- historical series of books. Her books are well researched, well thought out, and well edited. A pleasure to read.
Not nearly as well written or thought out as other works of this author's I've read. The ending was rushed. So many story lines for many of the main characters left completely unfinished. I wondered if in 8 books...I read books 12,3,7and 8...to sewhat happened...the stories and fates of all the characters are not completed...well, it is a lot of book to leave these events and characters incomplete. The ending felt rushed and not thought out. The many explanations of the magic and other world simply incomprehensible, the inconsistencies of powers and behaviors the repetitive nature of the language and settings and mannerisms of the characters, the Length of it all...rendered these books inexplicably or to me. It felt like a long winded first attempt at capturing legend fantasy, fiction, history , romance, and so much more into one long rambling , repetitive (though I will admit there were moments of great wisdom and clarity and some pretty poetry!) Treatise. I love this author but would not recommend this particular series.
These stories are interesting, but for me they drag. They are short stories, but for as long as it takes me to get through them, you’d think they were a thousand pages long. I realize these are quests written in the style of ancient mythology however, I feel like this entire series could have been cut down severely and been better for it.
This gets 3* instead of 2* because of Woodbury’s dedication to the history and detail.
The stories in this series are more like novellas than full length novels. each ends in a cliff-hanger so it's a good idea to have the next one handy. I enjoyed the series, but it lacks the depth of character found in the authors other series. Still, if you're interested in ancient/medieval Wales and especially Welsh mythology, you'll enjoy this series too.
