Alice Madison, fresh from police academy, tries to seem like she knows what she's doing when she's assigned to stand guard over a young woman on suicide watch who was found burying the body of a newborn baby in the woods. Over the course of four short afternoons, Madison learns a little bit more about Christy Rae Finch--enough to set her off on her own investigation . . .

I'm not going to deny that Valentina Giambanco's Alice Madison series is one of my favorite crime series and I recommend it to all that want to enjoy a good crime story. It might seem off putting that the series isn't very famous but that doesn't mean it's not good and not worth to be read. So give it a try. In the short stories we get to know her protagonist Alice Madison but in the actual books there are so many characters you'll get to know and like or dislike... I like that she balances her characters between black and white and makes for it so much more intriguing. Also the setting of Seattle is so refreshing since it's not used much in crime series. In this short story Madison has to watch over a patient to prevent a possible suicide since the person must be trialed for a crime. During her watch some things the patient says leads Madison to investigate and see if there's more to the story. Very good but also very short. I can't wait for the fifth story because I want more of Madison, Brown, Quinn and Seattle of course.
Valentina Giambanco has a Agatha Christie quality which makes me love her books so much more. It’s amazing how she always ties everything together in a surprising and fulfilling way (idk if fulfilling is a good word for mystery novels but it’s how Valentina’s books make me feel).
The story is complete, too bad it ended so quickly. Of course with the death of Christie Rae there is not much reason to continue. On the other hand there could have been an interesting tale to tell. But don’t think there isn’t much to read, there is, and it will leave you thinking.
