Witch Bones

Rate this book
Disappearing tourists spell big trouble for Shadow Crossing, especially since the town already has the reputation of being one of the most haunted places on earth.

With the Moon Festival just around the corner, the town merchants are up in arms over tourists going missing. No one will want to visit the spookiest town in the country if people are actually disappearing.
The situation takes a turn for the worse when the body of one of those tourists turns up in the county prosecutor's car and Aunt Selena spots a reaper roaming around the cemetery in the dead of the night.
Times are tough for Sadie Costello. Although she hasn't had a paying client in weeks, she has no choice but to take on the case, even if it isn't paying anything. After all, the county prosecutor just happens to be her father and the townsfolk are already screaming for his head.
Can things get any worse? They sure can. In fact, things get really ugly when Aunt Selena finds out the sexiest vampire in the world is back and he has his eye on Sadie.

Kendra loves theme parks, tropical islands, and the sea. When she isn’t busy writing her next adventure, she likes going to the drive-in movies with her kids, camping, long road trips, and watching The Walking Dead.
You might run into Kendra at Disneyland, or possibly New Orleans, especially around Halloween. She’ll probably be listening to Guns -n- Roses, and eating Gumbo. Slash is the best!

Ms. Ashe's best

This series is definitely Ms. Ashe's best series to date, and book two is starting to develop what looks to be a pretty good backstory. The author shows her strengths here in the form of a good mystery and a surprise ending, and none of her weaknesses, which in past series was a tendency to go over the top with outlandish characters at times. "Wicked Western Witches" avoids all that and is well balanced with likable characters that are developing real personalities. She neatly avoids the pitfall of cartoonish characters which is often a problem with paranormal cozies and it makes her work much more enjoyable than some.

My only complaint is the need for a little copy editing; there are a few instances of misspellings and misuse of words, and once or twice a word has been left out of a sentence, though it is clearly needed. Like many indy authors, she seems to have rushed to publish without that final careful editing by an outside expert that makes a work professional. I am absolutely sure the author must know some grammar Nazi who would be happy to help for a free read, and I hope she will avail herself of that help prior to publishing her next book!

Congratulations to Ms. Ashe who is beginning to hit her stride as a writer. I will certainly be following her work with interest from here on out.

Mummy's home!

Terrific. A strange fog, abductions, dead bodies and her father is being questioned as a suspect. Thank goodness for her new partner, the hunky vamp. Will they be able to unravel what or who is doing the killing? Why is the preacher there and what is making people suddenly want to follow him? Throughout the book we also follow the romantic of two young cousins. Although I really enjoyed the book (the culprit was a real surprise), the ending felt a bit weak. At least in my opinion.

A good read from Kendra Ashe

This is not my favorite series from Kendra, but it isn't bad either. I admit to liking the first in the series better than the second, but I think they will get better as they go. This one tying up the murders at the end no happened way too fast, making the end of the story rather disappointing. But again I expect the stories will develop over time. For a much better look into the talent that is Kendra Ashe I would highly suggest the Izzy Cooper series and the undertaker series. I adored each and every one of those.
