Haint Misbehavin'

Rate this book
Fairy tales do come true, whether you like it or not. Reclusive artist Annabelle Browder is well aware she has mixed blood. Non-human blood. Her family barely survived the last encounter with the Fae. Assured that no further contact is possible, she chooses a beautiful Norse/Celtic jewel from the stolen treasure trove of her Irish ancestor.

But as soon as the pendant settles against her breasts, the games begin anew. First chanting only she can hear. Then intense visions of a dark angry warrior who hijacks her art, her life and her heart.
Then her kinsman is kidnapped.

This time the Fae will not be denied. To protect her family and regain her life, she must discover what happened to the Fae king’s heir, missing for a millennium. Aided only by a ditsy pixie, she searches the UK for him, one step ahead of pale assassins.

I am a retired high school English teacher and am now blessed to have more time to read widely and to belong to three book clubs. One of our groups spent a delightful evening with Maggie Brodgden where we learned of her writing process and her inspirations for her books. As the wine flowed, it became obvious that her keen wit and personality had found their way onto the pages of Haint Misbehavin.
While romantic fantasy is not my usual reading preference, I did enjoy this book and feel that many of my former students would also. It has a feisty heroine, Annabelle Browder, an impish sidekick, and a hunky hero....all elements of a good read. Throw in fast-paced action, snappy dialogue, supernatural, adventure, and the classic theme of good versus evil, and settle in with your cup of tea as you suspend your disbelief.

This was a real page turner. I enjoyed my second trip into Maggie Brogden's imaginative brain. Once again we were carried into a world where things are not what they seem and magic trips up our heroine on almost every page. Sometimes the vocabulary was a hindrance as I had to stop reading and look up meanings.

Excellent Story

I absolutely loved this series. It was hilarious and well written. Loved the accuracy of South Carolina culture. Recommend to read Spitten Grits first. Loved both.
