I couldn't be more excited about this second book in this series. I was wishing for the supernatural world of Violet to appear and Abracadabra it slid into the story line. Now dreaming of a crossover book.
Five stars just doesn’t seem like enough for this second book by Ann Charles in A Dig Site Mystery series. I absolutely love Ann’s stories and couldn’t wait for this one to come out to see where we would go next on an adventure with the group and what escapades would happen along the way! I was not let down at all! So many questions I had were answered as the group uncovered more and more ancient relics and tie ins to The Deadwood series, which for me was a biggie, were made. Ann did an amazing job writing this story along with so much research! I love the little snippets she added to the beginning of each chapter that gave a little information on the Maya culture. Don’t hesitate to pick this one up because you will surely not be let down and will enjoy hours of good entertainment and laugh out loud moments. Yes, this was well worth the wait and I loved it! I would give it ten stars if I could!
MAKE NO BONES is a light-hearted look at what takes place at an archeological dig site in Mayan Jungle in Mexico. Ann Charles creates an atmosphere of suspense, fun, and romance. She creates mysterious events and adds some paranormal action to keep readers on their toes. The two protagonists are an archaeologist, Angelica Garcia and photojournalist and lover, Quint Parker who together pursue the mysteries of a new dig site. Angelica goals are to discover the secrets of the dig site as well as find answers to the death of her mother, who is a world-renown archaeologist, who lost her life as at the site. Charles gives details of Quint and Angelica backstory including details of her mother accident. As the story proceeds, the author adds additional information and updates to each of characters' history.
Charles brings the storyline to life adding interesting descriptions of the Mayan culture. She creates great support characters and explains each characters’ history and the roles their roles as she introduces them to the storyline. Charles adds several subplots to add to the adventure and action of the story. The action keeps reader interest high as they follow the excavation of the ancient site as worker uncover relics and find terrible secrets that some feel should be left alone. Dangerous events unfold at the dig site suggesting there is a curse that scares the workers. Charles shares details of the Mayan culture by adding comments at the beginning of each chapter giving readers an insight into the dig sites history. Charles places her reader next to Angelica and Quint so they can understand what they are thinking and experiencing.
The storyline increases momentum at the turn of the page as Charles describes actions taking places at the dig site. The author grabs her readers’ attention when she shares details of Quint’s plan to take Angelica home to Deadwood to meet his family. This connection to the Deadwood series explains the comfort Quint has with the paranormal activity at the site. MAKE NO BONES is a fun adventure full of action and surprises on every page. Charles’ readers discover details about Quint and Angelica that set the stage of future Dig Site stories.
Another smashing success! In my opinion it is rare that an author can flip over to different series of stories and still carry over the depth and excellence in a story but Ann achieves it every time. In this latest installment of the dig site series, we get to learn more about the relationship dynamic between Clint and Angelica in the Mayan jungle. What really happened to Angelica’s mother at the site? Is there really a curse or something more diabolical at play here at the site? Will Clint commit to their relationship? So many twists and turns it was hard to put down. Highly recommended and a must read for all present and future Ann Charles fans!
Ever wonder about life as an archeologist? Maya history and culture? Do you like to get lost in humorous, spooky and lively fiction, and come to know the characters' numerous and quirky sides as though they are your besties? Then this is the book for you. The amount of time spent by the author in studying the Maya, and all that covers, is evident in the book, and fascinating. Ann Charles is so talented in putting the reader into the scenes and allowing one to visualize the panorama of them that it's such a joy to read. This one takes you into caverns and tunnels and puts you face to face with all the things, from gorgeous and sexy to downright otherworld deathly, all while educating you on Maya history. Book one, 'Look What The Wind Blew In', is the intro to the characters, but this one will stand alone as well.
Ann Charles once again spins a tale that keeps you turning the pages until the very end. What makes this series special is the incredible amount of research involved to make the setting and the characters ring true, and the seamless way she weaves the historical facts into her story. You can't help but cheer on the main characters, and the cast of supporting characters who make this series so entertaining. An added plus is how this story hints at an possible intersection with the tales revolving around Quint's sister Violet. Could things possibly get better than that? Well written, well researched, educational and entertaining! An all around great read from start to finish!
Make No Bones About It is the second book in Ann Charles' Dig Site Mysteries and like all her books it is packed full of good, sexy, mysterious and a little paranormal fun! Ann brings these characters to life in a setting that is ripe with ancient mysteries as well as not so ancient mysteries. Angélica and Quint are back in the jungle only this time at a new site...the site Angélica's mother died at. Angélica is sure there is a mystery to uncover that her mother discovered and she is determined to find it but Quint feels there is more then meets the eye here and he is determined to protect the "boss lady" at any cost! Thank you Ann for another thoroughly entertaining book and I hope that you plan many many more adventures with this cast of characters!
A mystery you can dig into. Literally! What I love about Ann Charles' writing is the details. Authentic details that taught me some Mayan history along the way. And Quint and Angela... muy caliente! Great cast of characters and a story that grabbed me from page one. Not to mention, a surprising twist to the ending. Looking forward to the next dig!
Temples and Snakes - Never fails that I found myself enjoying another one of Ann's books. With the twists, turns and surprises she has yoy guessing till the end.
I don't write many reviews because I'm not good with words. But I got to tell you Make No Bones About It is another page turner that keeps you wanting more. Looking for a good mystery? Here is the book to read. Now bring on book three.
Ann Charles' latest in her mercenaries is hands down one of my favorite new reads!
Her writing is right and her research into the background subject matter is absolutely solid. I am loving reading about these characters as they grow in their relationships to one another against a backdrop of something I actually studied in college as part of my major. I love, love, love the precolombian civilization facts and the stories have inspired me to expand my own very basic knowledge of the subject matter as well as just the sheer enjoyment of reading about the adventures of the third member of Violet Parker of Deadwood fame's sibling cadre. Quint is a great guy who may be a looker, but he's also a thinker and a doer instead of just another pretty face of a stereotypical romance novels lead male. The strong female lead of Angélica Garcia is also a welcome relief from the damsel in distress motif many authors used to use to portray a female who loves a male. ( I would expect nothing less from this amazing lady's work after having read her Deadwood- based stories and her Jackrabbit Junction series and she didn't disappoint here, either!!!) Great writing, great and interesting characters, very interesting storyline in the archaeology backdrop- these books have it all. A girl can't ask for a better read when she doesn't feel like reading her regular diet of hard core science fiction books and wants to take her brain in a different direction. Love these books and I think it's his author it totally a winner and her work will stand the test of time and be readable and relatable by more than just one generation of readers.
What can I say? Wow, just wow! There was excitement, danger, romance, and mystery all tied up with a dash of supernatural and a hint of murder. This is the second book in the Dig Site series, a series that takes place in the jungles of Mexico with some Maya ruins and curses in the background. Angélica is an archaeologist out to prove her late mother's theories about the Maya civilization. Quint is a photojournalist who fell hard and fast for Angélica and now will do anything to keep her safe and out of the clutches of those who murdered her mother. The book is written with humor and fast-paced action and the sexual tension between Quint and Angélica sizzles hotter than the steaminess of the Yucantán jungle.
I have enjoyed every book I have read from Ann Charles and this one is no exception! I love the characters especially Quint! Make No Bones About It was full of mystery and suspense. I was trying to guess how it would end throughout the book, but the story was so full of surprises! Such a great read! Can't wait for more of Quint and Angelique's story!
Book 2 in the Dig-Site series is a winner! As I read farther and farther into the story I found it harder and harder to put down. The story advances photojournalist Quint's and archeologist Angelica's relationship, introduces a supernatural element, and presents gobs of Maya and Olmec info and lore. The support personnel (and pet javelina) also have their roles to play in this tale. Read and enjoy!
I read book one, Look What The wind Blew In and just finished reading Make No Bones About It. Both of there books from the Dig Site mystery by Ann Charles. These books are for any of you out there who love archaeology, can't resist humorous dialogue, suspense that grabs you by the seat of your pants, and romance!
The characters are so well portrayed you can't believe they aren't real. I felt immediately drawn into the story, tromping thought the jungle and on the lookout for venomous snake, which terrify me beyond belief!
Make No Bones About It is a fantastic follow up to the first book. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy experiencing exciting new places with a mystery mixed in. Ann always has you in stitches and you don't want to stop reading.
‘Make No Bones About It’ was a great follow-up to “Look What the Wind Blew In’. A fun read with some great paranormal surprises that include an Olmec werejaguar and several Maya spirits. Clint and Angelica are back in the jungle at another Maya dig-site that is cursed according to some. While trying to clean up the site Clint, Angelica, and the crew come across many pitfalls and some extremely bad luck that leads the reader to an action=packed conclusion. I especially loved the tie-in with Clint's family traits that Ann writes about in her Deadwood Mystery Series. A must read for any Ann Charles fan and for the paranormal mystery fan.
Ann really researches her books well!! Love how she adds mystery and fact and, oh so much laughter in her books!! One awesome lady who is a hoot in real life as in her books!! Love you Ann!! ~Raelene~
Excellent new humourous mystery series Dig Site's second installment by author Ann Charles! Another exciting turn from Quint Parker, Angelica and her dad and the rest of the crew as they uncover mystery while uncovering further knowledge about the Maya civilization. I learned so much more about the Maya people and the Yucatan Peninsula while reading this book, as well as being thoroughly entertained by the characters' antics and being on the edge of my seat from the suspense! Highly recommend!!
This was a wonderful and long read. I love Angélica and Quint together, they are one of my favorite book couples. They both both strong and able to be independent but are so much better together. It's one of the few books I've read in a while that took me more than one day. This is because it was longer, I enjoyed every minute it took me to read. It's a book I would definitely recommend to others.
Make No Bones is another hit for author Ann Charles. Jam-packed full of Indiana Jones-style action, sizzling romance and even some Mayan history to boot, the story takes us to the jungles of the Yucatan in Mexico to dodge rattle snakes, jaguars, a possible killer and the Mayan Underworld in a fast-paced, high action novel you'll race to the end for. Charles not only has crafted an intricate mystery, but as the master of witty repartee, she had this reader laughing out loud. Make No Bones is the perfect mix of sexy fun and dangerous adventure. I'd highly recommend it to readers of Cozy Mysteries, Romantic Suspense, Humorous Contemporaries and anyone who is interested in archaeology!
Ann Charles writes the most fascinating books! This second book in the Dig Site series really delivers all the suspense and spine tingling adventure we have come to expect from Ann and tops it off with some unexpected chills as well! Ann Charles does a tremendous amount of research and is able to work a great story around real history and blend ancient beliefs with present day characters with such skill and finesse that it is difficult to put these books down!
Welcome to the hot and steamy jungles of Mexico where history can be found in ancient ruins. On this dig Angelica, Quint and the rest of her crew will release something that is beyond this world and lives will be at stake. Quint also finds out a secret about himself. This secret ties together with his sister Violet from Deadwood which I hope will bring the two series together. Great writing Ann Charles.
Seriously great book. Lots of suspense, spooky stuff and fun chemistry between Quint and Angelique. Also a strange twist that makes me impatient for the next Deadwood book to be released. :)
... if you're not afraid of snakes, that is. Make No Bones About It is part history lesson, part romance and part thriller/horror. If you're familiar with the Deadwood series, you will find yet more family resemblance between siblings Quint & Violet. Ann Charles' books have a way of drawing you in and making you believe things you never thought possible.
Book 2 in this series has that edge-of-your seat intensity. Reading it was like riding a roller coaster - riding up & down, enjoying the smaller dips until you get to that one last thrilling climax! Mix in the developing hotter than hot relationship between Angelica & Quint, & some frightening supernatural aspects & you get one heck of a fantastic read!
Once again Ann Charles has written a winner! A fun, interesting story set in Maya ruins in the jungle. Snakes, jaguars and other dangerous creatures make life at the archaeological dig site challenging at times for Quint and Angelica. Ann's characters are fun, interesting people. There was a lot of research done and I really liked the way she would begin each chapter with an insight into the Maya culture and word meanings. Some good laughs, some good chills - just a rousing good story. I can't wait for the next one!
