Numbing my pain with a substance I call my voice I have hope to continue tomorrow Using what I know I drown out my sorrow.
Twenty-six year old Nova Pierre's heart was as numb as numb could get. Growing up in Tallahassee, Fl to a woman that wanted nothing more than to neglect her, Nova's life had no meaning. Being called, Dirty Girl in 4A, she closed her heart and ears to anything that she felt would bring her pain. Luckily, life has greater plans for Nova, as she later becomes a two time multi-platinum singer. She is using her lyrics to heal the pain, but she's missing the most important aspect of life, happiness. When tragedy strikes too close to home, she's forced to be all alone, until she meets KeJuan Carter.
Twenty-nine year old KeJuan Carter is eye candy to the ladies in Tallahassee. Born and raised in Miami, Fl, Juan leaves Miami, once trouble catches up with him. Juan visits his brother Courtland for the summer and becomes mesmerized by Nova. Juan gets caught up in the middle of Courtland's drama and does something that could possibly ruin any chance he had with the woman he fell in love with at first sight.
Will Nova forgive him and open her heart? Or does her past hold her hostage to the point that she's too numb to feel the love he so desperately wants to give her? In the first installment of The Beat of my Heart, you will see a man fighting against all odds to nourish a broken woman back to happiness.
Wow. Nova had a really hard life growing up. One tragedy after another. She grows up and finally finds some happiness when Juan reconnects with her after all those years. Her girl Dream has been right there with her through it all, and Savion came into her life and help her overcome her low self-esteem issues. Secrets and lies start coming out and everything starts to change for Nova. That ending really shocked me. I wouldn't have never thought that would happen. How will she handle it, or will she be able to?
Nova experienced an extreme amount of pain & heartache growing up. Mama Dean was a Godsend. Dream was a dedicated friend throughout. I'm hoping Juan & Nova make it. Plenty of wow moments throughout the story especially at the end. Good read that has me looking for the next part
I felt so sorry for Nova. She endured a lot that she shouldn't had to go through. Her momma was terrible and deserve to rot in jail. Her and the man who raped and killed her sister. I'm glad she gave Juan a chance. I hope finding out his Dad is the monster she hates will not ruin their relationship. Awesome book.
I didn't know what to expect but this is a good read
I like Nova. I wish she didn't deal with so much bs. Juan is the perfect fit for her. I was a little iffy on Dream at first but she is a good friend to Nova. That last part of the book had my mind blown. I'm ready to read part 2 because I know it is going to be juicy.
I feel so bad for Nova having been though so much n her younger years I hope she can let go of the skeletons n her closet & be happy with Juan he's trying to stand by her & help her cope with her past I can't wait to read part 2 my girl Kia Meche did it again her pen game is dope
I can't wait to read part 2 of this part The pain and suffering went thur as a child and still some how remaining sain shows the strength in her. I'm glad dream was a good friend to Nova... Juan just sounds yummy
Nova had it rough. It's sad sometimes that people don't see how strong they really are. I was glad that Juan and Nova got together. I wish that Dream would get out of her own way so she can be happy. I can't wait to see what happens in part two.
This was a good behind story. How much more pain did Nova have to take? With a mother like hers who could afford enemies. Justice was a true piece of work and between all of these secrets amongst the parent who knows what's about to be dropped next.
Kia got me with that cliffhanger!!! Wow this book was excellent and had me emotional. I could not put it down! Juan's dad has to go and I am really torn on Court land although he also deserves whatever karma gets him! Great read! Will Nova and Dream get their happiness in part two?
This book was such a good read. I was in so many emotions reading it. I laughed, I cried, I gasped.... My heart aches for Nova!!!! She has been thru so much yet she rises. This book has so many surprises!!! I never seen any of these things coming. I love Juan and Savion!!!! They have showed Nova and Dream love does still exist and they have built them up and remind them they are special and beautiful and deserve happiness. The only issue I had with the book was the typos. I can not wait for book 2!!!!
This was a great start to a series. Justice needed to be killed. What type of mother allows that? I guess the drugs takes away any type of rational judgement. I love how Juan came in and open Nova's heart. Dream and Savion are great together. Juan has a lot of trifling people around him. Especially his father. Never saw that twist coming.
This girl went through a lot. Her relationship with her mom man that was crazy. All to often we have moms in this world that ain't fit to raise a ant. With Chrissy passing you wonder how much can she deal with life. Thank God for her boo Dream. That ending though...
OMG, there was so much going on. It seemed as if no one could catch a break! I love the man that Juan was. He was always there for Nova despite his own issues. They were perfect for each other. I'm glad that Dream finally found some happiness. The story was well written. I can't wait for part 2!
This book was good from beginning to end! Poor Nova can't catch a break. Its so much going on and I can't wait until everything is revealed. That ending made my jaw drop. How? What? When? So many questions! Great read!
This is the second book I have read from this author and I was impress . Poor Nova every time she feels like her life is going positive something else occurs. She had death in her family then her friend is injured from a gunshot wound . I has to buy book 2 because I wanted to know what happens with Dream and Savion. The ending was just not expected.
