Ted Darling #8

Walk On By

Rate this book
Compelling, character-led police procedural crime thriller with a distinctly different type of detective in the lead role.

It's a big operation and a complex one. With the Big Boss out of action, Ted's in charge of one part of the enquiry, a robbery and brutal stabbing of a woman in a car park. But overseeing it all is a senior officer with a serious grudge against Ted. One who'd stop at nothing to take him down.

Then another face from the past turns up, needing Ted's help. One whose presence can only mean trouble of a serious kind.

'Sell the Pig' is the first in a series of travel memoirs describing how Lesley, writing as Tottie Limejuice, decided to make the move from the UK to France to start a new life, taking with her an 89-year-old mother suffering from vascular dementia. The story continues in three further books, 'Is That Billinge Lump?' 'Mother, Was It Worth It?' 'Biff the Useless Mention', and 'Angling Bumateurs'. There's an additional standalone prequel to the series, Trot On!, about her time running a holiday riding centre in Wales, before her move to France.

Lesley is also the not-so-secret writer behind the pen-name of Carl Granger. The book Looking for Lulu is darker crime fiction.

Lesley is a former journalist, working as both a criminal court and coroner's court reporter. She also worked as a case tracker for the Crown Prosecution Service, and for a firm investigating irregularities in offshore finance. Her other jobs have included owning and running a holiday riding centre and acting as a 'charity mugger', lying in wait to sign up shoppers for a wildlife charity.

Lesley's interests centre around nature and wildlife and encompass dogs, wild camping and organic gardening. She lives in the Auvergne region of Central France and holds dual French/British nationality. Her current dogs are two rescued border collies

Erm wow I don't actually know where to start so I will start by saying this is the seventh book in the series how the hell did that happen?! Seriously this author produces such excellent quality stories in no time at all. It only feels like yesterday since I read the first book in the series Baby Got Blue Eyes in each book the plot thickens and the characters grow from strength to strength. and in this story I really feel like I actually know them has real people and could happily have a green tea or two with Ted.

For those of you that haven't read this series DI Ted Darling lives with his partner Trevor....yes they are gay which for me makes this a unique series something that is totally different to other crime books that I have read. But it might not be everyone's cup of tea. These guys are certainly the stars of the show and make a brilliant strong couple.

This can be read has a standalone but I recommend you read the series with this story we get a whole new insight on the characters personal life and family woven in with police procedure. Ted finds himself in charge with the big boss out of action. The story starts off with a robbery and a brutal stabbing of a woman. He really has his work cut out with a senior officer who has a grudge about Ted overseeing the cases will stop at nothing to take Ted down.

OMG what a story with a start to the story that will have you hooked until the end. This book has been sitting on my pile for far to long and I really wish I had read it sooner I flipping loved it.....OMG and that ending! I seriously cannot wait to read the next book.

Has always I love Lesley's style of writing making me feel that connection with the characters. This book has a brilliant plot and what I like to call an easy read and it would make a wicked TV series.

I highly recommend Walk On By giving it 5 massive stars.

Thank You to Lesley for a copy in exchange for a honest review.

Masterpiece

Well worth waiting for! I absolutely loved it
Quite literally 'unputdownable'. Started & finished within 24 hours.
Arguably the best DI Darling book to date. The main abs sub plots are carefully interwoven & the characters are completely believable.
I just hope Ted 8 is nearly ready!

A real page turner.

Lesley Krier certainly knows how to weave an intriguing story, and this one did not disappoint.
DCI Ted Darling and his team have a murder, a credit card scamming group, an assault, and even a bent cop to deal with. As usual, Ted handles everything in his unique style despite some opposition from an old foe.
For lovers of crime fiction, this series comes highly recommended.

Great series, well written.

Another great read in this series. Love the characters development, not just at work but also in his personal life. The story is well written and interesting and I can't wait to see where the ending in this book goes in the next one!

The excellent DI Ted Darling series by the prolific LM Krier has now reached its seventh instalment and the standard is as high as ever. Many big questions are posed in this book: Will Ted and Trev get married? Will Ted sing karaoke? Will Ted's mum move back (or bach!) to Wales? Within these parameters there is the little matter of a crime to solve and Ted is at his sharpest, and most rebellious, when he tackles the tracking down of a gang of scammers and murderers. As usual, the plot is engrossing from the start and this series continues to be one of the most satisfying in crime fiction today.

Brilliant as usual

Once again I read this in less that 24 hours. Couldn't put it down. Ted and Trev are my favourite fiction couple. Great story and several smaller cases running along side the main case. Can't wait to see him on the big screen (I hope)

Book 7 in this series.
This is another fantastic book in this series. The series should be adapted for tele it would make a great series.
Ted and Trev are always in the mix and it's no different this time. Ted has to make use of his martial arts skills during the case he is working on.
Having found his mum after so long she gets assaulted and brakes her wrist, Ted won't rest until he gets the bad guy locked up.
5* 04 August 2017.

Walk on By DI Ted Darling Book 7
I enjoy each new installment of D.I. Ted Darling and his crew, as well as his happily continuing relationship with Trevor, his one true love. There is always murder and mystery and sometimes mayhem. But it's all in the normal course of things for D.I. Darling and his co-workers. A solid team of loyal police who treat one another with admirable respect, they have a nasty superior thrown at them in this book. He hates Ted, and can barely contain his venom in dealing with him. It takes a lot of resolve for Ted to hold his tongue and his temper when facing this bully of a boss. Luckily, they don't work together on every case, and Ted takes the high road as would be expected. Less suspense in this one, but spot on police procedures. Always a pleasure, Ms. Krier.

5* well deserved.

I have enjoyed this series immensely. Wonderful charchterisation, with the creation of completely different kind of detective Book 7 has come around far to quickly and I eagerly await the next installment and my next fix of my little Darling.

As always a fast paced, descriptive and emotive story. I feel connected to the charachters and each book has been a pleasure to read x

I have read each book in the Ted Darling series, and enjoyed them all. This one also was very enjoyable, but it ends with a cliffhanger. I'll certainly read the next one, but I would have done so anyway and would have preferred a solid ending. Big fan of Ted, Trevor, and all of the recurring characters.

Well I’m late to the party on this series, but wow I’m so glad to have found it. I am so in love with Ted and Trev and want a massive cuddle from Trev! The books are upsetting in places, but so comforting in others. The relationships that have been built are wonderful and remind us all that the majority of people are nice and care about others. One of the most enjoyable series I’ve read. Bit worried about Book 9 after the cliff-hanger ending, can’t bear the idea of something happening to Trev

What a sad read

The idea of calling thus a crime thriller is a crime itself. No ebb and flow of the storyline. No real development of any character. The point of the story was never clear. The critical moment was so boring that sneezing would be more exciting. To imagine that there are six others in this series is simply very sad.

In my view the best so far in the series. An excellent story line only marred by the authors habit of repeating facts time and time again.
