Dragon Prince's Mate

Rate this book

She woke the dragons of Mars - and their prince claimed her as his mate!

Josie Conner always dreamed of going into space, so a job as a technician on a Mars colony was the chance of a lifetime. She looked forward to walking a fresh world, to solving its mysteries - but she never expected to wake up an alien, asleep underneath the planet's surface. And she certainly didn't expect the alien to be so... incredibly hot!

Verikan is tall, intimidating, dangerous, and the way his violet eyes look at her makes her heart pound. Josie soon discovers that this bossy, demanding alien doesn't intend to let her go... and as much as she tries to fight it, she can’t ignore the white hot desire his touch ignites in her!

Prince Verikan survived the fall of his civilisation in stasis deep beneath Mars' surface. Now the dragon shifter and his guards are all that remains of the Dragon Empire that once ruled the stars. His duty demands that he rebuild the empire that is his birthright, and that requires conquering more worlds - starting with Earth...

But the moment Josie rescues him from his long sleep, he knows that the beautiful, curvy human is destined to be his mate. How can he start his reign by attacking her homeworld?

When Verikan’s advisors force his hand, the dragon prince must choose. Will he save his empire at the cost of breaking her heart? Will he sacrifice his people to spare her? Or can he and Josie find a third path to save both their planets, and their love?

No cheating, no cliffhanger - just a steamy dragon shifter science fiction romance with a happy ever after!

This story takes the same themes that litter every other sci-fi romance series and adds nothing new. I was bored from the first paragraph, skimming whatever nonsense squabble the female character, Josie, had with her superior. By the time I got to the point where Josie accidently stumbles upon buried sleeping dragon men and somehow, on her own, manages to wake them up, I couldn't leave the story fast enough.

Unfortunately, I stuck around for a few mind numbing pages to learn that one dragonman was a prince who claims Josie is her mate and the dragon's Captain of the Guards doesn't like Josie and tries to hurt her after which she then gets to play nursemaid to the Prince. Blech. Oh and during this timeframe the Prince tells Josie they plan to overtake Earth for themselves.

Honestly, I would've enjoyed this story if it had just been presented as a powerpoint:
*Josie is an astronaut scientist.
*Josie is an idiot who disregards safety protocol and does whatever she wants while on the plane Mars.
*Josie wakes up an unknown Prince Dragonman.
*Make dragonmen bodybuilders with wings who have to have human mates.
*Include every other cliche romance element so readers will swoon.

What really shone for me about this book was the setting. I know shapeshifter romance is very popular still, but after reading a lot of it years ago I don't think I'd go for a book that didn't have a twist. Ancient culture held in stasis for a thousand years below the surface of Mars? Yes... yes, that'll do. Not to mention the backdrop of inept macho corporate culture that plagues Josie from page one to almost the end—I could immediately sigh along with her troubles.

The fact that the love interest was an imperialist dragon shifter didn't get in the way of the story being surprisingly tender. The romance may have bloomed a bit too soon for me, but it made sense in context; I just wanted there to be slightly more on both characters. Action sequences were fantastic and had me at the edge of my seat. The novel sets up for what promises to be a fascinating series of standalones with a lot of possibility; I'll be buying the next book.

Dragons of Mars is a series about Earth’s early settlements on the red planet, and I am enjoying this exciting tale!

Josie is an engineer at one of the Mars settlements. Her boss is a misogynist jerk, and she takes every opportunity to get outside the base. This should be a routine maintenance jaunt, but she finds something new.

Verikan is the Imperial Dragon Prince, and when he wakes up, his world has changed. Greed, treachery and mutiny is not what he was expecting.

This exciting first book in the series is very good, and I’ve already read most of the second book. I love it!

he was a prince that when they were under attack he was put in a pod with two others to save them.. when earth sends a ship to mars to find alien life she is the mechanic on the craft and goes out to check on some of the equipment. when she finds a crater and something down there she never thought she'd find life forms. alive even.. but when the other dragons try to take over and take over earth he has to decide if what he wants is her r to destroy her planet. the book was pretty good..

Who knew? Sleeping Beauty was really a dragon shifter from Mars

Better than average Dragon-sifter sci-fi by Juno Wells and Leslie Chase. Fine world-building, with a great back-story to explain the dragon presence on Mars. Verikan and Josie are well-matched as the fated mates, and Josie's can-do spirit is the perfect motivator for Verikan to move on from shock and loss and begin to find a new life for the surviving dragons of Mars. I'll definitely read on in this series.

I really enjoy syfi alien Dragon stories but this one didn't really kept me attention. Slow beginning and middle but picked up towards the end. Betrayal, corruption and murder from Dragon's that sworn to uphold law and bow down to the Empire and it only living Prince Verikan, all because a weak human mate turn a bloodthirsty Dragon Prince into someone to see reason.

Interesting

This one had its ups and downs. Interesting plot and good characters. A bit heavy on the descriptive sex scenes for me so be aware if that is a problem. First book by this author for me. I am looking forward to more in this series.

Dragons as aliens, on Mars- in my!

What I liked : that this book was not a first person read: and, the plot was much different than a lot of alien romances! The alien dragon Prince had no support except from his newly formed human mate. Made for interesting reading.

The story itself has so much potential, the steam was 🔥, but it was way too short and I ended up with more questions regarding the plot and the world than I’ve started with, which I don’t really like.
For this reason it’s 2,5 stars.

Not bad

The story wasn't bad. I wished I would have read it first. Other than that it's an interesting concept. Space traveling were dragons from mars.
