WELCOME TO STARLIGHT: A sweet and sexy new small-town romance series set at a family-owned pub in the picturesque snowmobiling town of Snowy Ridge, Wisconsin.
The weather may be cold outside, but things are sizzling indoors.
Wynn Foster has sworn off men. After a cheating ex-husband and an online stalker, who could blame her? Being twenty-eight years old, divorced, and a single parent living back at home with her mother, has left her feeling like a failure. Determined to get her life on track for both herself and her daughter, Melody, Wynn enrolls in the local college and is feeling more optimistic than she has in a long time.
Bryce Alexander has been in a post-divorce, hermit phase for the past year and he’s finally had enough. With a new job as an instructor at the community college and a good friend trying to reintroduce him to the social scene, he’s starting to come out of his shell.
When Wynn and Bryce’s paths cross in the classroom, the chemistry between them is undeniable. Wynn is willing to forego her relationship ban and Bryce is willing to risk his job for a chance at happiness. But when Wynn’s ex re-emerges after being MIA for over a year and demands joint custody of Melody, the drama may be too much to overcome.
With the odds stacked against them, can Wynn and Bryce still find their second chance at love? *** Look for the entire Love at Starlight series:
CHRISTMAS AT STARLIGHT – Amber & Nick (Snowy Ridge: A Love at Starlight Novella, Book 0.5) COMING HOME – Jessie & Cade (Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight, Book 1) TAKING CHANCES – Wynn & Bryce (Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight, Book 2) FINDING ME – Luci & Evan (Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight, Book 3) (coming soon)
Fans of Jessie Evans, Bella Andre, and Susan Mallery will love the Love at Starlight series: stories featuring sassy mid-western women and the alpha males who love them.
The Gist: Two individuals who've been hurt by people they love starting over.
I liked Wynn and Bryce well enough. They've both gone through a lot of emotional pain and uncertainty and it was nice seeing them starting to come out of their shells and live again. Changing their lives and growing as people.
The romance was super slow and light. Honestly until the 50% mark they'd barely exchanged 10 words even though they'd had a one night hook up with each other moments after meeting in a bar. Most of the book even after they "meet" for real again was spent with each figuring their own thing out. What was there of the romance was nice enough but there just wasn't a LOT of it.
The issues: Editing could have another go. Some wrong words used and spelling blips.
The interesting: This was one of the rare books that actually talks about male partners being abused by the women in their lives. It's a huge issue in real life that is almost entirely swept under the rug and ignored so it was nice to actually SEE that talked about and the hero dealing with the emotional fall out after going through it.
Overall Taking Chances was a nice easy read with some interesting elements. It did feel like just the start of the romance, though. I would have liked to see some actual romantic relationship "meat" and not just the little trimmings of it.
She had no choice. She ran home to be safe and to recover. She had no idea what that would all include. I love this story of a woman taking back control of her life, when it turns against her. When she has the realization she needs to make changes and stops looking for love in all the wrong places it falls in her lap. There were a few things that kinda caused this story to go south for me but I still enjoyed it and her standing strong for herself finally. She is the most passionate of the sisters so it seems but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I am actually enjoying this new author and her writing style. I do want to read more of her work and all about the 3rd sister and her finding her place in this family.
When I finished the book I was actually kind of sad I was at the end, because I absolutely loved it! It felt like a hot bath, comfy and cosy. Everyone in this book has his/her own problems, but you can feel the warmth. This book is the second book in the Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight Series. The story is about Wynn and Bryce. Jessie and Cade from book #1 are also in this book (of course, as Jessie is Wynn’s sister). I would recommend reading book #1 first, but if you want to, you can read this book easily without having read the previous book. Wynn is confident but not overly so; she is not as self-assured as her sister Jessie; it makes her all the more likeable. She is a warm and kind person. As a single mum she doesn’t have an easy life and she struggles with how to get her life back on track. She deals with all the insecurities that come with that and it makes the story feel real. It makes her easy to relate to. She is a strong woman, but she has to learn how to tap into that strength. Bryce is also someone you can relate to. He’s a really nice person but he hasn’t had it easy in life. He needs to come out of his shell a bit. And who better to help him than Wynn? I like a story so much better when I can relate to the main characters and that’s absolutely the case in this book. And you know the fun part? There is going to be at least one more book in this series. Can’t wait!
Clearly this author is a fan of HFNs instead of HEAs. Which is a shame. There were a lot of missed opportunities with the romance part of Wynn and Bryce's story and some just plain weirdness.
AND, if you read Jessie's book, a good 25% of this is a rehash of the backstory. I would have liked to have seen some interaction between Bryce and Melody, perhaps something more with how Bryce relates to her mom and sisters perhaps? Their story feels unfinished.
Wynn recently divorced moved back to Snowy Ridge, Wisconsin with her 18 month old daughter. She reconnects with her family and is working at the starlight Pub, the family business and is taking classes at a nearby community college to rebuild her life. Bryce also recently divorced and relocated designs webpages and is teaching a class in web design at the community college. Bryce meets "Sara" at a local bar and they have a one night stand. When Wynn aka Sara shows up as a student in Bryce's class things begin to get interesting. When Wynn's ex-husband Eric shown up and wants to reconcile Wynn realizes she does not want to go back to the life she had before. Reconnecting with her family and building a solid relationship for herself and her daughter with Bryce becomes most important. This is a fun read and a chance to revisit Snowy Ridge, Wisconsin.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review
I honestly didn't read most of this. I skimmed the book to see if the author developed the relationship differently than the first book. It did not happen. You don't even see the characters begin anything meaningful until after 40% of the book had passed.
I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I loved the first book. I fell in love with all the sisters. This book covering Wynn was a sweet read. It has dual POVs which I love. I continues to contain Jessie and Cade from the first book and their continuing story. Bryce and Wynn are such great characters that had a BAD first experience with love BUT they weren't afraid to give love a second chance. I so look forward to the third book (Luci's). I also hope the series continues with Cash and Cooper, Cade's brother's.
I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves a romance books.
Another great book and I read it in one sitting! I love how the Fosters sisters so readily stick together and support each other.
I like the twist of how Wynn and Bryce met and let their attraction to each other grows. It's really very sweet. I was a little disappointed when the story ended, was looking for more of the relationship between Wynn and Bryce. Oh well, hopefully I will meet them again in the next Snowy Ridge book.
Snowy Ridge is growing on me too, love how the whole town rallied and came together to raise fun for Deidre. Can't wait for the next book :)
Wynn is a recently divorced single mom who moves back to Snowy Ridge to start over with her sisters and mom. Bryce also recently divorced, is trying to get himself out of the house and back to the real world. A one night fling that neither of them can forget sets in motion a beautiful love story. The author has taken this series from completely vanilla and sweet, to closed door sexy, to open door without being graphic. I am very pleased to see that, as I prefer a bit more risqué and sexy! Check out this series!
Wynn moved home with her little girl both to start over and also help her sisters with the family pub since their mom got sick. Her ex isn't around and she has decided to get her life on track and take some courses at the community college. She meet a man one night and has a quickie, until she walks into class and find out hits her professor Bryce. Interesting thing will happen.
This book does not disappoint. It’s a little short for my liking but still awesome! The emotions and love in this book is unreal. Wynn is a single mom looking to find out what to do with her life. She moves back home to help with the pub and her mom. Does she find out what she came for or is she back where she started
Wynn moves back to Snowy Ridge a divorced single mother. Bryce works from home as a web designer. They meet in a fun way the first time but the second is in a class he is teaching. They have their ups and downs but their story is cute. The town and the characters in this book are so wonderful. Love this small town and this book.
....terrible editing. The author wove a great tale for Bryce and Wynn, but the myriad mistakes were extremely distracting. New love blooms and the couple from #1 is still going strong. Mom is getting support from her friends and little Melody is adorable. Almost makes me wanna move back to a small town.
This was a story about two divorced people who found love. I enjoyed the way the author told their story and included the characters from the first story. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
The series continues and the characters grow. A work set in the ultimate small town winter wonderland that further develops family and friend relationships as well as the romantic entanglement. You will be glad you visited Snowy Ridge!
Wynn has moved home, raising her daughter, working at Pub and now starting college. Can she accomplish everything? Story of ex wanting to take daughter to St. Louis and Wynn's new boy. What will she do? Interesting story and couldn't put it down.
This book was ok. The writing needs to show more chemistry... instead of random things like how they met was way out there. Wynn’s personality doesn’t even indicate she is this way other than the author saying so..
I loved this book, Wynn leaving Eric to find Bryce who sounds amazing. Her sisters and mom. Even with her mom sick and the girls doing a fundraiser. It shows the love of family.
I really like Wynn and Bryce it’s sweet in the mist of divorces and hookups they find each other. Wynn’s Ex has a lot of balls so it’s nice that things don’t turn out as he hoped. Quick read but good.
a fun little love story. The characters are good and the story line is easy reading and fun. This whole series would be impoved with better editing. Subjexts and verbs need t o agree and there needs to be more attention paid to words like peace and piece. Spell check can't do everything.
Actually a 2.75 raying love characters so need to read to end. But she does finishes story of the chapter and it bugs me cause I would like to know what happens.
