substitution, in the substitution methods thus far discussed, it has been
pointed out that their basic feature is that of monoalphabeticity.

From the cryptanalytic standpoint, neither the nature of the
cipher symbols, nor their method of production as an essential feature,
although these may be differentiating characteristics from the cryptographic
standpoint.
