Psychiatrist Mitchell E. Gibson, M.D., demonstrates new astrological techniques for predicting mental illness, based on his study of more than 400 astrological birth charts and the use of scientific stastical research models.
Going for my Ph.D. in psychology, I wanted to believe that Dr. Gibson was onto something. I found too much smoke and mirrors to find this book helpful. He leaves out many common psychiatric diseases: bipolar (manic depression), sociopath and psychopaths. He has in AHDH which is nebulous but I imagine helps sell the book. He has many "new terms" in his book but does not discuss their value and so on. Interesting read and may make you more aware of Marc Edmund Jones' Departments, but in the end, just as unsatisfying.
super interesting. i've never read anything like this and the way it's done with case studies and an overarching summary at the start of each chapter is soo helpful for the reader.
There were definitely some interesting new astrological perspectives, but they were oddly scientific and quite confusing, with little instruction of how to make one's own declinational chart. Also, very small groups analyzed for various mental illnesses. Still, a quick, enjoyable little read.
I loved this. Exactly what I expected: astrological components related to psychiatric disorders. I wish there was more literature on the subject. It's also written in a very kind and accessible way.
