A good introduction to people who want to automate some tasks in text processing or pattern matching, this book may serve as a jumping board into the world of programming. It doesn't get you far, but it is written in a nicely colloquial style and works on handy examples.
For a more advanced programmer it doesn't hold enough information (though the authors explicitly stated reasons for not including reference handling, object orientation and web server technology are reasonable).
