Positives: There are some very interesting recipes. I like that I wouldn't need to make my own pie crusts but a recipe for pie crust would have been a plus. This is a great country home type book. Negatives: Baklava, funnel cake and most cookies and breads don't need a description, problem is there were more than a few things I have never heard of and wish there was an explanation as to what they were. I was expecting more of a beginning or story about at least some of the recipes. It would have been fine that there was no descriptions if there were photos. That would have been fine if there was at lest a two sentence explanation of the uncommon recipes. I would recommend this. It is a good book but one of the three; photos, description or explanations would have made this a great cook book.
This book took me back to the years I spent in PA making my way biweekly out to the Amish store. We always got a hoagie made with their bread, and baked goods along with whatever produce was in season, stocked goods (nuts, candies, spice mixes), as well as house hold items ranging from hand made brooms to hand made furniture and knickknacks. I can still smell the baked goods coming from the store. I miss PA.
Has good old fashioned recipes that may grandmother's use to make. I made them as my kids grew up. I would say try this book if you are a old fashion baker.
