Modern day wizard, Felix Slade, has long guarded his deepest secret even from those closest to him. Each time Felix uses magic under pressure, he's barely able to hold on. It's as if there's a dark part of him that wants to get loose and he's afraid that if he ever lets go, there will be no turning back. To make matters worse, there's a growing part of him that wants to do just that. For Felix, life would be simpler if not for his dreams. Having been raised by positive, earth witches, Felix is unable to turn away from a cry for help. In a dream, Felix sees a young witch abused by a rogue wizard. Night after night, Felix is always too late to save the young witch as her very life essence is drained. What's worse is that Felix is losing control while dreaming, endangering friends and family as he sets fire to his home. In Wizard Unleashed, readers will follow Felix to an entirely new realm, where the mystery of his origins will finally be revealed. With the lives of the people he loves most on the line, he'll have to face his most powerful adversary ever. Himself. Interview with the Author Q - So, what makes the Witchy World series special? A - I'm an avid reader of urban fantasy and my goal was to create stories that are exactly what I love to read. My top picks favor stories where the heroes, simply put, don't quite have it all put together just yet. I' have always been a fan of witches, wizards, werewolves, vampires, and the like, who are in the process of discovering their new-found or undeveloped talents. Early on in my writing career, I received a piece of advice I haven't forgotten - love your villains. When I reflected on this, I realized that all of the best sellers followed this, now obvious, advice. As a result, I spend as much time developing my villain's reasons for doing what they do as I spend trying to figure out how my heroes will work their way through seemingly overwhelming odds. Finally, I like to mix a little romance into the storyline. For me, a good story starts with the character's relationships with the people around them. I'm also a big fan of strong female characters. In real life, as in my stories, I find strong women who know what they want to be exhilarating. Q - What order should I read the books in? A - I've written the series so you can read the books in any order. Each book is a complete story and all threads will tie up nicely by the time you're finished. Reading in order will give a slightly better context to recurring characters and I'd suggest the following As a Crow Flies (available with newsletter signup) Wizard in a Witchy World Wicked An Urban Wizard's Tale Wizard An Urban Wizard's Tale Q - So, why should readers give these books a try? A - Because the Witchy World series books are exciting tales of adventure in a world not so different than our own! Do you believe that witches exist, that werewolves prowl the streets and magic is real? Is it possible that ordinary people might possess extraordinary talents? Ultimately, readers who enjoy entertaining thoughts of the paranormal and exhilarating, fast-paced adventure will enjoy the Witchy World Series. The only male characters are the hero, the bad guys and a small handful of bit characters, everyone else is a beautiful female that has a thing for the hero.
The story is made up of badly constructed conversations, bizarre connected events and a hero that can do no wrong. I’m really not sure why I read to the end, possibly to see how the hero would get through the list of impossible situations he’d got himself into. Unfortunately, our hero survives by magically figures out a way to make it better, even when we’ve been told earlier that it’s impossible, or someone else fixes it in a way that still leaves the hero able to claim the credit.
Absolute Corruption By Absolute Power Can Be Avoided
Felix's moral compass is tried almost to the breaking point as he uses the great power of Kaelstan to smite his enemies and save his friends. I like the characters and story. The ultimate love of Felix for Gabriel is returned and well portrayed. I look forward to another book.
All the familiar characters are back as Felix undertakes a search for a missing artifact. Along the way he discovers there is more to his heritage than he was led to believe. Let's just say his legacy is a dark one, eh?
This has been my favorite in the series so far, hope to see more of Felix and the crew in the future.
In the third book of the series Felix find the answers to his lifes story and puts it to rest. These books are fun and entertaining with great characters that are hard to resist. I recommend starting with this first one, Wizard in a Witchy World, but this book will stand and on its own. Five enthusiastic stars!
I know the author says you don't have to read in order but you will get far more out of the series by reading in order. I really have enjoyed reading this series. I think this is the best book in the series. Really ties up some threads from the first and second books. I assume there will be more but if not I will look for them or more by this author.
Why... why do the books move forward but the relationship keep falling backwards. It makes no sense. Unfortunately, even though the story is good, the stupid relationship gets in the way and I don't even care what happens to his darkness.
First book was great, second book okay, (because of the relationship issues) and this book has returned to relationship issues again.
Interesting, and intrigueing with magic and romance. Something for everyone. I love the split decision making Felix had to d. I would recommend this book to my friends and family.
I like this book series. It has it similarities to Harry Dresden yet it is very different. The lines of morality are different. Felix is definitely different then Harry in a good way but different.
Enchantingly different and well worth the modest price of admission. Great potential for many different storylines, especially with the variety of supernatural beings, dimensions and probably universes in the future.
The first two were really good. I liked the depth of the characters and their relationships. This third story takes us to a whole new level. This read well worth your time. Jamie just keeps getting better!
McFarlane continues to wow me with his characterization and original story lines. Though there were some minor continuity issues at the beginning, it did not detract from my enjoyment. Eagerly waiting for the next book.
Overall a very fun rump of imagination. The plot is quick and filled with quirky characters that we all want to meet. This is the real deal, straight brain candy.
This is a favorite book that I initially read as Unlimited, when it was first released. I liked it so much that I returned to purchase it. Unfortunately, it ends with the statement, this is best told in another story, or however Jamie McFarlane states it. The sad part is a sequel was never written; at least not yet!
This is the best book in the series to date! We learn more about Felix's character (as he is learning about himself, and his past/parentage/heritage). There is action, suspense, end-of-chapter cliffhangers, and just a little romance. I like that Felix is a decent guy who has reactions to other females, but doesn't act on them because he is committed to his relationship with Gabriella. I also enjoyed the side trip into Gaeland--I've been wondering when we would see Tig, Amber, Sam, and the rest again. Crossovers? Yes, please!
Rich storytelling with an interesting cast of characters. This book wouldn't stand without reading the previous stories first. It was a fun story, but many times it felt like McFarlane was trying too many things in too many places. It is a literary juggling of cats.
I love the way the author make the characters seem ms relatable and magical. The introduction of the demon and fairy worlds were so efficient, not wasting valuable real estate with unnecessary description. The journey from book 1 till now was nothing less than epic.. A great read
