As the black sheep of the Steele brood, Micki Steele craves one thing: the love of her family. Working as a hacker for a ruthless fixer, Micki has done things she'll never be proud of. When she flees Vegas and returns to her hometown, she brings along her boss’s secrets and plenty of danger. At least until he arrives in Steele Ridge, intent on hauling her back to Vegas—or burying her in North Carolina.

Former Green Beret and family friend Gage Barber has been Mr. Fix-It his entire life, but now a war wound leaves him struggling with simple tasks. And when the mysterious and sexy Micki shows up and pulls him into the middle of her family drama, his loyalty to the Steele family is tested. Although he’s sworn off his need to play hero, his undeniable attraction to Micki leaves him with only one option—convincing her to break free of her ruthless boss.

Torn over protecting the man she’s falling in love with and her yearning for a normal life, Micki must choose between staying trapped in Vegas or a life of freedom in Steele Ridge. Even if breaking free leads straight to heartbreak…and prison.

What an AWESOME story! I loved every minute of it and hated to see it end. A great addition to the series and you don't have to read the other books to enjoy this one. Each book in the series gets better and better. So I would read them all.
This book has everything, romance, illegal activity, cute Green Berets, family life and forgiveness, action packed that will keep you reading and wondering what will happen next.

Breaking Free by Adrienne Giordano

Micki is on the run from an manipulative boss. A boss who has kept her isolated from family and dictated her every move since she was eighteen. A man who values money but has no moral values himself.
5th on the series but stands on its own.

A thriller with multiple layers that include internet hacking, traumatic brain injury, family loyalty and romance.
I really liked this book. It was fast engaging and with so much going on, no dull spots. A+.

Excerpt:
“Still with his arm around her shoulders, he squeezed her a wee bit closer. Really, he should take his mitts off of Reid’s sister. He’d been in this town long enough to know that tongues would be wagging. As soon as word got back to the Steeles, they’d close ranks and expect answers on his intentions.
Which, at the moment, were far from pure.
Micki—the girl who didn’t smile a lot—hit him with the trademark all-flash-and-glory Steele smile. That smile morphed her into a combination of Miss Joan, Jonah, and Reid. All in one. He saw bits of each of them in her—Jonah’s eyes, Reid’s carved face, Miss Joan’s nose. When Micki smiled all of it came together in one fantastic package that made the extremely male parts of him roar.”

Breaking Free by Adrienne Giordano
Steele Ridge #5

Micki Steele is ready to break away from the hacking job she has held for ten years. She wants to be free to live her life on the right side of the law. What she has done the past ten years was done for love – love of her twin brother and her family – but it is weighing her down. Her first thought was a quick visit to see her mom and then head on out but with her four brothers, sister, mother and Gage Barber see through her plot and encourage her to take the steps needed to break free from her boss for good. This is not easy and requires honesty, trust and the courage to implement the plan. With a supportive family, potential freedom and a hot guy to spend time with providing romance that could lead to forever the stage is set for…a boss that doesn’t want to let go and is willing to do anything to get his way.

It was wonderful heading back to Steele Ridge to catch up with the family and how they are doing. This series is written by three splendid authors that I hope are gearing up to tell the stories of Micki, Jonah and Evie. My guess is that there might be more books in the future but only time will tell.

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I believe this is the 5th book ( standalone) in the Steele Ridge series and I am loving all the books. They are all by different authors although this one is by Adrienne Giordano who also wrote one of the first 4 books. This is a very good suspense romance. The romance is definitely front and center but the plot is good. I have totally enjoyed getting to know all the brothers of the family and now Micki, a twin of one of the brothers gets her story! This time, she is falling for Gage, the retired Green Beret who is working for the family business. Loved all parts of this book and can't wait to read Evie's story next. Thanks to the publisher for allowing me to read this for my honest review. Love giving reviews like this.

Fantastic story. A wonderfully done romantic suspense that kept me flipping pages to find out what would happen next. When the long lost Steele sister, Micki, returns home and the secret of why she left comes to light, the Steele family once again bands together to protect one of their own. Add in former Green Beret and family friend Gage Barber and the inexplicable pull he has to Micki into the mix and things get crazy! Fast!

Don't miss this one! I highly recommend it.

Eh..this wasn't as thrilling as I thought it would be. Micki wasn't a huge mystery, she just had a huge attitude problem and kept her secrets close to the vest. Even when she seeked help from her family and Gage, she still refused to come clean and on more than one occasion showed her ungratefulness with a bitchy attitude! So while I wanted to feel bad for her, it was really hard, especially when she spent half the time hating Phil and Tomas but the other half missing them as she believes they were her pseudo family...WTF! The man practically kidnapped her and kept her from her real family for ten years, he conditioned her to him and his lifestyle! Tomas was his ever faithful watchdog and she had the audacity to go against Gage just to defend Tomas! This girl was all kinds of screwed up!

Of course she changes her tune when Phil and Tomas do something super extreme to someone she loves, but by then I was way over Micki and her shitty attitude. So unfortunately I didn't enjoy her story at all. It had its good moments, but just not enough not them to allow me to say I actually liked this book...sadly Micki's story missed it mark.

Breaking free is a great addition to the steel brother’s series. We have read about this sister but haven’t known a lot about her. She has come home with issues she must face as she visits her family for the last time before she goes on the run. On meeting Gage and the support of her family she decides to stay and let the chips fall where they may. Fall they do in this exciting thrilling suspenseful ride that leaves you holding on for dear life.

I always wondered about Micki how she became the black sheep and was glad to see she received a story of her own. I have loved all the characters in this series each story is more thrilling than the last. When I pick up one of Ms. Giordano books I know I am in for a ride of my life with interesting characters that hold you spellbound. She always gives you a thrilling ride as she has with her latest book Breaking Free. The title fits this book to a T with Micki trying to break free of the hold her boss has on her. This is a story that will hook you from the first page. I did not want it to end I just love it from start to finish. I can hardly wait for the next book.

Micki leaves Vegas heads back to her hometown to her family taking her bosses secrets with her putting them in danger in Steel Ridge.
Gage Barber is a Former Green Beret & close family friend a war injury leaves him struggling to do simple things he's a Mr. Fix it.

I've read the previous books and purchased the box set.
This is not my favorite of the Steele Ridge books.
Micki leaves home at 18, when she is blackmailed by an unscrupulous fixer. The evidence he uses implicates her twin brother in a rape he didn't commit.
Flynn, her boss is detained in Mexico, Micki seizes the opportunity to run....back home.
YES. we get it she's the black sheep of the family. She doesn't have to keep telling us she's a screw up. But she does OVER AND OVER AND OVER. One minute she's strong and the next she's sniveling about being her terrible life choices. To the point where I didn't like her much.

GAGE, her love interest, has a great compelling story. An injury while serving his country doesn't just leave him with a bullet hole scare, but also a TBI. THAT little subplot it what I wanted more of.

Disappointed, but I believe the remaining stories will continue to entertain.

Breaking Free delivers a blend of suspense, simmering romance, and familial ties. Author Adrienne Giordano crafts a compelling story with former Green Beret Gage Barber, who finds himself protecting the enigmatic hacker Micki Steele. Fleeing her dangerous past, she seeks refuge in her small hometown of Steele Ridge to see her mother and brothers one last time. She’s not expecting Gage Barber to be the one to help her fight off the man she’s running from.

The chemistry between them is immediate, even if there is a delicate dance for Gage between what he wants and how far he’s willing to push the Steele family, who are also his bosses. As the threats surround Micki, he has no choice but to team up with her and her family to get Phil Flynn out of her life forever.

The entire Steele Ridge Series is a must-read for fans of romantic suspense, but Breaking Free is a gripping tale of second chances, unwavering loyalty, and the power of love that will overcome even the darkest threats.

Finally we've got Micki's book to delve into! I was so thrilled to be able to read about her. And I love Micki! I can totally empathize how she feels being the black sheep.

Micki is making a break from the life she's lived for the past ten years. She has some deep secrets that are hard to share.
Gage is a former Green Beret from Reid's old unit that has come to help out with the training center. He's holding his own secrets as well.
When Micki's past comes crashing into the present, it'll send you on one heck of a ride!

The two together are explosive. I loved them! Mr. All-American and the Black Sheep. I really liked how their relationship wasn't all roses. There were quite a few thorns in there as well. It made me want to shake the both of them and tell them to get their heads screwed on right!

Breaking Free is a spectacular contemporary romance by Adrienne Giordano. Ms. Giordano has provided readers with a well-written book. This story is loaded with a cast of characters you can't help but love. Micki Steel was coerced into working for a man that threatened her family. When her boss is stuck in a Mexican jail and her coworker goes to get him out, Micki makes her move and escapes back to her family. Gage is a former Green Beret with a brain injury and is helping the Steeles get their business set up. Gage and Micki's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to my next book by Adrienne Giordano. Breaking Free is book 5 of the Steele Ridge Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Micki has lived in Las Vegas for ten years and is a hacker for a man, Phil, who uses people’s secrets against them. Micki is tired of it and runs ( with some damning information on her boss ) and goes home to Steele Ridge. Her twin brother, Jonah, is the reason she was sort of conned into working for Phil. Gage was in the military with Micki’s brother, Reid. They are starting a training academy. Gage is suffering from TBI but doesn’t tell his new boss. But one look at Micki and Gage knows she’s keeping secrets. When Phil shows up in town, wanting Micki to come back to Vegas, she refuses. Phil doesn’t take know and grabs Gage. Can Micki and her brothers get Gage back?

Such an awesome story. Action, secrets, and sex. No cliffhanger. Happily ever after. Two people who has a hard time opening up.

Breaking Free is a perfect companion to the rest of the awesome Steele Ridge series. This series stands out as a bit grittier than the typical family collection; life isn't easy for everyone but the Steele family fights stand up for one another and for others who they believe are in the right. Gage Barber fits right in; he is trying to keep information hidden but he will stand 100% for any of the Steeles until he meets Micki, then he falls hard. Micki has been keeping a secret from her family for ten years; now she has come home but only for a final goodbye. Gage feels that he has to do everything he can to keep her there because he is so connected to the family and because there is something special about this woman who is so obviously in pain.

Strong, loving and outstanding characters and a gripping plot with great twists highlight Breaking Free.

Wow a Heart Twisting Romance

The way that a young kid who does have enough knowledge to not trust a manipulative adult can cause a life to go down a wrong track and this story told that type of story very vividly as the young woman worked to get her life and family back into the light. I love the special forces Reid Steele and Gage . The fact that the brothers didn’t give Micki new boyfriend more grief as he may have already been a surrogate member of the family was nice.

Now I would love a little more of the other couples stories from previous books woven in a few marriages and maybe a couple of babies ... please.

Definitely need to read this book but read them in order so much better

This is such a good series. Micki is done. She finally has a chance to get away from her employer and she is going to take it. Her family can't understand why she has stayed away from home for so long. She is going to go home to see her family and then disappear. Some place where no one can find her. What she didn't count on is the feeling of home and Gage. The more time she spends with her family, the more she knows that she wants to stay in Steele Ridge. How can she tell her family all the horrible things she has done? Gage is hiding a TBI from everyone, including his family, but he sure wants to be whole so he can be with Micki. Is that even possible? Can they make is so Micki will be free and not end up in jail?

Loving this series!

Ms. Giordano had me at "Captain America"--I did have to keep pausing to picture Chris Evans while I read about Gabe, but it was totally worth it. ;)

Micki's (the first Steele sister to get her own HEA--but not the last, surely? *cough* Evie *cough* Subtle. Hint) story was a real page turner. Needing to know how in the world Micki managed to get involved in the job she did and how she'd get herself extricated from that nightmare without her or anyone she loved getting hurt had me on the edge of my seat. (Schoolwork? What schoolwork? ;))

Gabe (did I mention Captain America? Yes? ;)) is a fantastic hero--he sees Micki in a way her brothers don't--can't, really--and OMG are these two ever amazing together. I loved his voice here just as much as I did Micki's, and really look forward to seeing more of him in the other series books.

Though this is the fifth book in the series, Micki's been gone for the others, and so this one would work fine as a standalone. Fair warning, though--you see exactly enough of all four of her brothers here to ensure that you absolutely need to read their stories too!

Fabulous!!

This story will keep you engaged right from the start. It is exciting, sexy, frustrating and heartwarming. Mickie is a head-strong, independent woman who has lost herself to protect her brother. She finally decides to take action to get back her independence and self-esteem but this decision could be devastating if it doesn't go as planned. Gage is an ex Green Beret with a medical issue and he is also the best friend and employee of Reid Steele, Mickie's brother. Gage and Mickie go through some really tough times both trying to get the life that was taken from them back or at least make it manageable. I LOVED this story!!

6 stars!!! Breaking free is by far my favourite Steele Ridge book and that’s because of Micki I think she’s just such an intriguing and amazing character. Micki is so strong and her sense of loyalty so ingrained, she’s been through a lot but its only made her stronger and more resilient as a woman and person. I adored Gage I think he was such a good man who didn’t want his perceived weaknesses making anyone look at him differently when he was the only one doing that. He was the perfect man for Micki and to meld into the Steele family. I loved seeing the Steele clan and supporting characters- Grif, Carlie Beth, Aubrey, Reid, Brynne, Britt, Miranda, Jonah, Evie and Joan.

Breaking Free (Steele Ridge Book 5)
Adrienne Giordano

This is another book in a suspense filled series about the Steele family. Micki decides to go home in order to see her family one last time before she runs and hides. Not planning on meeting Gage and the support of her family, plans change and the showdown begins.
Gripping characters who draw you into their family dynamics and don't let go until the end. Can't wait to read the next books in the series. Make sure you have time to read as it is a
'can't put it down till the end.'

Another Steele Ridge hit!

Breaking Free was another hit in the Steele Ridge series. This time the Steele sibling is Micki, the sister who has been in Las Vegas for ten years. When she comes home for a visit and decides to stay, incurring the wrath of her employer, all hell breaks loose. Add in sexy former Green Beret Gage, and her oh so hunky brothers, and you have a fast paced and hot roller coaster ride of a story. Breaking Free is a not to be missed addition to the Steele Ridge series. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I loved Micki and Gage together. Micki who is prickly and tough on the outside but just scared and lost on the inside connected immediately with Gage, her "Captain America." Gage was a good hero, he listened and paid attention to Micki and her changing moods and knew what she needed before she could express it. I loved the whole Steele family and the different characters in Steele Ridge. I plan to continue reading this series.

Another great read by Adrienne Giordano!

Every time I read a book by Adrienne, they seem to get better and better! I am glad she work about the black sheep in the family because the first time she was mentioned, I always wondered what happened to her and why she doesn't come around. So glad this was the next book. I think everyone will enjoy this book! Happy reading.

The book was a lot longer than it needed to be. There were parts that were so repetitive. The plot sounded great in the beginning but the book was a little water downed for me. The suspense never made you want to hold your breath until you read through to the next page and I just didn’t feel the chemistry between to the lead characters.

The black sheep of the family comes home

Gotta say I didn’t expect the thing Micki was protecting the family from was that. Poor thing basically got groomed by an asshole. Good thing she has such an awesome and supportive family and they have really hot friends who want to help her. On to the next book!

Former Green Beret Gage works for the Steeles when Micki Steele comes home bringing all kinds of problems with her. I loved Gage and his medical issues made him feel real. But Micki got on my nerves a bit with the whole Tomas was my best friend and Phil was so good to me. I havent read the first Steele books so I was a little lost with all the Steeles.
