The Roommates series is turning out to be one of my favorites by Kendall Ryan. THE PLAY MATE is sure to become a HIT! This second installment focuses on the ”romance with the older brother’s best friend” trope, and boy did it have a healthy dose of steam and almost painful build up to the schmexy!!
Evie Reed has a plan. Her one and only sexual encounter with a college boyfriend had been a huge disappointment. She wants a “do over”, and Evie wants it to be with her secret crush, Smith Hamilton. He’s been a permanent fixture in her life since her early childhood years. Smith was like a second older brother when she was growing up until she reached her teenage years, and then he became the star of her naughty fantasies. While in Paris, she meets up with her brother and Smith to go over a business proposition. Evie’s family owns a lingerie company and it’s in need of a financial backer, which ends up being Smith. Evie plans to seduce Smith after the meeting, are ruined when he turns in for the night earlier than expected. Little does she know that he’s been having the same feelings for her and his desire for her that night was driving him insane. To avoid doing something he would regret, he chose to sequester himself in his hotel room.
Evie is not willing to give up on her plans of seduction. She ends up fooling the concierge into believing that she is Smith’s wife and is given the key to his room. While he’ sleeping she crawls into bed with him and let’s just say, she wakes him up in a way that sets him on fire. It’s pitch black in his room and he just assumed she was the woman who gave him her number at the bar that night. They are having the most erotic night of their lives until Smith realizes that it’s Evie that is laying beneath him on his bed. The brakes are put on almost instantly. Smith is stunned and a bit angry with Evie, while she is left feeling painfully embarrassed. They promise to keep that night a secret and go back to being “friends”. The only problem with that plan is now they will be working together, Monday through Friday, and how are they going to keep things platonic when they’re both so strongly attracted to each other? How will they be able to hide their feelings from Evie’s brother?
Whether you’re a fan of Kendall Ryan or have yet to read one of her books, you are in for quite a treat! I mean who doesn’t love this trope?! The slow build up to the steam is definitely agonizing but so worth the wait once it finally happens!

Evie Reed wants a do-over from a terrible first time and she wants it with her brother’s best friend, Smith Hamilton. She has it all planned out. She’ll meet her brother and Smith in Paris, have dinner with them, have him escort her to her room, invite him to her room, seduce him, then have mind-blowing sex. After a few hiccups, things were finally going her way… until Smith realizes the woman seducing him in the dark is none other than Evie.
Smith Hamilton knows Evie is off-limits. Her brother, Cullen, is his best friend, and the Reeds have been a family to him long before he found a family of his own. The botched seduction in Paris was a mistake, and Smith doesn’t regret putting a stop to it. But he’s finally gotten a taste of the forbidden fruit, and he’s not sure he wants to give her up at all.
Evie wants to forget the night ever happened, but Smith has other plans. Then Cullen drops a bomb—Evie and Smith will be helping him save their lingerie company. The two agree to see each other again, but it will be hard to keep it from Cullen and from affecting their work in the office.
I love the slow burn going on here, and I was ecstatic that they didn’t sleep together at their first chance. I think if they did, it would have cheapened their relationship. With the slow burn and long seduction, the two became sure of their positions and feelings. The sibling’s best friend trope is to die for, then add a little bit of a forbidden office romance feel to it and I’m double-dead!
The sexual chemistry between Smith and Evie is evident, but I would have liked to see their other dates. It was kind of glossed over in a bit of a fast forward.
The Play Mate is the second standalone in the Room Mate series and is told in alternating POVs. The story is filled with sexual tension, heartwarming moments between the MCs, and . A sweet, sexy, and sinful romance any Kendall Ryan fan will enjoy!

➦I've only listened to this book last week and I've already had to re-read the blurb in order to remember the storyline here. I remember this book being pretty fast paced and rather short. I also remember wishing for more of something.
➦If you're a fan of a "brother's best friend" trope then you might enjoy this one. The heroine is very inexperienced in bed and she finally decides to rectify the situation by coming onto her brother's best friend. She is under impression that it will be just this once and then they will never have to see each other again. Her plan doesn't really go as expected.
➦Imagine their surprise when they both end up working for the same company. Like, in the same office. How are they going to get past the a) awkwardness b) crazy attraction to each other. And, perhaps, the most important question of all - will there be office sex?
➦So, I guess, you're thinking "Thanks for a vague attempt at a review of this book, Maria!"
➦You're welcome, I guess. But since this was not an ARC and I have a queue of 10 more books in need of my "constructive criticism" I hereby give myself a right to produce half-assed reviews.

3.5 I didn’t know I was starving until I’d tasted you stars
Evie Knievel had one plan, fuck the man who would do her right, and then move the hell on with her life.... while Smith Hamilton has something else in mind, keep his hands off his best friend little sister. But that plan turns to shit, the moment Evie walks into the room, doesn't take much ... just Evie being Evie is all it takes.
Control, control is what he needs ... cold showers, long walks and distance ... but when their status changes from friends to co-workers, and their desks are side-by-side, temptation is just a breath away.
Can you picture it now, lust is riding them hard... Major crash and burn ahead, but it'll be worth the ride.
The Play Mate was a cute, sexy, fun read that focused on Smith and Evie. It was fast paced and had the anticipation and need to draw you in. It was sexy, but not over the top, they had a lot of internal battles to get through and lost perfectly. Recommended for when you need something on the lighter side of sexy ;)

In THE PLAY MATE, Kendall Ryan tackled one of my favorite tropes beautifully: falling in love with the brother's best friend.
Smith and Cullen have been best friends forever. Cullen's little sister, Evie, who was seven years younger, often tagged along and was sort of a kid sister to the both of them. Evie has been crushing on Smith for oh so long. Now they're all adults and after an encounter to ditch her V-card left her unsatisfied, Evie decides to seduce Smith into providing her with a do-over. Smith's a gentleman and although he finds her attractive (he downright desires the heck out of her), he rejects her advances. It goes against the bro code. Right? But how long can he resist while his attraction to Evie only seems to be gaining momentum?
The plot was predictable but the characters are what kept this story interesting. Both Evie and Smith were endearing and left me enamored with their feelings as they evolved with their relationship. I love when a connection is already established and I can believe it and that was definitely achieved here. These two shared memories and a co-existence that stood aside from what was developing between them and seemed to make what they were building that much stronger. Oh, and I absolutely adored the ending. Without giving it away, this couple was left in a lovely place and the story gave me a satisfying conclusion.

“The Play Mate” is book two in the “Roommates” series by Kendall Ryan and it is fast becoming one of my favourite series of the year. “The Play Mate” was a highly anticipated read for me as I love the ‘falling for the older brother’ trope and having said that, I do enjoy most forbidden romances I come across. So I was dying to get my hands on this naughty little treasure. If you’re looking for a fun-filled sexy read with a strong, determined heroine and a swoon-worthy hero, then definitely give this one a go.
Evie Reed has had a crush on her older brother’s best friend, Smith Hamilton, for years. She has a plan to sneak into Smith’s hotel room and have a “do-over.” Meaning, her first and only sexual experience left her more than underwhelmed and she plans to rectify that. She knows the perfect sexual partner in order to have her “do-over” with; that is Smith Hamilton.
"Somehow over the past couple of years, annoying Evie had morphed into curvy, hot-as-hell, infiltrating-my-dreams Evie, and it was slowly killing me."
Evie convinces the concierge to give her a key to Smith’s hotel room. When she enters the room, it is pitch black and she wakes him up to the surprise of his life. Evie is certainly not the annoying little sister Smith’s known most of his life and therefore has some tough decisions ahead, as Cullen is like a brother to him and he doesn’t want to risk losing that.
“The Play Mate” is such a fast paced, sexy fun read with a touch of angst and emotion thrown in. I personally love a friends-to-lovers story and this one did not disappoint. It is a somewhat of a slow burn and the anticipation almost killed me, but I was not disappointed once the story came to fruition. If you are looking for a steamy, sexy romance, then definitely give this one a go.

The Hero: Smith Hamilton - best friends with Cullen Reed since they were kids. Smith has known Evie as Cullens annoying little sister as she was seven years younger than them. Smith was in foster care as a child but eventually was adopted by a nice couple when he was six. He is now wealthy and a financial genius.
The Story: Evie’s only sexual experience was far from satisfactory so while in Paris she decides to seduce her long time crush Smith Hamilton, so she sneaks into his hotel room while he is sleeping and things start to get hot and heavy with him thinking the woman in his bed is the woman he met earlier that evening, but eventually he realizes it is Evie, his best friend’s little sis and he rejects her.
Smith and Evie end up working together to save her family lingerie company that her brother runs. Smith can’t stop thinking about how she felt in his arms. He was dreaming about her before that night and what happened just made it worse. I liked these two and they had plenty of chemistry between them. I loved all the dirty thoughts in Smiths head, he was deliciously preoccupied most of the time.
The narration, like the first book, was dual POV and dual narrators which I look for in audiobooks. It was done by Ava Erickson and Sebastian York, both whom I enjoy listening to. I like a deep voice for the male character, Sebastian has that and more, he is sone of my favorite narrators and I love Ava Erickson’s narration. She has a great voice.

This is my favorite Kendall Ryan book to date! It was exactly what I needed - light, funny, and sexy!
Smith and Evie's story is sweet and engaging. I highly recommend it!
Here's the breakdown: Smith is Evie's brother's best friend. They grew up together and have a great friendship. Her brother, Cullen, has recently taken over the family business and brings on Evie and Smith to assist him. In an attempt to have a "re-do" of her first time, Evie devises a plan with her BFF to finally seduce Smith. Will these two finally act on their feelings for one another? Will their desire ruin their friendship? You'll have to read it to find out.
What I loved: This book brought back some of the totally crazy memories my bestie and I shared during and after college. Man, the good ole days! Evie is super cute. She's young and wacky, but I loved her spirit and tenacity.
Smith. Okay, his name alone is the best. Smith Hamilton. Maybe it's me being quirky, but that's a kickass romance hero name. Plus he's a character with layers. He's not your typical hot-guy alpha asshole. He has a past and depth of character that's very endearing.
The history and relationship development was also key. It didn't feel rushed or trivial. The writing is spot on and really hit the mark.
Overall, a great friends to lovers / brother's best friend type romance. I definitely recommend it.

I enjoyed this one and the characters were both intriguing. It had a little bit of steam but honestly not too much, at least not for me, but I did really like the connection between Evie and Smith. Their story was interesting and kept me involved for the whole reading experience so I would definitely recommend it.

The Play Mate by far is my favorite Kendall Ryan novel. It is fun and sexy, and I adore Smith and Evie. They are my favorite Kendall Ryan couple and characters.
From the opening pages, I fell in love with Evie. After graduating college and backpacking, she is taking control of her life, and she is going after who and what she wants with no regard to anyone or anything. I absolutely love this about her. She isn't a complete ball buster, though. There is a vulnerability to her and an innocence to her that makes her likable. Then there is Smith. God, could he be any more perfect? Readers can overlook the standard good looks, as all heroes are drop dead gorgeous, because he is a great guy. The whole way through the book he cares about how this attraction to Evie will not only affect her but also her brother, Cullen. His consideration with others is unusual, but what is more unusual is that he isn't going to give up what he wants for others either. He correctly balances these two sides, and, God, how I love him for it. His character is truly the perfect hero.
This story is fun. It opens with some highly unethical choices, but I didn't mind it at all. The two characters have history, there is an attraction, and both characters end up being okay with it, so I am, too. The chemistry that evolves from this first interaction is electric, and Kendall Ryan takes the time to develop them as a couple. This isn't just pure smut and sex, as the couple has history and friendship, and they spend a considerable amount of time making sure that is more than just the physical. Kendall Ryan does a truly fantastic job of showcasing a real relationship dealing with complications, and I love every minute of their journey.
Kendall Ryan is one of my favorites. Her stories are quick, sexy, and fun, and her heroes and heroines are always lovable. The Play Mate is just another great addition not only to her books but the Roommates series as a whole, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next standalone novel.

5 Flirty and Fun stars
The Play Mate is a standalone and is part of the Roommates series. This is Smith and Evie’s story. Smith is Evie’s older brother’s best friend. YUP!
I love me an older brother best friend book.
After reading a few serious books, I was excited to start The Play Mate. I wanted a fun and easy going read. The Play Mate is a happy, low angst and adorable read. It’s a crush to lovers’ kind of book. It gave me all the wiggly feels and squishes in my belly as I was reading.
Evie has a mega crush on Smith. What’s not to like? With a 7 age gap, Smith is all dreamy and perfect in Evie’s eyes. I like an age gap. Can’t really explain it, since it’s not taboo really, maybe because I feel like Smith is this successful has his head on his shoulders kind of guy and Evie is still trying to find herself in the career world.
Smith can’t do anything with Evie because his best friend will kill him. But it’s kind of hard not to lust after your best friend’s little sister when you work with her at a lingerie company! Cute right? The brother, Evie and Smith all work together.
This book is a NA book, but it’s not just all steam, there’s some cute moments and a lot of character buildup. I like that Evie and Smith have a friendship at first and the way they bond is all smiles. I even like the brother! Who doesn’t like a protective older brother?
Overall, Kendall Ryan never disappoints and this is another hit for me.

The Play Mate is lighthearted and fun to read. It’s fast paced and Kendall Ryan goes straight to the crux of the story, which is Evie wanting to resolve her longtime infatuation and attraction to her older brother’s best friend. But the story is not just about her, it’s about two people who have known each other for ever, who are happy to be in each other’s lives, and have a lot to lose if they cross the friendship line.
Even though they haven’t seen much of each other recently, they’re both very much aware of one another as more than friends and when Evie decides to resolve her sexual frustration with Smith as her intended savior, going back to being friends after Evei’s very sexy an unexpected surprise to Smith’s room is impossible.
Smith Hamilton is a successful businessman with enough time on his hands to help out his best friend with his lingerie company. Having thought he could put down Evie’s visit to his hotel room as an unattainable fantasy because they rarely get to see each other, he’s shocked to learn that he’ll be working alongside her for the foreseeable future.
The story unravels from both points of view giving us insight into both their desires and evolving feelings towards the other. Wanting to respect his friendship with Evie’s brother Cullen, but unwilling to give up his time with her, they enjoy spending time together sneaking around and toeing the line, giving in a little into seductive temptation but unwilling to cross it or disclose the true nature of their relationship to Cullen. Clearly, however, their attraction grows exponentially along with their feelings for one another and something’s gotta give.

This is exactly what I needed - a lighthearted, fun, and sexy friends to lovers romance with a touch of taboo (best friend's little sister). I could not put this book down or wipe the goofy smile from my face while reading. This is book 2 in the author's Roommates series, but can be read as a complete stand alone.
Smith had me swooning from the start and I could not get enough of him. The story is told from both his and Evie's points of views, but I really loved Smith's chapters best. His inner dialogue is hilarious and honest. I was surprised though by his initial reaction to finding Evie in his bed. Seriously, wouldn't you be at least slightly alarmed to find someone in your bed unexpectedly, especially if it's so dark you have no idea who they are?!? He's got some emotional baggage, but I loved seeing those walls crumble. There's always something so sweet and magical to me about that moment when the main character opens their eyes and sees what has been there in front of them all along. Evie was also a great character, although there were times she seemed a little immature. I understand her do-over plan was more just an excuse for her to act on her long held crush for Smith, but it was still odd to me that a 22 year old would be so worried that her lady parts would gather cobwebs and wither away. The chemistry between Smith and Evie was undeniable though and I loved how easy it was between them. There was no unnecessary drama or other love interests and the only thing standing in our lovers way was themselves (and maybe Evie's brother, Cullen).
The epilogue was fulfilling and adorable and the perfect way to close Smith and Evie's story. I challenge you to finish this book without a smile on your face. If you're looking for a fast, sweet, and lighthearted book, definitely pick up The Play Mate.

I am not new to Kendall Ryan's work, this isn't my first rodeo with her, and everytime I finish her book I always think to myself, I fucking knew it. Makes me also think why I bother sometimes, I say blame the hot book cover!
Evie and Smith are your typical, I-fell-inlove-with-my-bestfriend's-sister kind of thing. You can have a front row seat and see how their relationship will grow, how they fell in love and of course we can't forget the well-known conflict of all time, when they finally tell it to the brother.
I gotta give this one a 3-star tho, only a few can pull a cliché story and make it un-boring storyline. Well written, hot and over the top alpha male coming your way. It maybe isn't sex-filled I'll give you that but fuck me if this book won't make you squirm on your seats while Smith teases you.

The Play Mate is lighthearted and fun to read. It’s fast paced and Kendall Ryan goes straight to the crux of the story, which is Evie wanting to resolve her longtime infatuation and attraction to her older brother’s best friend. But the story is not just about her, it’s about two people who have known each other for ever, who are happy to be in each other’s lives, and have a lot to lose if they cross the friendship line.
Even though they haven’t seen much of each other recently, they’re both very much aware of one another as more than friends and when Evie decides to resolve her sexual frustration with Smith as her intended savior, going back to being friends after Evei’s very sexy an unexpected surprise to Smith’s room is impossible.
Smith Hamilton is a successful businessman with enough time on his hands to help out his best friend with his lingerie company. Having thought he could put down Evie’s visit to his hotel room as an unattainable fantasy because they rarely get to see each other, he’s shocked to learn that he’ll be working alongside her for the foreseeable future.
The story unravels from both points of view giving us insight into both their desires and evolving feelings towards the other. Wanting to respect his friendship with Evie’s brother Cullen, but unwilling to give up his time with her, they enjoy spending time together sneaking around and toeing the line, giving in a little into seductive temptation but unwilling to cross it or disclose the true nature of their relationship to Cullen. Mí humilde opinión:
Smith Hamilton lo tiene todo: es inteligente, guapo y rico. Pero recuerda un momento en que no tenía nada ni a nadie, por lo que no está dispuesto a echarlo a perder, especialmente con la hermana pequeña de su mejor amigo.
Eso significa mantener a Evie a distancia... a pesar de que la una vez molesta niña, ahora es una bomba explosiva. Una rubia sexy que empuja su autocontrol al límite la noche en que ella se mete en la cama con él.
Evie Reed sabe que ha sido bendecida, con una educación exclusiva, una familia que la ama y un nuevo trabajo administrando las redes sociales para la compañía de lencería de su familia.
Pero ella quiere más, como una razón para usar la lencería sexy ella misma.

El libro se lee fácil, es divertido, sexy y dulce, tuvo algunos errores por ahí pero no dejó de ser entretenido.
Mi 'pero' es que me hubiera gustado más ritmo, fue un poco lento para mí. Me gustó como estaba yendo la historia de amor y estuve en todo momento esperando que sucediera algo más y... cuando parece moverse un poco la historia... Se acaba! Me dejó queriendo saber más, ni siquiera con el epilogo, el cual me encantó, me alcanzó.
Smith me gustó mucho su personalidad, ya cuando intento hacer una cena romántica me conquistó. Me gustó también que al final se enfrentara a su mejor amigo, le dijera lo que sentía por su hermana y algunas verdades más.
Evie era atrevida y eso me gustaba de ella, que se lanzara por lo que quisiera.
La química entre los protagonistas era una bomba, me gustaron juntos sobre todo el modo cómodo y fácil que entre ellos y las bromas.
La reacción del hermano fue por demás exagerada, entiendo que fuera sobreprotector pero era poco creíble su comportamiento.
En general, fue una linda y dulce historia aunque corta, con un poco de tensión y drama, con personajes agradables pero dejó agujeros y no tenía mucha tela para cortar tampoco.
Eso no quitó que disfrutara de la historia de Evie y Smith y esperara su final feliz.

I freaking love this series!
Okay, so everyone should get these audios because they are smutastic! Also, they have pretty likable characters and shit. The Play Mate is the second installment of the Roommates series and I'm seriously eating these up! I think each book is between 4-5 hours each? Either way, I've enjoyed them so much.
In this book you will met Smith and Evie. They both grew up having a wicked crush on one another.. and things actually start to move between them after Evie kind of seduces him one night. However, she's off limits to him. WHY? Oh that whole stupid best friend of her brother crap that they dish out every once in a while. UGH! I still don't think this code exists.. but oh well.
These two had such great chemistry and the smut was really freaking good too. I mean, I flew through this audio and just kept wishing that it would never end. Eventually there was some drama between these two .. and her older brother, aka his best friend, was eventually told about their secret relationship. Of course he wasn't ecstatic about it.. but what person would be after they've been lied to for months. Spoiler alert: no one.
Overall, I'm really happy that these two took a chance on love and came out with a happy ending. They were cute and I really enjoyed their friendship turning into a smut-filled relationship. I can't wait to dive into the next one.

From The Room Mate to the Play Mate...YASSS!! Kendall Ryan did it again. She really could deliver a story that will really make you feel good. And this is what made me coming back for more of her works and made me loving it. No matter how light hearted the story is, fast paced, no drama, you can get lost into it. That and the fact, that while reading the book, you'll get to imagine that hot bod in the cover. Let's face it, Kendall Ryan writes a beautiful and interesting blurb that'll piqued the readers interest and a hot cover that will make you drool over.
Mine did! You just do not know how I was looking forward to dive into this book and devour it. My God I've waited long enough thag until I did get my hands on it I was in heaven. My eyes were all heart when I saw the cover what with drool in my mouth. And then oops, I met Evie and I was fascinated with her. I love her boldness and if only she's real I could definitely high five her and cheer for her. Her attitude in this story is what made me even root for her. Damn! She's got the balls! This woman is not just a man's wet dream. She's definitely more. And then there's Smith! Yeah, that cover again and this man, so when I get to meet him I was all hearts in my eyes and I feel like I wanna be Evie. You cannot blame me. I love this kind of trope. That forbidden-ish story because of brother's bestfriend and younger sister thing. I just love the feels of this kind and Kendall has writen it so well. How she potrayed Smith and how the whole interaction was written is all kinds of good. There might be sexual tension even from the start but I appreciate how the author delivered it. No unnecessary drama but straight to the point perfect growth of the characters. That being said, the build-up was crafted well in a way that it wasn't rushed nor insta-love and lust or something. It's kinda sexy too but even that, she'll kill you with anticipation. But then who doesn't want anticipation when the fruit of all the hard labor in anticipating things could equal several orgasms? YASS!! because the chemistry of Smith and Evie and doing the deed is allsorts of sizzling. They really Played it well.
Overall, the story is good. I will not go into the details of the book. The blurb says it all. Yes, it's friends to lovers story, kinda ordinary to think but when you get to read the book, you'll not gonna think it that way. Kendall Ryan did a great job portraying and delivering this story. It's a quick read but it was refreshing. I was entertained and I enjoyed reading it. In fact I finished it in a matter of hours. But the feels and that smile on my face because of the passion and sweetness...the romantic side of it lingered.

The character dynamic between Smith and Evie is incredibly enjoyable and amusing! They're both beautiful and tenacious characters, and when together, they showcase how right they belong together. Their mutual attraction towards one another and their already close friendship makes their connection very alluring and explosive. But it's also Smith's hesitation towards pursuing his desires that makes him utterly charming and compassionate. Evie's headstrong characteristics and determination to go after what she wants are great attributes to read. And not just her appetite for Smith either, but with her strong work ethics to show exactly how beneficial she can be to her family business.
The Play Mate is a genuinely warm, exciting and playful friends to lovers romance. The book is thoroughly entertaining and will leave a constant smile on your face. The laughable situations and heartfelt emotions are enough to make you fall in love with Smith and Evie's story from page one! A definite 5 star must read!
