In the middle of war-torn Britain, William Arnold is forced to leave his parents and home at the age of seven years old. Frightened and alone, Billy finds himself billeted on a farm in rural Northumberland, far removed from his London city beginnings.

In the relative safety of his temporary home, the young boy adopts his new lifestyle with enthusiasm and passion, and forges a close relationship with the farm owners, Frank and Clara. Billy also discovers a rare affinity with old Abe, a perceptive man, who imparts his knowledge and expertise to his young protégé. It is soon apparent that Billy has a special gift, a talent which requires astonishing accuracy and maturity, far beyond his young years.

As the Second World War draws to its successful conclusion, London is barely recognisable as the country recovers from the aftermath of one of the largest massacres the country has ever faced. As Billy grows into a young man back home in the capital, he faces new challenges, betrayals and disappointments. With courageous determination and strength, he is not discouraged nor intimidated, and with his unwavering belief and perseverance, he strives to see his hopes and ambitions realised.

I started writing when I moved to Spain about fourteen years ago. After taking early retirement from secretarial employment, and always an avid reader, I suddenly discovered I had the time I needed to begin writing novels.
My first manuscript, 'A Twist of Fate', lay untouched for some time, but the second, 'A Question of Honour', was self-published as an e-book on Amazon (under pen name Winnie Morriss). After a while, I returned to 'A Twist of Fate' and produced a sequel, and over time, the story line gradually developed into a trilogy. The second, 'Destiny's Path' and the third, 'A Free Spirit'. 'Billy', a story about a young evacuee boy during WW2 was the next novel to be published, and my latest, 'No Looking Back', is an emotionally charged story of a young girl's struggle for dignity and self-worth. BOTH THESE RECENT BOOKS ARE AWARD-WINNING NOVELS.
All the books are available on Amazon as ebooks and paper backs.

Really loved this book. Well written. Could really identify with characters. Made me appreciate what those children went through in the war.
