My grandson (10) and I just finished reading this book (one I bought with my own money when I was in 6th grade). It is still a good introduction to ancient Greek mythology and a wonderfully retold set of tales.

This was one of my all time favorite books in elementary school. I've looked at it again recently and I think it still holds up well as a good book for a young person to read as an introduction to the basic story of The Odyssey. I know in the 1960's I would have given this book a definite 5 stars, so I'll keep that ranking. Just an aside, the whole Landmark series of books were in the main great introductions to history and were many times written by great authors such as Harold Lamb, William Shirer, John Gunter and others.

Very easy read. It gives you a break down of Homers Odyssey but in a very elementary way.

Family read-aloud. Probably not the best children’s version out there, but it’s the one we have on the shelf. Nothing inappropriate (lots of violence of course), but it just didn’t hold the kids attention very well until the last 4 chapters. I’ll be on the lookout for different retellings, but still keep this one in our collection.

My son and I both really enjoyed reading about Ulysses and his zany adventures. It’s a great introduction to The Odyssey which I will have him read in a few years. Another win for Landmark!

Another landmark book. This starts with the end of the Trojan War and continues with Ulysses journey home. It follows the Odyssey faithfully and his 20 year journey home. Well written and loved the extra information added at the end concerning the Greek Gods.

Definitely a great children's adaptation to The Odyssey. Great for older elementary kids. It leaves out anything too vulgar and will keep kids interested.
