Chandlerville, Kentucky's plans for its annual Kentucky Derby celebration come to a grinding halt when local newspaper editor, Rachel Blakely, discovers the scoop of a lifetime. She learns that her new friend’s husband, Mayor Fitz Manning, is at the center of what appears to be an illegal land investment operation. Rachel’s journalistic spirit sags as she wrestles with the win-lose decision of blowing the whistle on the mayor. When a local detective appears unannounced at her office with evidence suggesting town businesses are under attack by unusual outside forces, Rachel postpones plans to confront the Mannings. Rachel rejects seductively mysterious businessman, Jairo Aquino's offer to apply his unorthodox skills to help discover what's what and who's who. The partnership is one that Rachel is petrified to accept and afraid to refuse. Can she trust him? Does he possess the answer key? Or just the key to her heart?
Stephany Tullis is the USA Today and Amazon bestselling author of character-driven edgy inspirational fiction including The Master’s Plan, A Novel, her What Love Can Do, Angelica Mason and Chandler County Series. Stephany grew up in upstate New York and fell in love with books on her first trip to the library, influenced by her mother who was an avid reader!
Her motto, 'writing with purpose', reflects her intent to have her stories not only entertain readers but to inspire and uplift their spirits. Her readers write: " As is the norm with this author, she has a firm grasp on human nature and what makes them (people) tick.
Stephany is energized by the sun, thrives on music (all genres) and is inspired by the serenity of the ocean. She loves to travel and summer is her season. Beach-based outdoor music festivals allow her to creatively combine these interests.
I thoroughly enjoyed Stephany Tullis’s Missing Pieces. It’s the first in what’s described as a multi-branded author series (which I take to be a series written by ore than one author) and introduces us to the residents of the fictional town of Chandlerville, in Kentucky.
Missing Pieces is a romantic novella, in which editor of the local paper, Rachel Blakely, falls for Jairo Aquina, the mysterious (and possibly undesirable) stranger in town. With the restrictions of a shorter length, the complications of the romance are inevitably limited, and I felt that the story was perhaps a little light on plot. That said, there was adequate compensation in the way that Stephany Tullis introduces us to a range of characters — many of whom I’m sure I’ll meet in my future reading — and sets out her fictional landscape, with considerable skill.
To say I’m unfamiliar with Kentucky would be a complete understatement, so I was grateful for the glossary at the front of the book. But having read it, I feel that I know the area well — not so much because of the descriptions but through the well-chosen details and the author’s eye (and ear) for character. A quick and engaging read.
Missing Pieces didn’t let me down. When I started reading this short novella to kill the time on my two-hours flight, I was expecting all the elements typical of every Stephany Tullis’ stories I like: a strong and motivated lady as a main character, a mysterious and potential-partner as a counter part, a series of problems to overcome (because life is exactly that way), a low moment, and an ending that leaves me satisfied.
The story has a nice fast-pace, with engaging and vivid descriptions that depict a place in the US I’ve never been in, but it still looks familiar.
If you’re after a romantic, real story with a meaningful lesson to learn about love and life, you’re in the right place!
The world of Chandler County is intriguing. I loved the small town setting and the collection of characters that make up that world are fascinating. I liked the range of characters that appeared and their interactions. I also loved how diverse the characters, I especially liked the female police detective and Mrs Johnson, the wicked older lady, every woman wants to grow up to be. I love the feeling of community in the from the cafe scenes to the watch party for the Kentucky Derby. The speed of gossip in a small town situation also felt very believable. The writer has a lovely style, easy to read, warm and humorous and I will be looking out for more books by her.
The only reason I kept reading this book was to find out who was poisoning horses. Apparently that's revealed in another book in the series. I thought the mystery part of this story was great. The romance, though, was just not believable to me. I also had trouble keeping up with the POV. It jumped around so often. And when you add to that several characters go by so many different names/nicknames, it made the reading lots slower. There weren't too many typos so that was another positive thing. I guess I won't be finding out who poisoned the horses, though.
Missing Pieces is a quick, enjoyable novella. Trust is the main theme with interesting quotes leading the chapters. Rachel is a strong female lead who is an investigative reporter- can she trust the new mayor, her coworker or the mysterious stranger named Blue who she is attracted to? The story left me frustrated having so many unresolved issues. However, I love Kentucky and enjoyed the author's descriptions of the people ,the Derby the food, the rolling hills and the Bourbon! If you are looking for a fun escape this book is for you.
Missing Pieces (A Chandler County Novel #1) by Stephany Tullis
This series appears to have been written by different authors. Each author gets a book kind of thing, but unfortunately this one did not work for me at all. apparently the same mystery must run through all of the series because this one gave away no clues to the solution. So, therefore, no plat, very limited character development, and a love-at-first-sight that held zero interest for me.
This is my first read from Stephany Tullis and I was pulled in from the beginning. This was an exciting read with plenty of Romance, twist and turns and mystery. This is an easy flow and a page turning read. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a fantastic read.
A fast paced novella with romamce, mystery and suspense included in its interesting plot. Love reading books with strong female characters and the main character, Rachel, a reporter, certainly fits that bill in her pursue to solve what is really going on in her town. Great character interaction. A fun and enjoyable read.
This is another interesting story about love, trust, and relationships by an author with a sensitivity to the intricacies of making a real connection between people. Rachel [Ray] Blakely’s a busy woman, dealing with her career as an editor in a small Kentucky town with mysterious goings-on that threatens to derail plans for the local celebration of the Derby. That’s the Derby—as in Kentucky Derby. In walks a handsome, blue-eyed man with plenty of mystery of his own, and irresistibly attractive to the wary, ain’t-no-fool Rachel Blakely. Like so many of Stephany Tullis’ characters, her heroine’s wounded. A woman trying to make a life for herself, she’s alone but wants more. Despite her wary nature and the events unfolding around them, Rachel and her mystery man, Jairo Aquino, are forced to confront each other. Can they do that honestly? Is he hiding something from her? Does she trust too much or too little? “It’s complicated,” is an easy way to dodge giving away the outcome of this story. Yet it’s so true!

Great novel full of colour, sizzling passion, intrigue and tense twists and turns. Set in Chandlerville, and around newspaper-editor Rachel, we are caught up in the town's festivities in honour of the Kentucky Derby. Thrown into the mix are tales of local corruption involving the mayor's family, and the presence of Blue, a sexy stranger with plans of his own, who soon catches Rachel's eye. Great mix of hot romance, suspense and intrigue, and a hot-cold relationship between Blue and Rachel. Terrific stuff.
People who like romantic tales with all of its crazy ups and downs combined with subtle intrigue and heart pounding suspense cannot miss this book. Set in a small town in Kentucky enraptured by the soon to be run Kentucky Derby what can go wrong? But also what can go right? An enjoyable read with down to earth characters. More to be released in the series. Enjoy!!!
