Zoe Lake-Winters knows about paranormal entities. She’s fought so many she’s lost count. When zombies rise and come for her daughter, though, Zoe realizes that she’s about to encounter a terrifying new world that she can’t control or understand.
Word has gotten out that Zoe and her husband Aric’s twelve-year-old daughter is about to come into her own. As Sami’s mixed heritage – half mage, half wolf – comes to a head, outside factions have decided they want the child to use for their own devices.
Zoe and Aric know they’re facing a tough battle, so they agree to go to the annual wolf pack meeting in Northern Michigan. Zoe isn’t keen on the idea – Aric has wisely kept her separated from the wolves, after all – but they’re desperate for help.
Zoe knows right away that she’s not going to play nice with a bunch of overbearing wolves with ancient ideas about gender roles – many of whom blame her for Aric’s estrangement from the pack – but she’s willing to put up with it for Sami’s sake. All of that changes when a new wave of attacks hits … and this time Zoe realizes she might be trapped amongst the enemy.
Zoe won’t conform, and when it comes time to ask for help, Aric refuses to bow to the pack wishes. Of course, sometimes those who believe they have power are fooling themselves. Zoe knows she has power, and in the end, she’ll be the one with the upper hand. Unfortunately for her, Aric and Sami might not be so lucky.
A big fight is brewing, and while Zoe might have the strength to fight the war, she can’t do it alone. Disagreeing factions are going to have to come to a meeting of the minds, because otherwise no one will be left standing.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
I think this one is my favorite to date. I love the family loyalty. Zoe and Aric are devoted to each other and their daughter, but still have that snarky attitude...love it!
Having dealt with Sami coming under attack from witches determined to suck her powers from her Zoe and Aric try to resume normal family life.
Another slumber party however seems to have invited trouble when 50 zombies attack the house.. Zoe wipes them out and convinces the girls it was an over exuberant firework show.
After Sami is struggling to cope with their overprotectiveness, what 12 year old girl wants to find out that her parents are spying on her while she's at camp? No matter that Sami's friends suddenly "space out" and try to attack her.. her parents were spying and doing "something embarrassingly gross" in the car at the same time!!
While pulling Sami out of trouble Zoe grabs hold of the board game the girls were playing before things went south.. it turns out to be an old, homemade Oujda board which carries the same symbols they found at the witches house.
Failing to find out anything and feeling desperate for information James persuades them to come to the pack meet using multiple excuses.
All is not as it seems though, most of the pack resent Zoe's place in Aric's life and the wolf council insists that all three must make a binding commitment to the pack and refuse to help protect Sami without it.
Aric flips out and refuses causing major family tension. Aric would be forced to continue breeding through a surrogate to ensure a male heir and Zoe and Sami would become pack "weapons" to be used to dominate other packs, humans and paranormals alike, evil or not.
With a highly charged and highly competitive atmosphere Zoe uses her powers to keep one step ahead which only increases the tension and stress within the camp. While she's had enough playing games and trying to fit in she's painfully conscious just how little she knows, how much Aric has given up and Sami needs to learn.
When the pack itself comes under attack by rogue wolves Zoe is battling to protect not just her family but also innocent pack members from a faceless enemy.
Can Zoe achieve a wipeout without the council's help? How far is she going to have to go to ensure that the message "mess with us and I will end you!" gets through?
I know it's the final series and I'm good with that I have loved reading Zoe and Aric's journey and this final trilogy is the best so far which makes me happy because I am loving devouring the pages and a little sad because there won't be anymore but then I can always go back to the beginning and start all over again and again.
There really was so much to like about this adventure, Sammi getting to meet the wolf pack and not being that impressed, the wolf pack meeting Zoe and well we all know how that was going to go hahahaha they were not impressed by Zoe in the beginning then they hated her guts then they were in awe of her and yep her work then was done.
I really can't tell you how much I love Zoe and Aric it's beyond words they truly fit together in their own perfection and with Sammi they are their own perfect family.
I really got mad at James but boy did he stuff up and wow Sammi is going to torture him for years and I can see Helen helping her as well...lol Aric is never going to have the same relationship with his dad not after everything went down and that's all on James I guess he realises to late he shouldn't be happy with what he had.
The wolf elders really thought they could reel in Zoe and Aric and control them for their own gain bwahaha that was NEVER gonna happen but even with Zoe's snark and sarcasm I really felt she handled the situation really well.
I rated 5 stars because every summer I wait for the next three books. My summer becomes magical and I enjoy every page reading in a frenzy because these books are seriously addicting. I am never disappointed and the only regret I have is when I finish a book knowing that I am closer to the end. Ms. Lee is snarky, devious and oh so entertaining. When I read her stories, I become immersed in the characters, the action and the drama while laughing out loud. To me, these books are one of the high lights of the summer and eagerly awaited each summer. The sign of a great author is the ability to draw the reader in and Ms. Lee does that from the first page. Try one of her books, it's like a Lays potato chip slogan, you can't stop with one. Buy now and enjoy.
Zoe is not my favorite of Ms. Lee's characters, though Ms. Lee is one of my top two or three authors. Zoe and Aric's sexual innuendo and banter is often a little cloying for me, but certainly that's a matter of personal taste. Ms. Lee is a great writer, and I have liked this series, set when they are quite a bit older and with a child, much better. In any case , this book will hold your attention, especially if you're a Zoe fan. It does do a lot to develop some of Aric's past and we learn quite a bit about pack life and shifting in general. We seem to be continuing with the same set of enemies though we only learn a little bit more about them.
Bottom line? It's a quick enjoyable read for fans of Zoe Lake.
It is always a pleasure to visit with characters who feel like old friends. Zoe, Aric, and their daughter Sami are facing a new enemy (yep, again). On the advice of Aric's father, James, they spend a weekend with the wolf pack in hopes of getting answers. It was really fun to get to know the wolves and to see Aric interact with them. The wolf pack and their culture were eye opening and a huge challenge for Zoe and her snarkiness. Sami was a spot-on 12 year old - part independent, happy kid and part hormonal mess. Adding her dynamic to Zoe and Aric was really fun. Desperate Covenant was exactly what I was looking for in a Covenant novel - action, adventure, great interplay between Zoe and Aric, and tons of snark.
Zoe and Aric are back in the thick of things along with their daughter Sami. Welcome to a world of magic, mayhem, and lots of sarcasm. This time around the are going back to the pack Aric left behind, but the question is will they help and at what price? Sami is coming of age and in danger and they don't know where the danger is coming from this time around. Definitely a good read and I laughed out loud in parts, but what I loved the most was the united front Zoe, Aric, and Sami kept throughout the book. Family is everything and they will stop at nothing to keep their family safe and intact.
WOW! I really loved this installment! I like the characters even more now in this trilogy than I did in the previous series. They have a level of maturity that wasn't there previously, but they still posses the same wit, banter, and fun. The plot in this one was really engaging and brought up a topic I had been hoping for -- Aric distancing himself from the pack. Honestly, this is probably my favorite Zoe book! Can't wait for book 3!
Zoe and Aric are hosting another sleep over for Sami and as the night moves on they encounter another threat. Zoe has a feeling of dread and it turns out the threat is zombies. Sami is beside herself in the aftermath and Zoe is so worn out that she can't function. James decides to suggest they go to the annual wolf pack meeting to see if they can find answers to why they are being attacked. What they endure there is almost too much to bear.
I do enjoy Amanda Lee’s talent, she has written some really interesting tales. I do find that the recurring themes can become tiresome. I’m trying to think if she writes more like an actual person’s thought pattern, when it comes to some themes. In this series it’s often referencing that you cannot go back in time and change things. In witches of the Midwest, I find that the ongoing bacon theme is overbearing personally. But I’m hooked, onto the next book.
Three cheers for Amanda Lee! I love all her books. They are funny, exciting, sexy and have a real sense of family. Her characters are all about loyalty and families and friends. I absolutely love some of the dialogue, they make me laugh out loud and have convinced my husband that I've gone nuts!😉
Sami really came into her own in this one as a snarky Zoe. I love all of the family interactions, and Helen came into her own in this book. James was a tool, but in a great writing way and I loved the way Sami bossed him.
I really hope we see more of the wolves. Tate and Claudette grew on me and I like Lincoln instantly!
I love Zoe she is such a ball buster and bad A** . I look forward to watching Sami grow into her own. Amanda you are an awesome writer. I love the way your mind works. How you bring your characters together and how nicely they grow. I was able to get more of an insight to what Aric was felling how he grew up and why he left the pack.
Well that's two of the trilogy read/listened to and I've enjoyed them both even though not a lot of action takes place. The dialogue is very witty and and the writing good, whoever Eric , I'm sure doesn't need to swear his love so often ! I've read/heard all the covenant stories and really like the characters. Yes, recommended reading you'll enjoy it.
Book 2 finds our hero and heroine tricked by a family member into attending a wolf pack gathering. Everyone wants control of Zoe and her daughter along with a group that wants to kill and drain them of their powers. There is plenty of humor, danger, competitions, wolf "games", and angst, as Sami develops. Highly entertaining.
Love the storyline and love spending time with these characters. Hooray for first shifts and new friends. We might even get to see Rafael again. Hope, hope...
I love the whole Covenant series. I will be so sad when it ends, but for now, I'm off to start my journey with the Witches of the Midwest series... Until August 1st that is!!
This book has it all. It has Snark , Hilarious moments , and sweet moments; not to mention some seriously Kick butt scenes. I love their family unit and their bond. Excited to see how things go for Sami.
I love Zoe, Aric, Sami, and the rest of the gang!!
This story started quite some time ago and continues to deliver mystery, twists, surprises and a metric ton of snark! Can't wait for the next installment!
Love the loyalty between Aric, Zoe, and Sami. They are their own pack and that is all that matters. The unity brought forth in this wonderful tale is something that should occur in the real world!
I seriously can't get enough of this series! It gets better as it goes on. Aric and Zoe are still the same as in the first book, and Sammie is the best of both of them! I can't wait to find out who the big bad really is and how he/she gets their butts kicked!
I didn’t like this one as much as the others. I have a tough time understanding how patriarchal sub-communities can exist like the wolf pack in this book. Aside from the overly far fetched pack, the book unraveled to a weird ending.
3 to 3.5 stars, pretty much like the first book, I kinda like the banter between the main character but I can see how someone may find that inoying or winy. I like it for the most part and will look for other books by this author
I loved this book!! The sarcasm and snark is off the charts with Zoe and Sammi. Sammi is finally a woman!! The threats are always there but the family is a United front. A must read!
In a previous book we are told Aric spent an entire summer trying to reach Zoe archery cuz of Hunger Games. In this one she acts like she's never held a bow before. The author needs to work on the continuity of her stories. And this isn't the only slip I've caught.
Amanda M. Lee did it again. She made me laugh and cry through this books. I love Zoe & Aric's life and the live they shared between themselves and their family and frieds. I highly recommend this series. Although I wish she would not have changed narrators.
Excellent read. MAJOR events happening and more interactions with Arics Mother and Father as well as his pack. Sami is more than just a whinging "tween", but I'm getting tired of the ice cream reference.
Meet the wolf pack, which wants the ultimate sacrifice from Zoe. She's a boss, and always wins, so never fear! More insight into wolf politics and Aric's family dynamics. Fun to be had by all!
The twists and turns during Sami’s first shift were quite interesting! The fact that Zoe got her “man” was a bonus as well. Amanda M. Lee brings characters to life in such a way.
So Sami''s growing out of her drama tween self which is a relief, lot's changing, and a lot of excitement, and of course a bit of snark. Sad because there's only one book left in this series because it's so good.
