Roofing Ripoff: Why Your Asphalt Shingles are Falling Apart and What You Can Do About It

Rate this book
Tim Carter's newer asphalt shingle roof failed long before it should. Is your shingle roof in bad shape too? Will you have to spend thousands of dollars soon to put on a new shingle roof? Carter, founder of AsktheBuilder.com, decided to ask his 51,000-plus newsletter subscribers if they had problems too.

He was flooded with stories from people just like you from all across the USA. Tim decided to find out why shingles were failing long before they should. The top shingle manufacturers, and the association that represents them, failed to produce the answers Tim needed. He decided to investigate and what he discovered will shock and anger you.

The good news is that while writing this book, Tim discovered a simple way to extend the life of your roof shingles by decades. Open the pages of Roofing Ripoff now and allow Tim to take you on a journey uncovering the deep secrets of why your shingles, and money, are headed to the landfill.

Copper doesn’t work

I followed the advice in this book by adding strips of copper to all the peaks of my roof. It was expensive. It’s been a few years since it was done. What happened is the top part near the copper has no black streaks, it’s retaining the granuals, and the roof color looks good. However, the bottom half of the roof is not getting the copper ions and so it’s a dark ugly color. My roof looks terrible and I’m still losing granuals. There’s a new product available in my area called Renueit from Roof Savers. They will do a soft wash to clean the roof and after it’s dry they will spray it with the Renueit, which is a clear coating that hardens and extends the life of your roof for 10 years. So we will be trying that in the Spring. My advice is not to add the copper that this author recommends because it’s not going to help your entire roof.

Good Book

The author did a lot of research and I should have got my iPhone calculator out, but I didn't have to. I trusted his math. I enjoyed his articles in Washington Post. BTW I gave it a rating 5 stars - it deserves 7 stars. I recommend this book!
