Note to the reader: Betrayal is a 91-page novella that a fast reader can probably devour in a few hours.

From the author of the Amazon #1 bestselling Delphi Group series, a pulse-pounding thriller of lost identity and dark secrets.

A man regains consciousness in an unfamiliar place. He knows his name is Patrick but little else. He doesn’t know where he’s at or how he got there, only that he’s being held against his will. When he overhears a conversation between two men outside his room, it soon becomes clear he and others are being held as subjects of a dark and sinister experiment.

Using skills he didn’t know he had, Patrick escapes with fellow captive Danielle. Like Patrick, she finds her memory is mostly a blank slate, but she does remember traveling to France before her programming began.

With a professional hit team hot on their heels, the two flee to Paris, where they hope to unravel the mystery of their past. Using the only clue they have, they slowly begin to find the answers they were looking for. But as the truth is revealed and the body count rises, they soon begin to wonder if they should’ve just walked away.

Betrayal will grab you from the first page and won’t let go until the final shocking twist.

This is a short story based on the Delphi Group series. A man has woken up with no memory, in a place he doesn’t recognize. He can’t even remember who he is, or where he comes from or what he does, just a single name pops into his head, Patrick. He finds that he is handcuffed to a metal frame bed and he is not in a hospital. He is obviously being held against his will and has to try and find a way out.

He hears two men in the corridor outside his room and realise he is about to be drugged back into oblivion again, before some sort of testing will start in the morning. This could be his only chance! He manages to overcome one guard to escape, with skills that feel familiar but that he can’t remember having, and rescues another prisoner, a female called Danielle, who also doesn’t recall anything of her past.

Patrick has three pieces of information going through his otherwise blank mind and they use those to travel from where they were being held into Paris. All this time, they are being pursued by a professional hit team that want Danielle alive, but Patrick should be killed. He has to follow the only clues he has and they find themselves in more trouble than ever before. They begin to understand why Danielle is so important to be kept alive, by those chasing them.

This is book 3.5 in the series and it can easily be read alone, but now has me very interested to find out what and who were in the first three books in the series. It is a great short read, which keeps moving at a fantastic pace. A great mix of thriller and spy moves and skills at the front. I received an ARC copy of the book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion above.

First let me say that I have never read a book by John Sneeden before. Also, that I was given a copy of the book for the purpose of writing a review and am probably a little more critical than I would be otherwise. That said, I think that Mr. Sneeden writes action very well. He reminds me of Brad Thor, in fact. It is a good thing he wrote good action because it offsets some of the issues I had with the book.

First, little if any description of surroundings. It is like the story is taking place in a fog except for some minor details. Reminded me of a D&D dungeon master I knew once. "Your are in a room. There is a table and a gurney." And that was about all you got. Now, I know that this is a novella and word count is at a premium, but even a little more detail would have added color and life to the story. Same with the characters. Of course, they both have amnesia but still . . .

Second, and probably the big one, this was a Jason Bourne rip off plain and simple. It is even set in Paris for crying out loud. A guy with amnesia who has scary abilities goes to Paris seeking to find his identity while being chased by assorted bad guys. His only piece of info turns out to be a safety deposit box full of passports, money, and weapons. Sound familiar? I've already read The Bourne Identity and saw the movie.

Finally, the ending was predictable and a bit anticlimactic.

Now you might think I didn't like the story. On the contrary, I thought it was an ok read, not very deep and didn't engage the reader much, but not a waist of time.

Maisons-Laffitte, France. The Little Warehouse (Le Petit Entrepôt). Justine greeted Patrick, & Danielle.
Safe deposit box # 112. That wasn’t the 1.
So, they found another 1 that Patrick Zane Watson (spy) could access. What was inside?

What is Hugo Gustafsson, & Elias (Hugo’s partner) up to?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written spy thriller (short story) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great spy thriller movie, or better yet mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

This book by John Sneeden grabbed my attention from the beginning and didn't let go until the very end. The suspense and cat-and-mouse play were awesome. I liked how the book kind of let the reader learn about the characters as they learned and remembered themselves. What I didn't know until the very end of the book, was that this was a super spy series, and I will definitely be grabbing some of the earlier missions to add to my TBR. This is a very late voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.

I enjoyed the action in the book and the story line. I was disappointed in the length of the book and the fact that many questions where not answered. I mean there was no infor on Danielle and just what part she will play if any and not a whole lot on the character of patrick. I enjoy a good book that is complete and not spread out over several books . To me, that means author is more into money then satisfying the reader

Betrayal by John Sneeden

I wasn’t sure I would like this book when I first started reading it. Then I found myself getting more and more interested. The plot kept me guessing right up to the end. If you like spy stories and international intrigue and people in dangerous situations you will love this book.

Good job with suspense. Can't wait for more

Definitely enjoyed how quickly the story moved. Would like to find out how the characters turn out. Could have used a little more exposition on the hunters.

Short but intriguing

I usually don't like novellas, but I like this series so picked it up. I am glad I did, but can't wait to read what follows. The Delphi Group thrillers are worth pursuing.

What an exciting novella. Another fast-paced entry in The Delphi Group series. It's a lot different from the other novels in the series but Sneeden's touch is still very much in place. Who is Patrick? Who is Danielle? What happened to them and who can they trust? That story sets up, and makes us long for, no. 5 in this saga. Very well executed.
