It’s only been a year since her divorce, so why would Jane Adamson do something as stupid as attempt to date again? Wasn’t her marriage scarring enough? The answer was simple—her kids. They worried about her and wanted to see her happy again.
She needed to be happy . She needed to learn to trust again and feel pretty again and human again.
As a mom of five, it was too easy to hide herself away and focus just on her kids. Who needs men, anyway?
Join Jane in part one of a six-part journey of self-discovery, conquering the past, understanding love, and most importantly … healing, as she finds the woman she once was.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This book just about destroyed me to write. It is book 1 of a 6 part women's fiction series that deals with healing. This one is titled Drowning. There will also be-- Swimming Crawling Walking Running Soaring
And honestly, I don't know of anything I've written that is quite like this. A divorced mom of 5 attempting to heal and live again. It's definitely women's fiction and it is unlike anything from me you've seen before. It's real, raw, and gripping. It's written for any woman who's attempted to live again...
I haven't been divorced, so I couldn't personally relate to Jane, yet her experience and situation really opened my eyes to what others might go through. True, there are many, many reasons for divorce, but this a reason that occurs more than I'd like to think.
Ms. James did a fantastic job in bringing emotion and feeling into the story. I love the way it was broken up into real life and flashbacks. Jane is resilient and strong--she has to be to endure what she did and to still be a good mom. Jane's counselor and new friend (dating prospect) were very helpful in her journey and I look forward to more, to really see the complete healing cycle.
I have read some of Jenni James' children and teen books and I really enjoy her writing. Ever since she first announced her Jane books on Facebook, I have been eagerly anticipating this, her first adult book and it was well worth the wait!
Jenni James has the ability to actually make the reader feel what the characters are feeling and I certainly felt Jane's anger, sorrow, hope and healing.
I am very excited about this series and look forward to the next books.
Having been Facebook friends with Jenni James for a few years now, I have followed her own story of healing and it mimics Jane's story so much so that I feel that it must be Jenni's personal story. Whether or not it is, Jenni James is incredibly inspiring to me both as a person and through her books.
I actually quite liked this book. It isn't your typical story and I appreciated that. It is a novella, so it is short, but I had thought that there were several more. I was surprised at the end, when I went to find #2 that the author hasn't written any more in this series. If it weren't for that I would have probably considered a higher rating, but this story was written years ago and ends on a cliffhanger....where's the rest of the story?!?!?
Drowning was supposed to be part of a 6-part series, yet I am not sure if the other books have been finished. It doesn’t look like they have. I was initially a little nervous after seeing that this book has emotional abuse as a central topic. However, I am glad that I listened to it anyway. It is real and raw while simultaneously being clean. The journey of Jane gaining back her confidence and happiness is a good one because of the life that she starts to live for the first time in a while.
This book is really an amazing one. I found myself really upset with the ex-husband of the book, because I know that though the details of the book may not all be accurate, this book is the story of Jenni's life. The heroine of the story, Jane, starts out the book not believing in her own beauty or even her own worth as a person. But through her counseling session and her dates with Pierce, she comes to know that she is of worth and is beautiful just because she is a person. This is a great message, one that every woman, and man for that matter, needs to know. Thanks to Jenni for putting her life out there so that we can all learn this very important lesson. Can't wait to read the rest of the story!
Very realistic emotional journey that a mother of five goes through the first year after she divorces her husband. The portrayal of her inner self worth is so heart wrenching. I am driven to read part 2 just to see if jane can overcome the past to help find herself and her kids a better future. I want to see how the dating goes with pierce.
I didn't enjoy the book going back and forth from the past to the current. Although, probably inspired by realistic events I thought the story was kind of a downer. I think readers can learn lessons from the main character such as don't marry young, have a way to support yourself, don't have so many kids.
This was such a quick read I felt like I was just barely getting in to it and it was done. Jane is a relatably real person that you can't help but pull for. She's optimistic in the face of adversity and completely lovable. I look forward to the next part to see how her life progresses.
This is a raw description of someone coming out of an abusive relationship. The story carries us through the present and the past. The emotional upheaval of a woman trying to move on I her life. I need some resolution. Please write another installment!
Another excellent read from Jenni James! A very emotional read, I might add, bringing back some painful memories. Jenni just has a way with words which makes anything she writes entertaining. Said at 3:45 am because I couldn't put it down.
Even though the subject matter was quite serious the main character's sense of humor balances out the serious. I'm glad I read it and can't wait to find out what's next.
