After his rest in Stratton, Texas, Jess is back to doing what he does best, hunting down the worst of men. He finds himself in the town of Willow, looking for the next man on his list, Travis McClellan. After killing McClellan, he finds out that he worked for a man by the name of Theo Keene, who seems to have a grip around the necks of the people in Willow.
Jess gets in the middle of the town’s problems and then gets a warning by the county sheriff, who threatens him with jail time if he doesn’t move on. Things heat up between the county sheriff, Theo Keene and Jess.
While involved in the mess in Willow, Jess receives an urgent request from United States Marshal, Frank Reedy. He wants Jess to travel to a town outside of Denver, Colorado, to take a brutal killer by the name of Terry Treadway into custody from the town marshal there.
The only problem is, Reedy wants Jess to bring him all the way back to Stratton, Texas, for a hanging. When Treadway starts resisting along the way, Jess isn’t sure Treadway will make it to Stratton alive or draped over the saddle of his packhorse Sharps.

I've enjoyed the series with Jess as the lead character. However, the books are less than 200 pgs and the price went up. I wouldn't have minded the higher price if the book were longer or if there weren't so many errors. The book reads as if no one proofread it. Thanks for the stories Mr. Thomas, but I'm done. I've received many free books without any editorial errors in them. Only 15 errors in this book. Example: Is was a long ride. Or: I can here gunfire coming from the east. Best wishes Susan
Going for 60 or 61. I have read them all from 1 to 60 or 61. Will read them all as far as you write. My spouse got me hooked on Jess. He is gone now he was the love of my life. Wish he was here just to talk.folks if you start from 1 you will go to the next , just to find out what Jess is going to do.enjoy .JD
Thomas continues to deliver great, interesting, fast moving Bounty Hunter Western novels. I have read 60 so far and have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this author.
Terrifying story of Treadway,'s journey to Stratton as prisoner of Jess. Shadow to the rescue for Jess. Amazing how Shadow appears when Jess needs help. Very intelligent lone wolf.
This was probably the last of this series for me, although I've enjoyed Jess' stories. They're all the same... The price went up and it's a very short book...only takes a couple of hours to read. It was entertaining but now I can't see many changes and it's getting old. There shouldn't be any errors at this point in the series, but there always are. Way too many for such a short story.
Jess has to be a U.S. Marshall for most of this story. He starts another investment, escorts an insane killer to Stratton, Shadow helps, again, and Bodine decides to stop mooching off Jess.
Well written and a definite page turner. This series has been kind of up and down. I think Mr. Thomas last few books have been exceptional. As usual can't wait for the next book.
As usual the books on Jess Williams are really good. I really enjoy reading these books. I can hardly wait for the next one to come out. Thank you for a great read.
I've read all of the series, and this might be the best yet. Lots of action and a decent story line. I don't read these for their literary content, they are a great escape. I love them.
Another great adventure involving Jess Williams, U. S. Marshal is transferring a prisoner Terry Treadway to Stratton, Texas where he's to be hung for at least twelve murders. Jess is having a very difficult time with this prisoner, who demonstrates psychological problems, he's been known to bite and eat human meat. Everyone had to be very very careful around him because he was known for those types of attacks. Jess Williams true to his nature of helping the man or woman struggling to put food on their tables and keep a roof over their head, Jess will inquire about the individuals and makes a determination/decisions to aid these people with financial aid. That's what happens in this adventure. He doesn't judge but he tells them he knows he doesn't have to help them, but they all appreciate and respect Jess Williams...and so do I. His timber wolf, Shadow also makes an appearance to help with getting Treadway back to Stratton. Shadow gets along with Jess's horses and you know that's "strangely eerie" but you always keep an open mind. There are lots of strange things going on and that bridge that links the spiritual world with reality will always exist.
