She doesn’t sling arrows, only attitude! The adventures of Jonesy, the teenage cupid with a penchant for plaid, continue here. Stuff still rules, high school still sucks, and getting anyone to fall in love with her is still impossible! Collects issue #5-8.
don't ask me why i read volume one of this short comic series in 2017, and seven years later i'm here to read the remaining volumes...
it's a fun and cute series about devious and chaotic young jonesy, who has magical love powers. much of the story is also about her spunky besties and their shared shenanigans. the art is adorable, packed with poppin colors and stylish outfits.
the story itself is episodic, issue by issue, and i think a longer story arc would be an improvement. however, the volume finishes with the introduction of a new rival, which might make things interesting in the third and final installment!
my biggest takeaway from reading this is how much my tastes have matured since i started this series. it feels much more like a kids' comic, now that i'm old.
Jonesy, our resident cupid is back again, this time with even more hilarious jinks, love and romance going all bonkers, friendship, and more!
I am guessing I read part of this already, things seemed really familiar to me. Maybe I continued reading? Eh, I wouldn't know. Sometimes I remember stuff from years ago, sometimes not. This one is a case of I recognise things, but not sure how or why. :P
Anyway, back to this volume. The first two chapters are about Jonesy and how she managed to get Stuff to her little town (of course using her powers, but in a very creative way). I have to say that I wasn't that wooed by Stuff. I don't know, I just didn't like him and how he acted all aloof but was in fact quite controlling and a jerk (as seen when he tries to force Jonesy in wearing a costume and to pick him over her best friends). But it was quite funny to see Jonesy try to flirt (and epically fail, you would think with all those videos she would have at least a bit of a notion on how to flirt :P). I also loved her conversations with her grandma, and I do hope that we will see some more of the amazing dress and its powers (as I am sure it has powers).
In the next chapter Jonesy's mom makes an appearance! It is time for quality day with mummy dearest, but Jonesy is definitely not looking forward to it. At least she can bring her friends with her, or at least her mum has invited them. I did feel sorry for Jonesy. I can imagine that she may not want to spend time with her mom, and I also don't get why they (her parents) are forcing her. I understand her mom wants some quality time, but come on. If your daughter is so against it? But I guess in the end it was a good thing they got some time together. It was quite a good chapter, giving us more insight in Jonesy's family. I didn't even know there was a mall jail, my word, I am glad I am not in there, clowns. *shivers*
The last chapter is about a concert and about Susan (also, Susan, baby, wrecking your guitar is not going to be a good idea) who has a writer's block and decides that when nothing else works, the only option is to sneak into a concert of her idol and ask her about magical tips. Of course there is magic involved, any chance for Jonesy to use her powers. You know how she is about her powers. :P Dang Cee Cee has some amazing hair, now I want some tips on how she gets her hair to be that amazing and poofy.
I want to wish Susan good luck, I hope she is able to start a band, with her interesting and funny lyrics, I am sure she will be a hit.
Also a new rival or enemy appears? Landon? He has secret love powers! Oh My! Oh my!
Jonesy, I liked her much more in this volume. Yes, I am still not sure if I like her using her powers for her own gain, but eh, if I was a kid/teen with powers, I am sure I would have used them as well like that. Even if it was to try. Plus, she does get a good lesson when it goes wrong, now if only she would learn from it.
I am still unsure how Jonesy got her powers, I am guessing it is passed down from grandmother > mother > daughter, or in case of no female descendants to the next female descendant? Then again, how did it work for Landon then? Maybe reverse, male descendants?
The art is still vibrant and fun, and I just adore the expressions on the characters.
All in all, I need the third volume of this series. I need more Jonesy. More love powers, more silliness, more music, more gorgeous art.
More fun Jonesy. This volumes revolves around Jonesy's obsession with a pop musician named "Stuff."
This particular plotline is not my favorite. I'm much more interested in the doughnut shop, zines (which, granted, are largely about Stuff), and her superpower hijinks. But it's still solid.
Cute, but not that much stood out from the first volume, but that could just be due to my dislike of STUFF. Enjoyed the interactions with her, her mother, and her friends.
Fairly predictable story; I enjoyed the eye-popping colours and that this is a story of a girl and her mistakes and growth as she figures out friendship and family and responsibility.
Jonesy is one of the best comics I ever read. It's so funny, fun and has so much heart. If your wanting a story about a Latinx lady it's hard to go wrong with Jonesy. The books lovely, queer, and fast paced.
Re-read 2023: I lowered my rating of volume 1 upon re-read (from 4 to 3 stars) but this one still holds up. The issue featuring Jonesy's mom was a highlight.

This series is so adorable I can't even handle it. Like other BOOM! titles it features effortless diversity (our MC is latina, her best friend is POC, queer, and in an f/f relationship) and it has a vibrancy to it that's so refreshing.
The story follows the titular Jonesy, a young girl who has the power to make people fall in love (with other people, but also with ideas and inanimate objects) - the only catch is that she can't make anyone fall in love with HER. That doesn't stop her from making her all-time crush, the famous singer/performer Stuff, from falling in love with her hometown so that she insinuate herself in his life. Too bad he's also kind of a jerk!
The art, mirroring the story, is very bright, colourful, and hyperactive. The character designs are very stylized and remind me of Saturday morning cartoons. It's a perfect fit for this series which focuses on its humour and over-the-top premise. Humphreys manages a good balance between humour and heart, as the last issue focuses on Jonesy and her mom (who Jonesy has resented since her parents' divorce).
Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for something light, fun and unique.
i wasn't that into the stuff storyline but everything got better when jonesy's mom appeared and explained herself and all the scenes with jonesy's wonerful friends were so cute! except for possibly being manipulated by jonesy's powers i'd love to be a character in this universe.
How do I put into words how much I enjoyed this?! I'm going to try my best. This one was even better than the first one, now that we have the premise established some really cool things happened in this second volume. Number one seeing what happened with Stuff was so enjoyable, and I especially enjoyed the bit about fan fiction coming true, and the pretend game board. Also the part with her choosing her friends and watching anime together filled my cold dead heart with joy. And then all the stuff with her mom, and going to mall jail. I was dying, I was moved, and I was loving it! Also in the last issue of the collection it's great to see how good of friends Susan and Jonesy are becoming and seeing the developing relationship between Susan and Nisha. I'm just so here for all the friendship and seeing all these friends support each other. I'm really sad now that the third volume isn't available from my library yet.
Boom! Studios has been publishing a lot of really fun comics lately and Jonesy is no different! This is the story of a sarcastic teenage girl who frequently gets into trouble because of her cupid-like ability to make people fall in love. A lot happens in this installment, ranging from trying to make her idol fall in love with her (and realizing he's really not that cool) to her dealing with family issues. This comic has a lot of heart!
Okay, so I didn't love this volume quite like I did the first, but I still laughed out loud several times because FARID! He is my fave. Also that soup/stew anime he likes, ha! Somehow this volume just felt...more serious in a number of ways than the first one? And more continuous, plot-wise, instead of episodic. And Jonesy seemed...less vindictive, which was, weirdly, less fun! Still enjoyable; I may just need to adjust for volume 3 is all.
There’s more depth and secondary character development in volume 2 and I really enjoyed it. The issue with the mom was amazing and pretty much perfect, as was the one featuring Susan. (And may I echo the mom in saying how sweet Susan and Nisha are? I just want to hug them.) I wasn’t nearly as crazy for the two Stuff-filled issues, but I loved abuelita and Susan in these.
Learning so much about OTPs and "Ships" - the young lingo! This series knocks me out. Love the multi-generational relationships, multicultural society and message of love and acceptance. Also, the technicolor, power plaids and overall wackiness=perfection.
still fun! still eye-popping! jonesy and susan have a really excellent grasp on the ingredients of adulthood! susan and nisha are hecka cute! farid is a cool chill guy! this comic is full of good vibes!
This is a really cute series. It is colorful and fun. It has a diverse cast of characters which is nice to see. I liked the story lines in this volume. I can't wait to read more from this series. This has a very whimsical feel to it. Great for middle grades and teenagers.
Diverse, feminist, LGBT 🏳️🌈 celebrating and colored like a rainbow sno-cone, but I absolutely hate Jonesy’s character. She lives as a perpetual shrieking, angry “crush monster.” I def have little girl patrons who just love it tho, and I recommend the series quite a bit. Grades 5-8.
IT WAS SOOOO GOOD UNTIL THE END BECAUSE THAT KID PISSED ME OFF WHY DOES HE WHYYY DOES HE HAVE HER POWERS TOO, ANYONE BUT THAT GUY IDK. BUT RHE BAND ANS TBE NEW CHARACTERS WERE SUPER COOL, IM TRYNA SEE JONESYS NEW CRUSH AGAIN FR.

A unique series showcasing a very busy graphics design that is just bursting with vibrant colors. If you like color, you will love this! Stories are cute. The thing I love the most about it all is Jonesy’s beautiful voluminous HAIR!! Check it out…❗️💝
Oh Farid. I loved the "I'm chill. I'm cool. I'm chill." I feel like that's what's in my head all day every day. And I liked that Susan basically got her own issue. Yay!
Jonesy volume 2 is just as funny and ridiculous as the first volume. If you enjoyed the love gone wrong antics of the first volume then there is more here for you.
