My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!! I haven’t bought it yet, but I will!
The cover is another fabulous one that fits right in with book 1! I highly recommend reading this series in order because it is much more awesome in depth and knowledge of characters.
This book had me from the first page! I love how it is a mix of everything I love in the paranormal world! There is action galore, treachery, strife, shifters, faes, magic, and more! I love both Kaye and Darius because they kick butt and have each other’s backs. We meet some old friends, some new friends, and yep lots of enemies! I don’t want to give anything away, so I won’t!! You need to read it for yourself!
I love this world that Catherine has created for us! She is one of my favorite authors, and I know I will enjoy reading it before I start!
I highly recommend this book and series to all the paranormal fans out there because you will find everything you love here!
Catherine Vale was probably one of the first authors who solidified my love for paranormal romances, a thought that is often confirmed with each new book of hers that i read, and i try to read each of her books as they come out. Magic Burn is the second instalment from her Shifting Magic series and we get to meet Kaye and Darius as Kaye tries to survive the many targets on her back.
4 breath taking dreams
I was an unexpected adventure - i didn't expect to feel such a strong connection with Kaye. The girl who strives to survive with what feels like the world is against her resonated with me. And the fact that Darius refused to leave her side and protected her back no matter what was a quality that i don't think Kaye was used to nor was expecting. I enjoyed this adventure, liked the bond that was building between these two characters and liked revisiting past characters we had met in the previous book. One this is for sure, i'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
Darius & Kaye are back and the fight against Abramelin is on; and what great action! And the twists, so much happens, new developments, lots of excitement!
This installment was definitely action packed. It was great to see all of the different clans band together. I enjoyed watching the characters evolve and find themselves and the relationships blossom. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.
Thrilling, magical and romantic. This second installment has the characters racing to save the shifter clans before it's too late. I loved how action paced the story was but also how we were able to see more into the characters themselves. I look forward to finding out what happens next. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Shifters from all over along with more supernaturals come together to wage war against a common enemy. More secrets are revealed. More adventure, action, and twists and turns to be had. This story has it all and keeps you in their world from the very first page to the last. Catherine Vale really rocked this story once again.
I think this series is becoming on of my top reads of 2017! This book picks up where the 1st left off with Kaye,Darius and Zayne and the supernaturals fighting the warlock who want shifters dead. During this her best friend joins the group, she meets Darius' family and lots of surprises to keep the reader on the edge of their seat!
This series is a packed full of action, surprises, and the love story of Kay and Darius. Their story is there but it's not the main point. They're 2 people who know they belong but the way they are together just make you go awww. This is a must definite must read!!! And what will happen next I can only imagine but will probably be totally wrong! I received a copy under no obligation, this review is all my own thoughts.
Magic Burn by Catherine Vale is book 2 in her Shifting Magic series. In this book we are reunited with Kaye and Darius as they work to stay alive against the onslaught of a man who is bent on destroying all the shifters for a crime he perceives to have been done by a shifter. But first he's going to destroy as many shifter sympathizers as he can in the process. Kaye has been reunited with her brother Zayne and become a part of his militia to fight against Abramelin. Since learning of her half shifter heritage Kaye is determined to put it to good use and use her abilities to really bring the fight. Now it's time to warn the shifter clans and try to bring them together or at least gain some recruits so that they can fight and stop the onslaught of the Archmage. It wont be an easy task but Kaye knows that she must do her best if she is to save those she loves. Along the way Darius is reunited with his clan where he will soon take on the task of being Alpha in place of his father and leading his clan into the future. But first...war is coming and survival is paramount for the future. Magic Burn is the second book in this engaging series and it really hits the ground running the minute you start reading. I really like how the author doesn't jump out of the hive and to another location with the beginning of this book but time has passed. Kaye is learning spells and how to manipulate and control her dragon heritage. There's no real way of knowing what all she will gain as she becomes more aware of her other side but she'll learn as time goes by. We also get to see Kaye develop as well as she is thrust into a position of power by her brother when he sends her on a mission to recruit more shifters if she can and to fortify the protections for those who choose not to fight and those who can't. It's not an easy role for her because some view her as just being given this because of who her brother is but she soon begins to prove herself and gains respect. I like that we get to meet Darius's family and even get to experience some of what his clan is like. I like that each clan is different that they encounter but I also really like that some are preparing for war and not letting it creep upon them unaware. This story is really engaging from start to finish and has you turning pages and before you know it the book has ended and you're looking for more. I love it. There are so many moving parts to this story. There is some romance in it but not just between Kaye and Darius which I like and it adds some humor to the story as well which I like. War is at hand but you know that they are going to give it their best no matter what. I received a copy of this book to review but I really enjoyed reading it so much that I purchased a copy of it. If you read the first book in this series and enjoyed it then I highly recommend that you take the time to pick this book up and read it as well. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series. Two thumbs way up. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I pre-ordered this book, but had a chance to read a free advance copy so I jumped at it. I love reading books before release day. Sadly, my life interrupted my reading schedule so I'm not finished with this gem.
Even though I'm only half way through, I am enjoying the sequel as much as the first story, Magic Fire: an Urban Fantasy Novel (Shifting Magic Book 1). I am never disappointed by Ms. Vale's storytelling. I love how Ms. Vale balances all the elements in the story. We don't have too much time spent inside the character's heads and there is plenty of dialogue--good dialogue, not the stilted stuff that makes my eyes bleed. I love the way things are described in just enough detail to get the picture but not so much you start skipping paragraphs.
Update 6/8/17: Life finally allowed me to finish the book. I enjoyed every minute of it and was not happy when I had put it down. Both Kaye and Darius are great main characters. I loved their relationship and its slow buildup. I love how it’s not insta-love, non-stop sex. Another think I loved was how they supported each other throughout the story--with the militia, in battle and with their families. The mutual respect was obvious.
As with the first book, I also enjoyed the secondary characters, Catriona, Hayden, James, and Leda. They all brought a smile to my face.
I can't wait for Magic Blaze (book 3) to be available.
Writing quality: Excellent Violence: Some Sexual content: None Narration: First person Plot: Some twists Mood: Hard to categorize: Hopeful, Light-hearted, Suspenseful, Pace: Steady Character development: Developed
Kaye, her brother Zayne, and her dragon Darius emerge from Zayne's underground hideaway to recruit others to their cause of stopping Abramelin, who is out to destroy all shifters. Kaye is so far removed from the life she has enjoyed up til this point. Her work as a psychologist, hanging out with her fae sisters, just plain, regular life. Now, she is honing new powers and skills, training with an army, and fighting for her life and the lives of others. It's not the life she asked for, but she won't back down. The #1 goal is to stop Abramelin. Goal #2 is to recruit other supernaturals and shifters that they should work together. Kaye also has to deal with the bomb dropped on her about her mixed heritage. She has to connect with the other side of herself. Another pressing issue is the relationship between Darius and her, war is not an easy foundation to jump start a relationship. Tends to be awkward. Darius also faces some obstacles in book 2, wherein he connects with his family, he has to answer for his absence, and take his rightful place among them. So, both characters experienced personal and emotional growth throughout the book. The relationship between Darius and Faye didn't progress much physically but emotionally they grew. There were some skirmishes, villains were revealed, a battle, a victory, reunions, and loss all tangled up in this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and was not compensated in any way.
I would highly suggest to read book one before reading this book. Catherine Vale has been doing a wonderful job with this series.
In book one I felt Kaye felt a lost and out of place. Toward the end of the book she was just starting to get her footing in life and a sense of belonging. In this book we get to see a real growth in Kaye. The confidence she has is amazing. She is ready to fight for shifters and magical beings. She is a true leader and ready to lead the fight.
Oh sexy Darius, he is a dragon shifter you will not forget. At the end of book one we got to see where he got his wings back. In this book we get to see how strong the bond between him and Kaye really is. Darius will do what ever it takes to help keep Kaye safe. These two are falling for each other fast but this is not strange for fated mates. We will also get to see the strength and leadership Darius really has.
The war is heating up and danger is all around. During the story of the war you will truly get to see Catherine’s creativity. Her creativity really comes out in this series. There are a few surprises along the way and there are times your heart will really break. There are some touching moments in this book and there are times you want to jump in the story and help out.
I truly loved this story and look forward to reading book three.
Kaye has joined her brother Zayne in the war against Archmage Abramelin, who is trying to eradicate all shifters. As it turns out Kaye is half dragon herself. Kay is accompanied by Darius, full-blown (and swoon-worthy) dragon shifter. As her band of warriors travels to warn shifter clans of the upcoming battle; they are attacked by gargoyles and other magical beings.
They first travel to Darius’ dragon clan, where they find his alpha father is weary and ready to pass the baton of leadership. The largest dragon clan they then travel to holds the largest surprise, and we find ourselves caring more and more for this intrepid band of warriors.
Danger-filled, magical journey both physically and emotionally for this great cast of characters. Looking forward to more of this series!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Survival. That's the goal. Kaye (the fae) has a new mate, a gorgeous dragon shifter, and has found her brother--and been living in battle mode. The humans and shifters are being attacked by a villain who wants to rid both worlds of shifters. Her brother, Zayne, heads the army to protect them. Neither man is excited about her fighting with them, however, she is in danger as well. They have to get the others to join the battle to rid the world of their common enemy. Will they succeed?
This second offering in the series is full of action, emotions, and family working against a strong common foe. If you love PNRs of all kinds you won't find a better book. Gargoyles, fae, archmage, and more. You've got strong women and men who fight against evil. All the best parts of the genre. I don't know how she's going to resolve this in just one more book, but I can't wait. This is my honest review of this advance reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
Kaye's life has changed so much in a short period of time. She found out she is half-fae and half-dragon shifter and agreed to fight with her brother against the warlock that is trying to destroy the shifters and any others that don't agree with him. Kaye also found someone that is meant to me her mate, Darius.
I highly recommend you read the books in order. This book picks up right where the last ended. There is so much action and adventure. Kaye is just starting to learn how powerful she is and has gone from being a psychiatrist to leading others in a dangerous war. Her relationship with Darius is fun and kind of light-hearted and playful. It is something they both need as a break from all the danger. There is a big surprise towards the end that really changes things for her. I am excited to see what is next for them all.
After reading the first book in the series I was eager to get my hands on next book .The minute I could I digged into this book and omg It was fantastic . Magic Burn was such a fantastic read !! it was sexy , fun , magical and filled with twist and turns that I did not see coming. This book was just spectacular. When I finished reading book 1 in this series I thought to my self what could happen next ? and reading Magic Burn was almost like a silent reminder saying that I haven't seen anything yet lol ..... this series is just going to continue to get more and more awesome as the each book comes out and Iam so thrilled to be along for the ride with Kaye. If you have read book 1 in this series and you are wondering if you should continue the series answer is yes ! go pick up this book as soon as you can !!!
Magic Burn Shifting Magic Series Book 2 by Catherine Vale Kaye Allister has learned she is half dragon and half fae. The war with the dangerous Archmage continues and Kaye has learned quickly how to use her powers. Leading a group of the resistance against Archmage Abramelin places her and her friends in grave danger. This fast-moving story takes you into the magical war and characters are revealed that are both friend and foe. Kaye must learn to make snap decisions to protect her troops as well as take her closer to ending this magical war. I got lost in battle scenes and in scenes depicting the growing feelings she develops for her Dragon. Fast paced story full of lots of adventure and lots of character involvement and feelings. I am most assuredly looking forward to book 3.
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. I was looking so forward to this book, the second in the series, and it did not disappoint! The story picks up right where Magic Fire ended. What I love about Catherine Vale's writing is that it is seamless. The fight scenes flow, and do not get bogged down by verbose descriptions. I adore how main character Kaye and Darius progress as a couple. It's cute, and organic. Kaye finds her footing as a leader, and you are cheering for her every step of the way. Par for the course with this writer, the world building is engrossing, and each new character introduced is a great addition to the series. I highly recommend this series, for those who like action packed paranormal romance. I eagerly await August for book 3!
While I don't usually enjoy story arcs for main characters that spread across multiple books but I have to say that this one has kept my attention and I was happy to see what progress everyone made. Kaye, Zayne and Darius are all back along with many great supporting characters. There is lots of yummy shifter and magic goodness as we continue to learn about Kaye and Darius' new life together and the battle between good and evil. Don't want to give away too many specifics but let's just say that lots of things happen and you will enjoy the ride. Can't wait to read the next book and see where things end up. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Difficult to read. Difficult to follow. Difficult to continue.
CV's writing is difficult for me to read and follow. Too much punctuation? Incorrectly used? I'm not sure. I say, it's ok to breakup those mile long sentences! I hate having reread sentences multiple times just to get the jest of it. I stopped reading another of her books for the same reason.
One second I feel like the writing is grown up and characters are acting grown up and the next we are in high school.
The romance is pretty non-existent outside of a couple of "mate" declarations.
And I was bored, therefore I lost interest and connection to the characters. I don't think I'm going to continue this series . . .
Oh my what an exciting and epic adventure! This part 2 in the shifting magic series and wow was it awsome Kaye is a half fae, half dragon shifter. Darius is a dragon shifter who saved her in the first book and knows she is his mate. Now together they have to hunt down some allies to help her half brother and his people fight an evil warlock set on distroying anyone who will not join him. I LOVE the characters, they are amazing and so well written. The twist and turns in the story are great and the mystery is awesome i can't wait for the nextra book!. Don't miss this one Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
In this second installment of this terrific series Fae/Dragon shifter hybrid Kaye, her Fae half brother Zayne and Dragon shifter Darius are off to war. The wicked Warlock Abramelin is determined to wipe out shifters of any kind and thinks that Kaye is an abomination. Zayne is the leader of the resistance and sends Darius and Kaye to rally shifters to the defense. Along the way Darius and Kaye grow closer and we find out a whole lot more about each of them. I love that the author is not rushing their relationship. This story rocked from the first page to the last. But I have to say Spiders ewww.
The shifting magic series continues and as with the first book this one does not disappoint, Kaye had an unexpected revelation in book one and there are more surprises in store for her yet ! with a whole array of shifters and magical beings will they learn to stand together and fight the maniacal Abramerlin or will the Psychopathic Archmage succeed in the shifter genicide he has planned ? With a steady flow of danger and attacks it's looking like Darius and Kaye may not get the opportunity to explore their budding relationship. An enjoyable read that easily absorbs your attention, I look forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed this book. The relationship between Kaye and Darius deepens as they begin their journey, gathering allies, and eventually coming face to face with the enemy in this book, where the forces for good and evil meet in an exciting battle. I love these characters as well as the supporting characters. As I mentioned in my review of Magic Fire, book one, the writing style is very action oriented, which I really like. There's humor, a little romance, and plenty of action in this story. I can't wait to read the next installment.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Magic Burn by Catherine Vale is the second book in the Shifter Magic Series and not a standalone. Please read first , Magic Fire, book one. Magic Burn picks up where Magic Fire ends. Kaye´s goal is to survive- a warlock sent gargoyles to kill her. She´s forced to search for a dragon clan, who should help her in the war against the army of darkness. These book contains PNR beings, demons, fae, goblins, gargoyles, shifter and many more. I greatly enjoyed reading this PNR story and can´t wait´ll the next installment releases. I give 4,5 Stars and thank you Catherine Vale.
4.5 Stars This is the second book of this three part series. It was just as engaging as the first. There is nonstop action from start to finish. We get to know Darius' dragon shifter family and Kaye gets to know a little more about herself. Plus the connection between Kaye and Darius grows. I just love all the different supernatural beings. They're so intriguing and it creates such a magical world. With the big battle looming who will be left standing? I'm so looking forward to the final installment.
This installment of the shifting magic series contains everything you could possible want ! Shifter comrade roe, gorgeous dragon's, hybrids, evil mages, gargoyles and even witches! The action is packed into these pages making the pages zoom by. This author did a beautiful job of illustrating the growing bond between Darius and Kaye, as well as keep a spark of interest going between Catriona and Quinn. Love the battle scenes! I felt fully immersed and had to find out how everything played out!
We're back with Kaye and Darius as they fight against the evil Archmage out to destroy all shifters.
It's action packed from the opening scenes. In this instalment we journey along with Kaye and Darius as they work to warn the shifter clans of the impending battle.
Kaye is her usual self, strong, competent and an all around lovely person. Her thoughtfulness and insistence that what is happening in their world is wrong and to do something about it makes her an easy character to love. With Darius by her side I couldn't help but believe that they'd succeed.
This book is a continuation of Magic Fire with Kaye and Darius continuing there fight with the evil in the magic world. Follow the story as we find out how Kaye, Darius and Zayne bring all magic shifters together to fight he evil, along the way we find out things about Kaye you don't see coming. His book is filled with strong women alpha men and more emotions. The characters are full of life and you never know what could be coming next. The magic flows right of the pages to your heart with this book would recommend this book to everyone.
Kaye the Fae and Darius the dragon join forces with many other supernaturals to fight the evil mage who wants to destroy so many things they care about. Things have changed so much since we met Kaye and Darius in the first book of this series and yes they should be read in order to understand the story and how they reach the point they are at. Kaye and Darius face many new challenges in this book as well as trying to make their relationship work. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This is the second book in there series and is just as action packed as the first one! Picking up right where the first book ends we get to see more into the characters and watch them face new challenges. There were several OMG moments that shocked me as I am usually good at figuring out the story line before it happens, but this is a good thing. I can not wait to see what happens next! I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it
Magic Burn takes us on a journey through Wonderland or Oz like places. America with magic and and shifters is a very different place. With Zayne's instruction and Darius' unwavering support Kaye is becoming so much stronger than the already confident woman she was. The battle action and mysterious creatures flavor this story but the true meat is these characters and their growth and struggle for right and equality and Love.
