The Woodsman #2

Virgin for the Woodsman

Rate this book
I thought I saw the worst of humanity in the war. I had no idea that the biggest threat to my family was lurking at home. He destroyed my sister's will to live, so I destroyed him. I knew it meant I would have to run to the edge of the earth to escape my crime. Disappearing into the Canadian wilderness definitely fit the bill. I thought I'd found a perfect refuge from the law, from civilization and unfortunately, from women. I guess I was wrong about all three. She thinks she's tracking me. Hunting me. She doesn't know I'm on her trail. With her long, flowing hair and her thick, kissable lips, I couldn't turn away. It was too much for this wild man to resist. I should have hung low. Stayed away. But, he was going to steal her innocence. I kidnapped her to keep her safe, but when she looks at me with those big green eyes I know that's a promise I can’t keep. I want to be her first and last… I want to make her mine. To protect her from a monster like him, she needed a monster like me. Book: Virgin for the Woodsman
Author: Eddie Cleveland
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 3 Stars!

Age: Abbie Hart : 22, Cole McAllister : 25-28.

Triggers: Murder, Suicide, Sexual Assault.

I kiss her like she’s my forever, my everything. Because she is.

Virgin for the Woodsman is short, steamy and surprisingly suspenseful. I didn't have a lot of expectations when I went in (except for smut because that's a given with that title), but Eddie Cleveland sure surprised me because it was not that smutty. We're hit with emotions early on and the chemistry between Abbie and Cole was sizzling. Out in the woods, surrounded by their own special brand of love, this couple fights for their whirlwind romance and find their happy ending.

It hits me, that sense of wonder that I thought I lost, the one that has been buried under years of boredom and cynicism has returned. I can feel it stir from its deep slumber when I look at her.

The whole story just fits in with the traditional lumberjack/caveman persona. For people with a lumberjack fantasy, this is right up your alley. The storyline and characters kept my interest the whole way through. I just wanted there to be something more that makes this story itself special... There were some aspects of the story that were unrealistic. It was too short and definitely cemented the fact that I prefer a longer story with more details and a slower burn. While it was well written, there were some editing and grammatical mistakes. I’m not familiar with this author’s work, but Virgin for the Woodsman was a mindless, enjoyable read with NO daddy kink.

I want to feel this way forever. I want every day to be filled with the magic of adventure. I want him.

Overall, this is a short, steamy read to lose yourself in for a couple of hours.

PS. I'm always getting confused with these editions. This book showed up as Love on the Run on my kindle and when I tried to review it, a messaged popped up saying I reviewed this version. While on Goodreads, both the editions are showing my ratings.

Eddie Cleveland has done it again. This time the woodsman gets a virgin. I simply love his bad boys!

It's funny how the world tends to work things out. Cole was a former sniper in the military. His sister was raped by a rich frat boy, who filmed the encounter and further ruined the girl's life. She subsequently committed suicide. Because his father was a senator, the rich boy got away with it. That is until Cole came home and put a bullet in his skull.

Thus began Cole's life on the run. He crossed the border into Canada and hid in a remote area outside of a town of people like him. He built a cabin in the side of hill that overlooked a cliff. He used nature to camouflage his home so well that most people would be unable to find him.

When a PI and his beautiful female assistant attempted to locate him for a million dollar payoff, things got interesting. The dirty PI attempted to rape his assistant, but his plan was thwarted by the very protective Cole.

Though Abbie was grateful to Cole for saving her from her boss, she is still afraid of him because of the profile as a cold blooded murderer. Well, she soon finds out that sometimes murder is necessary.

I love how the author created a world where Abbie had no choice, but to fall for this broken man, who was her knight in shining armor on more than one occasion. She found that things are not always black and white and sometimes people are not who you think they are. In this case it was a good thing. Of course, like all good love stories, they get their HEA!

This is the story of Cole former SEAL sniper who gets away with murder and Abbie who thought that being a P.I.' Assistant would afford an adventure away from being a political scientist. Abbie and the PI are hired to find Cole. Abbie knows nothing about PI work but figured she'd give it try. The PI is a total sleaze-ball and Cole ends up saving her from an attempted rape and exposes himself to the very people he was trying to stay away from. Abbie and Cole end up holed in his cabin. Abbie is a virgin and Cole her first lover. They have lots of hot sex, fall in love with each other. The sleaze-ball finds them and tries to kill them, he dies. They run away together and find a new life elsewhere. This was an alright read for me. From a technical standpoint the story was well written, no grammatical errors and flowed at a steady pace. 2.5 stars

I said this before in every Eddie Cleveland book review, he is good with plots, it's just the writing sometimes that annoys me at some point, not the style though because his style is recognizably good, The way he writes smut is very very graphic, the constant mention of cock and pussy makes you feel uncomfortable to the point I wanted to skip the smut part lmao!

The story is about a young assistant travels to Canada with a private investigator in order to find a fugitive who had killed someone and is living off the grid, the fugitive ends up saving her from the thirsty sex private investigator/retriever, he nurses her and keeps her safe in his house, they end up falling in love, I had an issue with a sentence in the book that had me thinking 'what the actual fuck?' and it's "Birds would shit on me" I mean no offense but isn't there a better way to describe the long wait before taking a perfect sniper shot? I am just so adamant that it could have been better described or maybe he wanted to give a laugh to some people but not me, aside from that it was good so all in all it was okay.

This story starts in a surprising and dark way! Really grabs you right from the beginning. Abbie is on an adventure. Before her mom died, she told her she wasn't really living, so Abbie is now out looking for a murderer in the Yukon! Cole is hiding out in the wilderness, he made his own cave basically to live in. He's a good and sexy and gruff man. They have both experienced loss. But found everything they need in each other. Oh this is sexy too. And kind of crazy. I loved it so much! I received an arc of this.

This is a quick read. If you like an (almost) insta-lust or insta-love story you will like this one. Add in a little bit of danger and there you go. Plus we get a HEA.
I like Eddie’s style of writing, and will be checking out his other works.

It was a fun interesting quick read. Cole the hero in the story is a former SEAL sniper out on vengeance that when he got out of his service he just got on and killed the man face to face. He knew will be after him, after all his face was seen. After doing the deed he got out of town and went to Canada on a place where he can live freely.

Turns out the man he killed was a Senator's son. The Senator hired a private detective to look for his whereabouts and enter the heroine, Abbie. After living life on a book and on the safe line, Abbie decided to live life just as her mother told her, making a risk. Abbie is a woman who is very serious and in control. She had her life well planned out but the death of her due to cancer changes everything that she became an assistant for the detective looking for Cole.Turns out the detective was a scumbag that he tried to rape her and Cole saved her.

The story was short and would recommend it to give it a try but I wouldn't say it was a light read when there is death and they did killed a person in self-defense. I guess people who tries to go into details wouldn't like it for not much detail was given about how the private detective found Cole and why he was linked to the murder when the police couldn't found him. Also the Senator's son wasn't a good person and I am sure in trying to find his son's murderer would only lead to more scandalous events that I am sure he would like to avoid. There were holes in the stories that I wouldn't recommend it to people who pays attention to details.

The insta-love and unrealistic plot would not normally have worked for me, but this was the perfect quick read for a rainy day stuck inside. The story moved along quickly and the characters had great chemistry.

Virgin for the Woodsman has suspense, murder, hot unexpected military hero, sweet and beautiful innocent young woman, great setting, danger and a happy ending. The sex scenes from the first on show the sensitive side of Cole and how much he finds Abbie special. Abbie returns the feelings for Cole once she learns the truth about him and his story touches her heart.

Cole took revenge for the death of his sister's rape and is a wanted murderer when Abbie joins a private investigator to track him down in Canadian wilderness. They end up going in circles through the woods as Cole tracks them using his skills learned in the military. Cole saves Abbie from an attack by her boss and takes her to his cabin when she sprains her ankle. They find trust, compassion, and understanding that becomes romance while Cole cares for Abbie.

They leave his cabin and make their way to Alaska and find a place to have a happy ever after ending to a sensitive love story full of surprises and great sex scenes too.

Virgin For The Woodsman is my first book by Eddie Cleveland. Mr. Cleveland has delivered a well-written book. I love the characters and overall, I enjoyed the book. There's plenty of drama, action, suspense and smokin' hot sexy bits to keep readers glued to their e-readers. My problem is I'm not a fan of criminals being the hero of a book. That's a personal preference though, so I'm trying to ignore my disapproval on that item. Abbie and Cole's story is fast-paced. I did enjoy this book and would read more from Eddie Cleveland but I would investigate first to make sure I'm not reading a book with heroes that are criminals. I'm always afraid my own morals will get in the way of an impartial review. Virgin For The Woodsman is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I have to admit, even though it took me a little longer than I'd liked for me to finish reading this novel, I loved every bit of it!! It was kind of hard for me to get through the parts about Abbie's mom, my mom is struggling with the same battle. And I pray and am very thankful everyday that my story isn't like hers. I was very grateful how the two lovebirds met and ended up together!! This novel with filled with adventure, love scenes, and excitement!!! A must read for all of you romantics!!! GREAT JOB EDDIE!!

I really love The writing of this author . He knows just how to draw you into the story and keep you interested in what's going to happen. In this story you have Cole who had to take care of business after getting home from over seas and find out his sister is dead . But leaves the country because he knows his life is over if he don't disappear . But he never expected to run up on Abbie . Abbie was out looking for Cole but things turn really different when Cole saves Abbie from a dangerous situation

I just loved this story. It was very well developed until an event that was accelerated. It was still a fantastic story. I just wished it would have been a little more developed towards the end.

Cole is hot and sexy! As you read the story you completely understand him and his actions. Abbie was just the right type of woman for Cole.

These pages sizzle!!!! I look forward to more stories from Eddie Cleveland. I love his longer stories... Because they are so good.

Steamy Suspense

Eddie knows how to keep the attraction simmering under the surface. Cole is on the run and Abbie has no one to tie herself to. Her smarmy employer tries to take advantage of her but Cole steps in. He’s never had anyone to love him and after he cashes in Abbie’s v-card, he doesn’t want to let her go. Fate has a way of helping them to their HEA.

Cole had just taken his last kill on a sniveling piece of crap. He knew he had to leave so he went up to the Yukon to get away. Abbie and her boss Cecil found out that he might be up by Whitehorse. On the plane ride up her boss was telling her about the whole mess. Walking around Whitehorse it seemed that no one knew Colt. Meanwhile Colt was in town and Big Dave told him he has to leave because they were looking for him. But, they didn’t know he was stalking them especially Abbie even into the forest. Cecil tries to attract Abbie and Cole is close enough to grab Cecil and knock him out. He grabs Abbie and takes her away with him to his little home/hideout. She tries to get away and as she is
running and feels a snap and falls down on her ankle. Cole looking around finds where Abbie is and takes her back to the cave/home where he tends to her ankle. Days go by and Abbie finds out more about Cole especially about the murder of the senator’s son. She really wants Cole but he is trying not to touch her especially when he finds out she is a virgin. Abbie and Cole stayed together tightly as she knew he would try to take her back into town. It’s been awhile and. Abbie knows she is
falling in love with him. Cole the next day left to go fishing for food and while he is out Cecil finds her and she thought he was dead. Cecil grabs Abbie about the throat as he is saying what he is going to do to her and Abbie couldn’t scream but Cole came in just the knick of time and pulls
Cecil off of her and fights him until the gun goes off and Cole had been shot. Abbie backs Cecil to the back where the cliff was and stood in front of him to let him walk backwards. Cecil grabs Abbie as she starts to fall and Cole grabbed her to keep her from falling. Abbie sees Cecil’s body
and know he is dead. Abbie takes care of Coles wound as he tells her
how to stitch up the wound. Abbie tells Cole she wants to stay with him
so they go to find another home.

Sexy short story, titled appropriately.

So, Eddie Cleveland books. For those new to this author, some things are guaranteed:

* Hot alpha male lead, typically with military training and past trauma, who may not want much to do with traditional society, and may have signs of PTSD.
* Sometimes a second alpha male, as above, for twice the fun.
* Also hot female, normally more naive and sheltered, also with past trauma.
* Multiple POV, with the character's name starting the chapter to avoid confusion.
* Unusual circumstances leading to instalust.
* Will they or won't they sexual tension build up, but don't worry...
* ...They're totally doing it. Often. With a strong focus on oral pleasures.
* Drama about whether or not they'll stay together, but an inevitable HEA, because heartbreak is never sexy.

Whew, is it warm in here, or it this book? Yeah, it's totally the book. It fits the above outline, and fills in (oh boy, does it) the blank spaces with plot and character specifics for a short, distracting, possibly one-handed read.

I like showing examples of the writing style - it was tough to find a clean enough one for Amazon standards, but here we go:

"Abbie snuggles up against my chest and I run my hand over her long hair, feeling the lure of sleep tug at me. I wish I could have this moment forever. That I didn’t need to watch her go back to civilization while I disappear deeper into the woods. However, I know that I need to do what’s best for her, not me. Right now, I’m going to enjoy the fleeting time we have together. And now that I’ve made her mine, I’m going to be sure to enjoy every inch of her as many times as I can before I make her leave my life forever. "

I have had several authors that I like recommend Eddie Cleveland's work. Well I finally read one and can't say that I was really impressed. Several unanswered questions, a male lead that is actually a criminal, and a female lead that I am still wondering why she was there trying to hunt down a criminal made for a fairly blasé story. There is some background given on each of the main characters (mainly about their lost loved ones) that seems to bring the characters together. There is a HEA for our main characters and the author did the readers a solid and gave an epilogue to totally tie up the story.

***SPOILERS (and reason for rating)***

Why did he kill the guy and not let the courts take care of him?
How did they know it was him that killed the guy?
How did they track him to that certain area?
Why would a PI with no wilderness tracking experience bring an untrained girl with to hunt down a criminal?
Why would an untrained girl go with a stranger to hunt down a criminal?

Many things in the story did not make sense. If he were a SEAL, I would think that he wouldn't have been identified and that the kill would have been cleaner then it was.

The whole story seems to be just several of the current reader favorite elements thrown together without a lot of plausible reasoning.

Love the story. It starts out suspenseful as Cole McAllister an ex sniper in the military, stalks the son of a senator. Cole losses his sister and is seeking revenge. Abbie Hart loses her mother to illness and becomes an assistant to a private investigator, following her mother's death bed advice to live life fully.

Turn of events cause Cole to skip town and go into hiding. Abbie ends up working for the man hired by the senator to track down Cole. Abbie is almost raped by her boss and is rescued by Cole. There is an instant attraction as the heat builds between them which Abbie tries to fight because Cole is the job.

Hot ex-military alpha dominant guy with a soft side for the woman he grows to care about. When they give in to their feelings there is enough heat to scorch your kindle. I loved watching their bond grow as Cole wants her to stay but knows he should give her up. Abbie wants to stay but is waiting for a sign from Cole. It is wonderful how Eddie Cleveland is able to bring this story to an HEA with all the twist turns and drama to get there. A great read.

****Spoiler Alert*****This story left me with more questions than answers. How did the authorities link Cole to the murder? Was the bullet used linked to a gun he owned? Did a neighbor see him leaving the scene of the crime? All of this was glossed over and left unanswered. How was a private detective who seemed rather clueless able to locate him when obviously the police had not?
The fact that they managed to live happily ever after in Alaska in a nice 3 bedroom home and produce babies when this man is wanted for murder? Come on...really? Please don't assume your readers are stupid.
With that being said. I did like the characters and the cyber-bulling-suicide-roofie topic is timely. this story just needed more info and a closure that made sense.

Great story with likeable characters. The chemistry between Cole and Abbie is incredible and passionate. I absolutely love a rugged mountain man who is there to save the damsel in distress.

My only negative with this book is I feel like it didn't have full closure. Yes, there was an HEA but Cole and Abbie will always be on the run. That's sad.

Another great Woodsman story by Eddie Cleveland

Gee, this ex-serviceman can write!
I would love to give this story a 4.5, as I love a redemption story, and love to see scumbags get their comeuppance, but this story questioned my perception of an ethical dilemma!
I loved Cole's back story, and how he was portrayed with honour and dignity, moving forward.
Of course, in true Cleveland fashion, we are served up plenty of passion, steam, love, and loyalty, with highlights of drama thrown in.
Worth buying!

Great story! Cole was an amazing human being. I was deeply hurt when I found out what happened to his sister. Abbie is an inexperienced girl trying to find her way in the real, unpredictable, messy world. Together they are perfect. The only thing that is starting to irk me is when the H doesn't want the h to leave but won't come out & say and vice versa. It has me screaming at my tablet for them to get a clue. Lol!! Of course, they eventually do & my blood pressure returns to normal 😉

Original concept, where the good guy really is a murderer.

This one's surprise me, the hero of the story really did kill someone in Cold blood. There's no proving at the Innocence or even trying to claim it was self-defense. Going on the run means going for keeps. I had no idea how Eddie Cleveland could ever wrap this story up into a happily ever after. Well written with fascinating characters. I would love to see more of their story.

This is my first book by Eddie Cleveland. Although I enjoyed the story, the descriptions of nature and the characters, it didn't seem plausible. He was a sniper, a trained killer, a Seal. How did the Senator know who killed his spoiled degenerate son? Take that out and you have a Virgin who never really lived, a Seal lonely on the run and you have an explosive combination.
