What if everything you knew about human evolution was turned on its head?
When fourteen-year-old Gem loses her amber necklace at her new boarding school, in the sleepy sea-side town of Eastbourne, she and her friends are only concerned with retrieving the precious, family heirloom – little do they know they will be drawn into a world of conspiracies and cover-ups as old as mankind. Together with archaeologist, Cessi, Americans Jack and Mac and a strange girl with an identical necklace, Gem and her new friends must keep the truth from being revealed – IF that is what they truly believe they should do.

(Previously writing as Diny FvK) Diny currently resides in the sea-side town of Eastbourne on the supposedly sunny south coast of England, with her husband, three daughters, a lame German shepherd and 2 murderous cats.

After a successful career as a technical author and IT trainer working in and around London, she moved to Eastbourne early in the new millennium to focus to being a home educating mother.

To this day, she remembers her English teacher at grammer school in High Wycombe telling her that she had a real talent for writing and over the last 15 years, Diny has been rediscovering her flair for creative writing and poetry with many commissions under her belt.

She has been much in demand in her local writing community, running regular creative writing workshops, and has helped many local authors to publish their own books; from editing and formatting to designing covers.

At night Diny has been known to put on her stealth gear and moonlight as a paranormal investigator (which is a challenge because she is scared of the dark).

She loves to cook (but mostly eat) and will turn up anywhere that involves cake. She has been described as a 'ghost magnet' and is obsessed with alien conspiracy theories but, easily distracted by anything sparkly (and cake).

FREEN: The First Truth was her first teen/young adult novel, her second being a crime- adventure novella called Crime and Cremation.

Diny is also working on a series of educational books to help other aspiring writers and a further series for Home educators.

So I found this book in a please read me box on my daily dog walk around my neighbourhood!! Not my usual read, bit too much sci-fi if I’m honest but absolutely loved the links to my home town and really loved all the characters too, book was easy to read and kept me gripped even though the nature of the story wasn’t my cup of tea hence the 4 stars!! Diny van Kleeff's Freen should delight young readers. She comes up with some great characters who get involved in a gripping adventure full of thrills, spills and conspiracies - Heather Flood, author of Purple Mist, the Mousey Mousey series and Giant Sticker Monster and Other Children's Stories.

Diny FvK is a talented writer possessing warmth, imagination and humour as well as an appealing style - which comes out in Freen: The First Truth. She is a very good story teller and can be proud of her first teen/young adult novel. It should prove most popular with youngsters because Diny obviously knows how to engage with them. - Tony Flood, the author of fantasy adventure The Secret Potion.

A well written novel with an unusual twist. I'd heard of the Cottingley Fairy hoax photos which had fooled Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - what I didn't know was that the hoaxers insisted, till their last breath, that they had seen fairies and one of the photos was genuine. The story is based in a rather posh boarding school for girls. Are fairies real, a hoax or something more sinister? I'm not going to spoil the plot - a worthwhile read to find out!

If you enjoy Harry Potter boarding school style books and you're a Young Adult this should hit the spot. It's modern with a splash of sf, well drawn likeable characters who face adversity together.
