Julian Northbrook is an unconventional punk of the business English learning world. A leading expert in English education and entrepreneurship, he’s fully equipped to drag you kicking and screaming from English-mediocracy to speaking at an outstanding level. After being turned down for his dream job in the art industry, Julian suffered three long years as a crap Japanese speaker. He understands exactly what it’s like to feel like a total idiot every time you speak. But Julian overcame his language problems, mastered the language, and went on to work first as a freelance translator, then as an executive member of a Japanese company. But he soon grew sick of the corporate world and left to do something more satisfying - teaching people how to speak English at an extraordinary level.
A Book Review of Fearless Fluency: Speak English with Extraordinary Confidence
This book became one of my favorites because I can take this for not only speaking English but also everything. I totally agree with what the author is keep saying in this book. I think this book is better than his previous book which I read.
I think confidence is a skill which we can improve and without working for it, we can't get it. He just focus on speaking English confident, but I want people who want their lives improve to read this book. This is a very motivating book.
Yes, I know. It's terribly bad form to review one's own book.
But bear with me, because I've got a good reason.
Fearless Fluency is not a book that teaches you how to learn English. That’s what my first book, Master English FAST – An Uncommon Guide to Speaking Extraordinary English (MEF for short) was all about. In that book, I walked you through the English Mastery process, step-by-simple-step and showed you what to do as an intermediate to advanced English learner to speak extraordinarily good English. At the time of writing this book, MEF has sold more than a thousand copies in more than 94 countries around the world. The response has been, to say the least, extraordinary. But there was a problem with the book.
When I wrote Mater English FAST, I was limited to how much I could include, so I decided to stick closely to the core topic of how to Master English as an intermediate to advanced English learner. And MEF accomplished this—and continues to—beautifully. The vast majority of people who read it and did the work told me they were getting great results. But a few others said they were struggling… and all for the same reason. Confidence. Simply put, their own way of thinking was working against them. The principles taught in my first book only work if you do them… but if you're always filled with fear and questioning yourself, it's unlikely you'll take the action needed.
This is where Fearless Fluency comes in.
It's not a guide in learning English. It's a guide in learning to be FEARLESS when speaking English.
After reading the book, I feel I just read motivation book not english learning book. The principal mention on the book not only can be applied for learning english but also for else in life.
So he delivers on his promise to talk about something later in his other book. Oh, ok. (I’m talking about Chinese guy with posh British accent accourse). Anyway, this book has very little to do with language learning but it doesn’t make it bad. It helps you to get your ass in that proverbial chair or to go for a run at 5 AM even when, as one poet said. “the day is cold and dark and dreary”. There are some things I strongly disagree (eat less and exercise more to lose weight almost never works, you have to change your eating habits but I digress) and that “big decision” spiel. I found out that a better strategy is small decisions. Anyhoo, it was a nice read and I do recommend to read it if you want some good pep-talk.
