Hi! I'm Theresa.
Early on, I discovered the beauty of fictional friends. The mouse that ran up the clock, Junie B. Jones, and Harry Potter were among my earliest besties, and all taught me that I never have to be lonely. I started writing when I was very young. My credentials include a series of now-torn-up short stories that I deemed too stupid for human eyes, moody poems about becoming a teenager and wanting to hang onto my youth that I wrote in junior high, half of a time-travel novel entitled Werp that, at the time, I believed was literary gold, pretentiously verbose school essays, and one entire journal that I successfully filled with dramatic ramblings throughout my teens. I’m amazed by the capacity of words, specifically their capability to leave me a sobbing mess at two in the morning (Suzanne Collins, I’m looking at you) or inflate my heart with a first love that I’ve never experienced. I believe that storytelling is an essential part of human nature, whether we realize it or not. It is at the heart of everything, all the way back to hieroglyphs on cave walls. I believe in writing, and the stories that come from the craft. I want to share my stories, and connected with others’ stories. I want to explore the worlds inside my head and always have characters to fall in love with.

Praise for Bewilderments of the Eyes:
"Sopko’s ability to convey both sides of the story transforms Bewilderments of the Eyes into an important novel that should be read by people dealing with depression, whether they are sufferers or know someone who is."

“I have never read a more vivid description of mental illness, even while Quinn is struggling to find the words. I see this book as having the potential to be a game changer for teens with mental illness.”

The tone matches with the cover: Softness

The one thing I really enjoyed about this book was the telling of permanent love. Yes, heartbreak happened and we move on, grow, and strengthen ourselves, but sometimes, love takes you off your feet. You break the "I'm not going to do this ever again," and let it see where it takes you. Surprisingly enough, you end up seeing the future. I love it so much because I have my permanent love. I broke those vows, saw the past erased quickly, and saw a future. Blown away. This book captures that. I don't think we see that captured often as it is not a popular trope. Thank you for writing this.

I was really hoping that I would like this collection of poetry but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. I read this two times like I usually end up doing with poetry because the first time through I usually have a hard time connecting with it.

After reading through it the second time I still didn’t connect with it at all. I honestly don’t know what it was about it that made me not like it but I just couldn’t get into it at all. There was a poem or two that I did like but other than that nothing.

I was really surprised that I didn’t like it considering that it’s about love. You know my favorite thing ever.

Theresa Sopko's Cold Sober is a collection of poetry that revolves around that theme we all know so well when it comes to poets and when it comes to life in general. Love. These are NOT the trite and rhyming sort of poems that make us cringe inwardly and grate our teeth. These are the gems of a real relationship, the beginning of it and continued progression of it. A mixture of long, short, and one-line poetry that allows the reader the opportunity to have a sampling of all forms. The author says a lot in the short amount of time that it takes to read Cold Sober which, as a society that seems to be without enough hours in a day, is a positive that can be appreciated by all.

I've been "in" Theresa Sopko's poems. It's been years since I've been there, but I can readily see and feel everything she is describing again. It is as though I were stepping into a time machine to a better place, where my body felt more like a body, than just a lump sitting in a chair, working and living. If you happen to be experiencing a kind of love drought, this book will remind you of those feelings you once possessed. She is able to instill in the reader a very helpful youth elixir that some of us need from time to time. Her words are descriptive and, though they don't rhyme, have that aura of a perfect poetic rhythm, that could beat a rhyme with one hand tied behind its back. I highly recommend this book; if you are in or out of love, you won't want to miss the chance to read it.

i did not want cold sober to end. it was like reading into my own little mind. i highlighted and saved so many parts, which i usually don't do with kindle books. every part resonated. i felt it all. there was love and self- love, there was the dreamy state of mind and the soft and slow dance you step into, late at night. i am beyond in love. i'm so glad i get to keep this book in my life. so looking forward to grabbing the physical copy. a masterpiece of poetry. many loving vibes to theresa sopko for blessing us with this sweet collection!

I found a lot of pieces in this collection to be relatable to my life, which I enjoy in poetry. I think is a very strong collection and I will be revisiting it soon!

Thank you to the author, Theresa Sopko, for my review copy of Cold Sober to read and review!

Cold Sober is a beautiful poetry collection about love and everything related to it from beginning to end. I really love that we were taken on a journey in this collection and how it really came full circle with the last poem referring back to the first one in a really beautiful way. The poetry collection Cold Sober is filled with imagery that is clear and to the point and I think if you’re someone who likes simpler poetry this collection is really recommended. There were several poems that spoke to me, but two of my favorites are PET PEEVE and IN TONGUES. However, there were truly a lot of gems in this collection.

PET PEEVE

I am wary of the
Strings attached to kindness.

The last thing I want is to be
Indebted to a person, stuck in a magic lamp
Until I've given the perceived equivalence

No one's going to wish your freedom
So don't put it into another's hands.

and

IN TONGUES

Our love language is sarcasm.

The more poetry I read the more I enjoy the wide range of different poems and poetry collections that exist. Cold Sober is about love, the feeling of expectations in the beginning of a relationship, and intimacy. The purest form of love, where everything is electric even when two people are barely touching each other. I really appreciated that. If you want to read about love, Cold Sober is an excellent choice.

Falling in love for the first time is something that everyone goes through and can relate to and this book tells the journey in such an authentic way. My favorite poem was The Biggest Threat. I'd recommend.
