This was aggravatingly long and somehow completely worth it. Is it a great work of literature? I don’t know. Is it a great Harry Potter fanfic? Hell yes. Am I embarrassed by how much I love it? Kinda.
Ugh this was such a good book but the ending irked me so much. I felt like we didn’t get to see them have the happy ending they deserved. Even though they technically got it I would have liked to have seen more of it.
My first Snape/Hermione paring, and I was hesitant at first, but after seeing so many recommending it I couldn’t not read it. And boy am I glad I decided to give it a chance! I was hooked after a few chapters, and have been reading every available houre for the last three days haha. The plot even outshone canon on multiple occasions, that saying a lot. It plays out during the 6th and 7th book, from Hermiones and Snapes perspective of the war. The writing is beautiful and so well thought out. Will definitely reread at some point.
I loved the concept of Hermione and Snape being spies together during 6th and 7th year. It was great to see how this changed the horcrux hunt. BUT, there was not a reasonable explanation for why they had to get married. She could have vouched for him after the war even if she wasn't his wife. I also didn't like how Snape's whole character/personality changed after the war. The last 20% of their relationship was so awkward and uncomfortable compared to their "us against the world" vibe eariler in the book.
it's so good. she wrote this so well, I feel like it could have actually been a part of the cannon. like a book to fill in gaps and alternate endings. I understand people's complaint about the ending not being what they thought it should be but I also understand the ending she wrote.
Was a bit disappointed in the last few chapters, -- I do so dislike a cold feet treatment, it felt really jarring after everything they went through together.
