We all know the feeling. What starts as an insignificant little niggle, gently hinting at a kind of food, grows into a demanding craving. The kind that drags you out of bed in the middle of the night on a search for cheese, or causes you to break away from your desk in a desperate hunt for chocolate. Crave is the second book from Sunday Times bestselling author and Great British Bake Off contestant, Martha Collison. Using brilliant food science and delicious flavour combinations, she provides go-to recipes incorporating 8 of those things we so often hanker citrus, fruit, nut, spice, chocolate, caramel, cheese – and alcohol! There are ‘Instant’ recipes such as Lemon Cheesecake Pots – your super quick treats to be rustled up in next to no time. There are ‘Soon’ recipes that are ready to snaffle in under an hour, like Chilli Chocolate Churros. And you’ll find ‘Worth the Wait’ recipes, too. Think Olive & Preserved Lemon Focaccia and Caramelised White Chocolate Cake – a collection of bakes where patience yields intense flavours and sumptuous textures. Creative, inspiring and imaginative, these are the recipes you just have to have.
YES!! Martha was always my favorite contestant. This is her second cookbook and it's my favorite of the two. She divides her recipes into different cravings....citrus, berries, chocolate, booze, etc...and then subdivides them into "instant" , "soon" (under an hour), and "worth the wait". These recipes are all "fancy" ones, but they really are simple to figure out.
maybe it was the cheese and marmite sausage rolls and the orange pistachio and pmegranate cakes that didn't appeal to me
if she can do a cherry cheesecake flavoured brownie that is successful
i'm definately willing to accept her mutation of brandy snaps that add limoncello
[butter - brown sugar - golden syrup] [lemon zest - lemon juice - flour] [limoncello liqueur - double cream - sugar]
but from the reviews people really like the
Gin and Tonic Lime Pie Lemon and Poppyseed Pancakes Mississippi Mud Pie
Cherry Cheesecake Brownies Espresso Martini Cheesecake
---
she does some inventively slightly offbeat bizarro things like
Cherry and Marzipan Pie Pisco Sour Angel Food Cake Irish Cream Pretzel Cake
Baked Epoisses Fondue with Prosciutto (half-French, half-Italian, Ham and Cheese Fondue) Burnt Caramel Banana Bread (this could take things out of mediocrity) Chocolate Crackle Cookies
Chili and Garlic Flatbread Smoked Cheddar Welsh Rarebit Pecan Praline Brownies
Carmelized White Chocolate Cake Earl Grey, Caramel and Chocolae Loaf Cake Raspberry Crepe Cake (talk about unusual!)
Carmelized Marmalade French Toast Cherry Kirsh Souffles Gouda and Smoked Paprika Pretzels
Lacy Pancakes with Raspberry Sauce Coconut Custard Tart with Carmelized Pineapple (another innovation) Mai Tai Rum Babas (amaretto, rum, orange)
Lemon and Lime Battenberg (a cake that is almost 7UP-like in flavor) Spiced Milk and Honey Cake Blackcurrant and Peanut Macaroons
Mini Pork and Stilton Pies Mini Doughnut Muffins (if you don't like muffins, this might be acceptable) Triple Chocolate Eclairs
---
I think ther is a lot of interesting things hidden within this one
Love the unusual layout of this little cookbook - chapters are divided by a main ingredient/taste, what you might "crave" at any given time -> Citrus, Fruit, Nut, Spice, Chocolate, Caramel, Cheese, Alcohol.
Recipes itself sound quite easy to make and there's a statement at the very beginning that they take less than 20 minutes to make, less than an hour to create from start to finish.
Light and effortless writing, positive "atmosphere" of the book, accompanied by great photos - all make this a great addition to my cook book collection. Simply - can't wait to start baking!
This is a great baking book, so many appealing recipes.
So far I've made the Gin and Tonic Lime Pie, Lemon and Poppyseed Pancakes, Mississippi Mud Pie, Cherry Cheesecake Brownies and Espresso Martini Cheesecake and they've all been hits.
Martha's recipes are easy to follow, interesting and crowd pleasing.
