Only one thing can keep Ashton safe from the supernatural predators who made the world into their depraved, twisted playground after the Takeover--but it's the one thing that would steal the last remnants of his freedom. At every turn, society confronts Reese and Ashton with the way humans are treated as mere playthings to be used and discarded. When they realize their own desires and pride have no place in the status quo, Ashton and his werewolf lover understand they'll have to engage in the deadly games played by those in charge if they want to make a difference.

But Reese isn't a diplomat, and Ash is only human. Together, they must decide if they're willing to work with the devil they know in what might change everything or rely on their consciences in a world that has no place for kindness or honor... and if they're ready to sacrifice everything along the way.

Temper was revised on 3/30/2017. The graphic scenes have been toned down, but they may still be triggering for some readers.)

###

Now that supernatural beings have seized control of the world, life has become a struggle for the humans who once held power. Witches, vampires, and werewolves determine the fate of every single human, but their moral compasses have long since been shattered. Rebels, free humans, and slaves all share dreams of hope, mercy, love, and more. But with their fate so uncertain, survival isn't enough... and they may have to sacrifice what is nearest and dearest to them if they want to change their lives.

Bought, Ravel, and Recoil feature different characters whose lives begin to come together in Owned and Temper.

R. Phoenix

R. Phoenix has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes that love can corrupt and power can redeem. Her muse is a sadomasochistic slave driver who thinks it's terribly amusing to give her the best ideas when she just got comfortable and warm in bed, and she passes on that torture to her readers. She also tries entirely too hard to be funny, and she mercilessly inflicts her terrible sense of humor upon anyone who speaks to her. She'd love it if you'd say hello!

adventurous challenging dark emotional sad tense medium-paced
Plot- or character-driven? A mix
Loveable characters? Yes
4.5

We're diving deeper and deeper into the dark depraved and cruel world of Fate of the Fallen.

This is more a Dark Fantasy Tragedy but I'm still so in love with the whole world, their characters and the concepts.
My heart shattered a few times on the road. But that's what I signed up for.

Author Info:
Dark. Non-graphic gang rape, noncon. The characters from Bought, Ravel, and Recoil continue to come together.

Fate of the Fallen Full 7book Series:
IF you want to read a dark fantasy saga-ish dystopian world which follows a multi POV, multiple pairings (which might not all get an hea!!).
It's totally worth to dive into the World of "Fate of the Fallen".
The whole Series caught me by surprise. I couldn't stop listening. I was so so so hooked! I was so enamored with the whole concept, the alliances, the connections between the different MCs and how the whole Main Plot turned out in the end.
There were bittersweet, melancholic, agonizing moments and I suffered a bit with my favorites. NGL this Saga can be disturbing, traumatizing and cause distress.
This is a dark dystopian world, with almost no humanity left. Bad things happened and bad things will happen, and our "heroes", "anti-heroes" and "villains" won't survive unscathed.
I try to find a good comparison, but I'm literally trying to write a decent review for the full 7book series since I finished it and fail.
I know that it's a 100% re-read in the foreseeable future, until then I'm still reading the spin-offs.

Grrrr I wanted to truly clobber Ash. He is so dang stubborn. I love Reese and want more from both of them. Obviously the story is dark and not the easiest read. I did not feel as much as I did from the last book, but it is definitely good enough to keep reading.

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews with a copy provided by the author for an honest review.)

Wow, I say sometimes that I don’t know where to start on a review, and always mean it, but this one more so than others.

I considered making this installment in the author’s series a DNF (Did Not Finish) because I was so angry when I was reading it that I wanted to jump into the pages of the book and grab the MC, Ashton, and slap his stupid self until he smartened the hell up! And ask anyone, I’m not even a violent person.

But no, Ashton didn’t smarten up. After the events when we last met him and Reese, in the second installment of this series, Ravel, I thought that Ash had grown up and would act responsibly. But no, not Ash. Even though he lives in a world where humans are sex slaves, food, the prey in hunts, and can be killed in the street because any member of any of the supernatural species feels like it, he still thinks it is fine to go out for a walk…just because it is a sunny day…obviously his werewolf lover and protector, Reese, doesn’t know better than him.

I’m just going to say it…I despised Ash in this one. What kind of person does it make me that I read the brutal group rape scene that I posted a content warning about on the front of this review on the Love Bytes site, and my first thought was “there…are you happy now stupid’? Then of course I felt bad about even thinking those thoughts.

Bad Ms. Phoenix for making me think evil thoughts.

This is a very violent installment in a violent series. It should not be read as a standalone. The characters have been building through the series, and the entire story seems to be building towards some upcoming event.

In conclusion, this one was much more graphically violent than the previous installments. They were also graphically violent, but I believe each one is getting just a little more over the top in sadism. I’m not sure I personally even liked this book, but I’m going to rate it a 4.0, which means I’m recommending it. Pay attention though…I’m only recommending it for a very limited market. If you are a fan of the very, very dark, with torture, rape, murder, and graphic violence, it would be for you. Otherwise, heed the author’s warning and my personal warning and move along.

As for me? I’m off to lick my wounds from this one. Can anyone say light and fluffy? That’s what my next read has to be, so that I can get this one out of my mind!

Seriously…great job Ms. Phoenix. You rattled me a little on this one.

I love Ashton, he's brash and sarcastic and even with how he lived since he ended on the bottom of the food chain, he's a love monkey.

But in this book he annoyed the living hell out of me. So stubborn about the mark, clinging to the thought of a freedom he haven't had for ten years.

When he is taken he still believes Reece will save him, his every thought on that. And even how much he didn't want to be own, the words leaving his lips with ease is that he belongs to Reece.

This showed just how much Reece was willing to do for his human, stepping up to the role he never wanted and risking punishment to revenge the broken Ashton.
The desperation and heartache in it is thick in the air, and the writer let me feel all of it.

I found it a bit difficult to keep up with how much time had passed a few times during this book, but overall it was a good read.

Great series. Heed the dark content warnings.

This series just keeps getting better each book.

I’m well aware you’re not meant to despise the victim. Ash’s behaviour, his childish wish for freedom in a very harsh cruel world — something was going to give eventually.

“He should have been safe, but monsters dwelled behind the carefully manicured lawns and well-kept houses.”

Reese, absolutely adore him. The strength in this ‘wolf, his ability to protect, nurture and stand up for those needing his protection.

Jace and Elias are part of the tightly woven web again. I cringe with the ongoing situation.

Absolutely loving binge reading this series again. Ms. Phoenix executes her craft beautifully each time.

Read the content warnings. I truly love how dark and well thought out this is. The paranormal aspect might make it an easier read for someone with triggers.

Excellent

Reece taking over his pack has been a long time in coming, and I loved that he didn't have any compunction against taking Patrick out as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I do have to wonder how Scott and Mays think that they will even have any kind of a future after what they did to Ashton.

Temper is the fifth book in The Fate of the Fallen series by R Phoenix. The story is dark, twisted, violent and haunting... it tests your limits of how much inhumanity you can deal with. It makes you uncomfortable but yet unable to look away, the need to see what happens next alive and well. These characters have clawed their way into your soul and their grin strengthens with each book

It just keeps getting worse!

These books are both enthralling and horrifying how people mean so little to the supernatural element it makes you hope there's not creatures out there like this!

Series is getting intense, the things that happened to Ashton will set off triggers so tread carefully. Reese is fantastic at how he took charge and handled the situation. I need the next book.

It’s not surprising that as SOON as this book was released I HAD to read it. Temper by R. Phoenix did not disappoint. She weaved a beautifully dark story that seems to have targeted the Ravel fans and their insistence that Ravel was “sweet” and “romantical”. This is a continuation of Reese and Ashton’s story and it. Will. Blow. Your. Mind!

I knew authors secretly came up with ideas on how to squeeze every bit of agony from their readers. Pretty sure they bathe in our tears as well…just sayin’. R. Phoenix did just that. Her big middle finger directed at the readers who labeled Ravel book two of the Ripples in the Status Quo series as sweet and lighthearted was turned into another dark twisted addition. They did not go unscathed.

Reese is still stoic and exasperated by the annoyingly stubborn Ash. He argues repeatedly with Ash about getting the mark so he can protect Ash from the other Sups out there, but doe Ash listen? Oh no. Course not, cause did I mention Ash is a stubborn little sh*t? Well he REALLY is. Though Reese knows what can happen to Ash without the mark he still lets Ash continue to be stubborn until his worst fears are realized. Thanks to Ash’s stubbornness, Reese’s whole world is changed and now he has to do things he never thought he would EVER do. Way to go Ash. Jerk.

So I loved and adored Ashton in Ravel. He was snarky and sarcastic and stood his ground. He did do something supremely stupid but I was able to overlook it. However, in Temper, I cannot. Arguing about getting the mark with Reese was stupid. Refusing to get Reese’s mark on him was arrogant and incredibly dumb. I know that he felt like he would be losing his freedom but did he ever really even HAVE any freedom to begin with? Unfortunately, he learned his lesson the extremely hard way. And though I feel like I should feel sorry for him, I really have very little sympathy for an idiot who thought he didn’t need the mark.

So with this new installment of the Ripples in the Status Quo series there really was no way I couldn’t give this one a 5 star review. The world building is extraordinary, the characters are written so well you can’t help but to love them or despise them and with the addition of older characters being weaved into the book, it feels like everything in the RISQ world is coming together for some kind of epic blow up. I can not wait for the next book to see who is featured in the story and what R. Phoenix will delightfully put them through!

The more I keep reading from this series, the more I keep falling in love with it. I just loved it. This book was one of my favorites, perhaps my number two, being the number one the first one because it captivated me enough to keep me reading the next in the series and because it put on the spotlight the amazing character Elias.

This book was really great, I liked it from the beginning. It was great to see where Ash and Resse’s relationship stand at this point, I loved the interactions between them. The discussions and the romantic moments they shared were beautiful. It was bittersweet to see the things they had to struggle with, but I had a great time reading about it. I think some reader might not enjoyed as much as I did because it had some very violent moments that might be consider before reading.

The plot was nice, I didn’t like too much where the story went, especially in the last pages, maybe because of what it might meant in the future, but it was definitely interesting and probably most readers will be ok with it.

I really had a good time reading this book, I did missed Khaz but this time around I got to care so much more about Resse and Ashton that I did in the previous books. The only issue I have about the book was that I would like more Elias on it. I was very happy with what I got, but I feel like I can never have enough of that character, there is something about him that just make me smile each time he’s on page. I hope I get more of him in the next one, but I still loved this one very much.

Reveiwed for The Dark Arts MM Erotica

Temper was full of action and the type of absolute craziness that I really love. Though I enjoyed revisiting Ash and Reece, I was a bit dismayed by the extremely brutal way the book begins with Ash paying the price for his ignorance/independence. However, I think the pain he suffers was necessary way for him to wake up and realize the danger of their situation. Throughout the book there are appearances of the other characters from the previous books in the series. I really liked this since the other books read like stand-alones and this book seemed to be where their worlds collided. There were also some new and extremely intriguing characters as well as a deeper look into Elias’s motives and history. I really look forward to seeing where Elias goes with his plotting, and what kind of messed up torture schemes he has stashed away for later.

Despite all the violence and humiliation the characters have to endure, I really loved that Ash and Reece achieve a victory in the end. Overall, the book was a win for me, and I’m very curious to know what happens next in this series. I recommend this series to anyone who likes MM Dark Erotica, Dark Fantasy, and MM Romance.

I bet R. Phoenix cackled as she wrote this...and baths in my tears too

Awaiting this book to be written was AGONY! I couldn't wait to sink my eyeballs in this and see what was next for all our favorite characters! This book did NOT disappoint! Not only did we get to see what was going on with Reese and Ashton, we also got a drop in appearance by Khaz and Noah! Yay! Though to be honest they're appearance was at a very, er, horrid time for Ash, it was welcome i'm sure because it ultimately lead to Ash's saving. Yes, he was in a bad situation, thanks to his stubbornness the little jerk, but Reese as always was there for him.Though, honestly, I don''t get why Reese wants to do all this crap for Ash when Ash acts like he does. *shakes fist at R. Phoenix* YOU DO THIS TO ME WITH EVERY BOOK! I want to both murder and cuddle these characters sometimes! The whole RISQ world is phenomenal and I want MORE!

This one broke my heart.....We have my favourite pairing...Reese and Ashton......Ash goes through hell in this one just because he won't have the slaves mark on him...He goes for a walk and ends up in Mays' hands...Him and four of his friends abuse Ash so badly and he is totally traumatised by what happens to him.....I don't know how he managed to cope through the hell he went through till Reese finds him.....Maybe Ash will listen in future...A great addition to the series but heart breaking to read x

***2016 has been a very unstable year. Not only have I lost favourite role models in droves, I have been into dark places more times than I could count. Yes, I experienced highlights as well but the darkness has had a big impact this year and the only way to keep it at bay was reading, mass reading, back to back books with no stopping and no reviewing. I do apologize to all the writers that I won’t be able to review their books yet but I will get to it. Promise!***

I always enjoy Reese and Ashton, although at times this book was difficult to read. The supernaturals have never been more dark and depraved than they are in this installment, so heed warnings. Political machinations abound, but underneath there's enough love between Reese and Ashton to satisfy this reader. As always, Phoenix's writing is flawless. Disturbing, dark erotica at its best.
