I bought this book in UK for my son, but read it too ! Very easy to read. A good book for teenagers but for adults too. For he ones lacking in confidence. Some sheets just like "10 things to remember" after each chapter help to find if you are more confident after reading and exploring. Nice to do that with your kids. In fact, i read it, my son read it and then we read it again together. Some exercises are very funny to do.
I won a copy of "Be More Confident" in a Goodreads Giveaway.
It is obviously a self-help/teach yourself book so there are a lot of activities and exercises to do which some readers may find off-putting. These are mostly relatively fun and easy to do however so should at least be attempted. Because of all these exercises it is not exactly a quick read but then becoming more confident is not exactly going to be a quick fix either!
One thing I should mention is that it also advocates a self-hypnosis technique quite a lot which was one thing that I did find difficult and frustrating and when I attempted I got confused more than anything so unfortunately did not receive any benefit from this element of the book.
My edition had a newly added chapter on 'Social Media' as well as boxes 'Specially for women'. Some readers might find these a little sexist but women are generally less confident than men and as I woman I did actually find them insightful/helpful. I think the 'Social Media' chapter was actually really relevant and it definitely encouraged me to make some changes with regards to the way I use social platforms like Facebook etc.
I also liked a lot of the quotes included at the start of each chapter...
"Attitudes are more important than facts" - Dr. Karl Menninger (1893-1990), American psychiatrist.
"The only way to have a friend is to be one" - Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-82), American Poet.
It also references quite a lot of other useful links and resources at the end as well as other self-help books the reader may find useful. Most of these are at the back but they do occasionally occur within the text which can be slightly distracting. Also at one point on page. 50 the author plugs his other book "Teach Yourself how to be Happier" which I thought was a bit cheeky, but also undoubtedly a very confident move!
Each chapter also ends with helpful things like lists of ten things to remember and also a checklist of questions to establish how confident you are feeling now (although if you do not answer a certain amount positively it will encourage you to re-read the chapter rather than continuing on with the book).
Unfortunately in my edition I did also come across one typo (on page 243 it says "If a woman asks a man to do something now there is a risk that he will instinctively puts off doing it" - I think it should read 'put off').
Overall a useful book, I found it did help me boost my confidence in a few areas and I think I would certainly encourage other people to read it. In fact I think my partner intends to borrow it now that I am done.
You can be confident without money or good looks or high intelligence..... because there's no law that says you have to conduct yourself as an inferior being if you are not rich or intelligent or beautiful....you don't need an external justification to have a strong sense of self-worth. This book is for you if you lack confidence In general or if you find it hard to take charge of other people. Be more confident by Paul Jenner is good book to help you build your confidence by following practical cognitive Therapy techniques .
I found this book more interesting for the psychology elements rather than the practical elements - I found the practical parts boring and the psychological elements the most interesting to learn - it made me more interested to learn about the psychology of the human brain
